Open Your Psychic Ability with Lisa Campion
08/20/2023
Open Your Psychic Ability with Lisa Campion
Does the idea of a psychic experience scare you? Did you experience a sudden psychic opening? Author, psychic counselor, and reiki master teacher, Lisa Campion, joins me to talk about using your discernment when you open your psychic abilities and how it can happen, the clairsenses, the role of the pineal gland, negative entities, navigating different dimensional planes of reality, and more. Lisa brings a knowledgeable and grounded perspective to a topic that can seem elusive and that many people are unknowingly led astray on. Topics We Discuss: [1:00] Opening psychic abilities with mental health struggles. Ground yourself and focus on your mental health first, because psychic opening can be destabilizing. Learning how to manage and turn off your gifts can help you ground. Be mindful, get a teacher, and go slowly. Don’t follow social media trends. [3:43] Ways of opening psychically. Some people have gradual strengthening of their gifts, many undergo very sudden and disorienting awakenings. NDEs, loss of a loved one, spiritual development paths, psychedelic journeys, and sudden or tragic changes can all cause sudden openings. [6:01] What is a sudden psychic opening like? It depends what psychic senses a person already has open. Whichever ones suddenly come online are where someone will start perceiving things they weren’t previously. Visual psychics are the most rare. [7:55] The clairsenses. Clairsomatic is feelings in the body, clairsentience is feeling, claircognizance is knowing - hunches, nudges- these are the basis of our intuition. Lisa believes the heart is also psychic and can see clearly into our relationships. Clairaudience is hearing the little voice in your head. Clairgustance (taste) and clairalience (smell) typically show when being contacted by a loved one. Clairvoyance is seeing things in our minds eye or sometimes seeing actual things. Write down what you notice. [15:30] Why are psychics trending right now? Lisa thinks there are generally more psychic people than before, there are more resources for opening up nowadays - yoga, reiki, and meditation are very accessible now- paranormal content is also everywhere. [18:34] The pineal gland & psychic abilities. It has optical nerves running to it and it secretes DMT. Meditations, breathing exercises, minimizing certain chemicals like fluoride, and using certain sound frequencies can help open and activate your pineal gland. [22:57] Spirit guides & differentiating them. Everyone has a team, and their guides all play different roles. Guides might be different kinds of beings. Beloved ancestors are often like cheerleaders and are less directive. Guides like angels and ascended masters often work to help us achieve grow. We have to ask for assistance, but they can’t interfere with anyone’s free will and they won’t necessarily stop us from facing consequences of our actions. [28:49] Negative entities & unsafe psychic practices. Negative entities feel creepy and scary because we know they’re not good. We are all capable of sensing whether something is good, neutral, or bad. Ouija boards are direct communication tools and portals to lower astral realms. [32:26] Planes of reality. The astral realm is directly “next” to ours and it is what we typically access when we first open up psychically. There are a few levels to it. The “middle” level is where stuck spirits of the dead are. The “upper” level is where people mostly astral travel to when dreaming. There are realms beyond those up to heaven, God, and more. There are “sideways” worlds of the dead and fairies. Sometimes these dimensions or realms bleed through. *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. Twin Connections with Tasha Cram

Twin Connections with Tasha Cram
What makes the twin connection so special and different from other relationships? Author, twin loss advocate, and twinless twin herself, Tasha Cram, joins me to dive deep into the twin dynamic. We talk about Tasha’s story of loss as a child, twin development, synchronization between twins, the twin connection after one in the pair leaves Earth, and so much more. Even if you’re a “singleton” (non-twin), this episode is fascinating and teaches us more about just how interconnected humans are with each other. Topics We Discuss: [1:30] Tasha’s story of twin loss. Her twin died just a few weeks before they turned 4 years old. She was so young that she didn’t fully comprehend the loss and grief. It took many years and a health scare for her to understand change was needed. She began learning about complicated grief and the identity crisis twins experience. [5:11] Twin development & relationship. Twins synchronize with each other the way mothers and fetuses do. Many believe that the twin relationship dies when one of the original pair dies, but twinless twins can synchronize with other single twins. [8:03] What is synchronization? The physiological syncing between other single twins. Mannerisms, voice inflections, etc are picked up on very quickly between them. [10:55] Twin brains and intuition. Their intuition is so strong because they shared a womb-space. Babies are so connected with their mothers because they gestate within their mothers. The body connects in a different way because they are hardwired together. [13:02] Twin loss vs other loss. Twins share an identity, unlike singleton siblings, so they experience not just grief, but a total identity crisis without their counterpart. [16:30] Disappearing twins in utero. The one who is born is still wired like a twin, but they never got to have the experience of living with a twin. They often still feel like something is missing until they sync with another twin that they meet. They can tap into others’ experiences by hearing stories from other twins about their experiences. [22:03] Twin superpowers. Besides strong intuition, they can read and feel energy very well. Their powers don’t go away once their twin dies. Once their twin is gone, they have to re-discover themselves as a twin. It’s a very complicated grief process. [26:37] Experiences Tasha had with her late twin. Right after her twin Tonya passed, Tasha saw Tonya’s soul. Tasha started having dreams of her twin once she began processing her grief as an adult. She gets downloads from her twin when she takes the time to intentionally connect with her. [31:06] Tasha’s twin-centered projects. Twinful, twin-loss support group, her journey of a thousand hugs. After someone in her twinless twin support group committed suicide, Tasha felt the need to do more for the community. She also makes and send tie-blankets to twinless twins around the world. *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. Lessons from Tibetan Wisdom with Mordy Levine and Lama Lhanang
08/06/2023
Lessons from Tibetan Wisdom with Mordy Levine and Lama Lhanang
What lessons could a centuries-old Tibetan book hold about living life in the modern era? Turns out, some really important ones. President of the Jigme Lingpa Center and creator of the Meditation Pro Series, Mordy Levine & Vajrayana Buddhist teacher and director of the Jigme Lingpa Center, Lama Lhanang Rinpoche, join me in this episode to share lessons from the Tibetan Book of the Dead. This text is full of wisdom and guidance for masters to walk people through life, death, and rebirth. Listen in to hear what Tibetan wisdom has to say about all things karma - working on your karma in preparation for dying, creating karma for yourself, how it manifests in your next life, and more! Topics We Discuss: [1:02] Handling difficult situations. Everything is impermanent, good and bad. Living in the moment and remembering the impermanence of everything will bolster your resilience. [3:03] What is the Tibetan Book of the Dead? A Buddhist book written in the 8th century. It was originally only taught to advanced practitioners. It was translated (not very well) to English about 100 years ago and is very dense with teachings. It is hard to understand if you don’t have a deep understanding of Tibetan Buddhism. The core of the book is for practitioners to be able to lead their students through the dying process and afterlife for them to have an auspicious rebirth. [4:54] Do we have to be actively dying to use this wisdom? Preparing now is the best way because death can come at any time. Focus on the present. [7:43] Working on your karma in preparation for death. Learn to enjoy the present moment every day instead of wanting for more to die in peace. You can work on your karma to change it in this life. We have to start with our minds, speech, and actions. [15:08] When are we creating karma for ourselves? In moments when we want to react in a negative or harmful way toward others, we have a choice. If someone yells at you, you can either yell at them or respond with compassion. Our thoughts can create negative karma for us. Try reframing your thoughts. [26:37] How does karma manifest in our next life? The way you are today affects who you are tomorrow. The things on your heart when you die will carry over to the afterlife and to your next life. [28:50] Choosing your next life. Anyone can choose their path. Some masters leave a letter to their students telling them how and who they’ll be reborn as so they can be found and brought back to the monastery to continue their studies. Regular people can choose to make better choices and create good karma going forward in life. [40:39] How to know a reborn master is actually that same soul? Many children remember their past lives. High lamas can sometimes recognize each other and will do tests with objects of the deceased master to confirm identities. Some institutions carry out research on children and past lives. [45:21] The Bardos. These are transitional dreamlike states between birth, death, and rebirth. A good lama can walk your consciousness through these. If you start working on your karma now, you can also go through it on your own without getting distracted by distortions of your mind and karma. Knowing how to walk through it is like lucid dreaming - you’re aware of what’s happening. [47:52] How does the son of a Jewish rabbi turn into a Buddhist? Mordy found out as a teen that his father, a rabbi, had a Ph.D. studying death, dying, and mourning. He shared this interest with his father and began reading about NDEs and past lives until he knew that he couldn’t deny the existence of the afterlife and reincarnation. Eventually, his Orthodox Jewish mother asked him to teach her how to meditate when she was dying. [52:13] “How we live is how we die.” Living in the present moment so we can shape our realities is the most important thing we can do for ourselves. Prioritizing peace and joy now sets us up to experience more of that in our current life, the afterlife, and beyond. *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. My Father's Bucket List with Laura Carney
07/30/2023
My Father's Bucket List with Laura Carney
Is there ever a case where living vicariously through your children is good for them? For today’s guest, Laura Carney, living out her dad’s dreams changed her life. Her dad passed away before he could complete his own bucket list, so she completed it for him. She’s a writer and copy editor for publications like The Washington Post, People, GQ, the Associated Press, Good Housekeeping, and more. Listen in to hear beautiful stories full of synchronicities and serendipitous moments that aided Laura in completing the list and the lessons she learned along the way. Topics We Discuss: [0:48] What happened to Laura’s father? He was killed by a distracted driver on their phone when Laura was 25. She found his bucket list 13 years later. [2:11] How finding the list affected Laura’s grief. Before finding the list, Laura equated grief with depressive episodes as she’d grown up with depression and ADHD. The list helped her reframe her dad’s death and process the trauma and pain of losing him. [4:50] Completing the list. Out of 60 items, her dad had only successfully completed 5 of them. When she found it, she felt spiritually called to complete it and took it as literally as possible. She started with running items since she was a runner and would try to combine them as much as possible. It took her 6 years to complete and taught her how to fail. [12:23] Synchronicities lead to talking with the President. A sequence of synchronistic events begins with being tipped off about a President who still teaches Sunday school most weeks. Then happening to meet one of this President’s biographers the night before and running into him again leading up to her being able to exchange some words with this President. This type of sequence kept happening over and over and it was undeniable to Laura and the people around her that there was some kind of intervention helping to make this happen. Laura felt like she and her dad worked together. [18:24] List items & lessons along the way. Corresponding with the Pope and owning a large house and land and a tennis court. Laura marked off some of the items in a more poetic way and with many of them realized that it was less important to do specific items in a certain way, and more important to focus on the feelings to be achieved and the growth it pushed her towards. [23:36] Recording music & reliving childhood. Laura’s dad was a singer and doing this was more emotionally hard because she sang songs her dad used to sing to her and her brother. Much of the list gave her a way to re-experience her dad’s energy through others, and for this one, she ended up alone. [25:23] Singing at Laura’s wedding & dancing at his grandchildren’s wedding. Laura married her husband before they found the list. They honored him at the wedding by opening a bottle of 1974 Robert Mondavi cabernet he’d set aside 38 years before the day. Laura purchased a 2018 bottle of the same wine to set aside for her niece’s wedding. [27:43] Universal lessons from the list. Let go of what doesn’t matter, listen to your intuition, remember that being alive is a gift, stop caring how you measure up to other people, and give to others. *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. Messages from the Z's with Lee Harris

Messages from the Z's with Lee Harris
Can you imagine having a group of intergalactic, highly intelligent beings to talk to everyday? Globally-acclaimed energy intuitive, channeler, author, and musician, Lee Harris, joins me again today to talk about his guides, the Z’s, and what they have to say about things like raising consciousness, enlightenment, death and exit points, and developing your own channeling relationship. Topics We Discuss: [1:19] The rise in popularity of channeling/ Lee’s rise in popularity. Lee attributes his growth to an energy reading he did right after the world went into lockdown in 2020. He thinks people were looking for answers or some sort of comfort, and his energy update resonated with a lot of people. [3:23] Who are the Z’s & why are more people opening up? Lee began channeling this intergalactic group of beings before age 6 and then they left him until 23. More people are opening up because everyone’s consciousness and awareness are rising. More people are also just admitting to it since it’s become more popular and acceptable. Many of us are here to help change the oppressive systems in place on the planet. [6:50] What does “raising consciousness” mean? The Z’s describe it as becoming compassionate, kind, and inclusive more of the time than you used to be. Things seem darker now because there is light being shown on the darkness that was already there. Earth’s energies and crystal grids are becoming more activated. Right now we are grappling with the old structures that don’t want to die and the new energies coming in, we’re learning how to integrate technology into our lives, and people still need to participate in the change happening. [14:10] Enlightenment & areas of mastery. Enlightenment is not a place to be reached where nothing hard happens. The Z’s talk about it in terms of mastery. They say mastery in at least 8 different areas of life is required to reach enlightenment. [18:13] How Lee integrates his channeling. His books come through by someone else speaking with the Z’s through him. The same thing used to happen in his private sessions. He can hear what’s being said but doesn’t remember much of it and can’t process what’s being said. He doesn’t go back and listen to his channelings because he finds it jarring, but he has his own relationship with them. [23:26] Developing your own channeling relationship. Lee thinks everyone’s relationship with their guides is different. Anyone can develop a relationship, and Lee never thought it would happen to him. The easiest way to start is to write “What does my soul want to tell me today?” and spend a few minutes writing the answer. [25:32] What is Freedom Consciousness? Connection to the universe and recognizing that everything happening is bigger than what’s going on right in front of us, and that we are bigger than we think. It requires practice to master. [31:44] What are exit points? Points in time where our soul could’ve left our physical body. The Z’s say that our souls work with the souls of the people in our life to decide our time to go. If we were aware of exit points we would be more grateful for and appreciative of life. [36:24] Music for healing. During adolescence, we become very emotional and connected to music in a way that we aren’t when we’re older. It is a raw expression of emotion and creating music can help us connect with higher powers. [39:41] The Z’s effects on Lee. They’ve completely changed his worldview, increased his intuition, and opened up his heart and mind. When he channels, his body heats up and he gets dehydrated more easily. *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. Embracing Authenticity with Kristina Mand-Lakhiani

Embracing Authenticity with Kristina Mand-Lakhiani
Do you embrace every facet of your authentic self? What does authenticity really even mean? International speaker, entrepreneur, artist, philanthropist, mother, and cofounder of Mindvalley, Kristina Mand-Lakhiani, joins me to discuss her new book, “Becoming Flawesome” and how we can begin embracing authenticity. Listen in to hear where authenticity comes from and what it truly is, how we can remain authentic when different parts of our lives are clashing, how you can still experience imposter syndrome despite being authentic, and more! Topics We Discuss: [1:15] Kristina’s career path. When she married her former husband, she left behind her country and career to start Mindvalley from scratch with him. She wasn’t initially passionate about self-help, but grew to love it. Her new book, “Becoming Flawesome”, embodies the unconventional path she’s taken and diverges from many traditional structures of self-help novels. [5:08] Mistakes in the self-help industry. It’s often romanticized, surface-level, and dogmatic. The book isn’t meant to tear down the self-help industry, but she isn’t afraid to acknowledge where it sometimes comes up short. [6:34] Success vs happiness. Many people subconsciously associate being successful with being “good” and chase this to be liked thinking that will bring them happiness. Happiness is more abstract, success is more easily quantifiable. Hustle culture and the idea of flow are two sides of the same coin of productivity, which are tied to success. Kristina wants people to look past these two entirely and look at happiness. [13:13] Understanding authenticity. Authenticity is the result of your relationship with yourself. Many people try to put on a show for others, but tending to ourselves paves the way for us to feel strong in who we are. Our relationships with others can also help us come back into ourselves. [22:41] Are masks counter to authenticity? Masks are required for social interaction with the world, and are normal. They are separate from who you are and your relationship with yourself. The problem is overidentifying with one facet of ourself and disowning the rest of who we are which leads to distortion of our reality. [26:50] Balancing conflicting life roles. Maintaining integrity and aligned intentions helps you keep your center in moments when it can be hard to balance multiple roles. For example, when firing a friend. [29:58] Imposter syndrome & compassion. You can be authentic and believe you are worthless at the same time. Authenticity is not the cure for imposter syndrome, being kind to yourself is. Kindness with ourselves is easy when we’re doing well, but we need this compassion more when we are not doing well. Replace your judgment with curiosity. This is the therapeutic process. Hone in on the what and why. [36:00] Personal transformation. Truly changing requires applying knowledge and experience, as well as support. Kristina believes transformation is a trainable skill. What you focus on determines your reality, and honing what you focus in on can lead to more transformation. *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. Soul Searching with Bill Philipps
07/09/2023
Soul Searching with Bill Philipps
Have you started soul searching and connecting with other energies? Do you know how to protect yourself? Today we talk with medium Bill Philipps, whose life work is to help people deal with the grief of losing loved ones by bringing through validations, evidential information, and beautiful messages from Spirit to help them heal. Listen in to hear about how we are all connected energetically with each other, our deceased loved ones, and guides, how to protect yourself when opening up to the other side, and the importance of knowing your energy and committing to spiritual practices. Topics We Discuss: [1:35] The Spiritual Web. It’s a committee of passed loved ones, spirit guides, and ascended masters that we are connected to energetically. It’s subtle energy that requires deep presence and awareness to perceive. Once you know what your energy feels like, you can more easily discern when you’re dealing with other energy. [6:15] Different Types of Energies. When you tune into your psychic senses, you can notice different energies. Our spirit team is always leaving signs for us, and it’s up to us to notice it. [12:08] Negative Energies & Spiritual Protection. Dark spirits are manipulative, so they can be hard to discern. Bill noticed he would feel nauseous and heavy and hear a lot of derogatory language in his head when he connected with dark energies. Visualization and imagination are where your baseline of protection comes from. Imagine being surrounded by white light. [18:21] Intention-Setting & Mantras. Connecting with Spirit and working in the unseen realms requires accountability for your thoughts and feelings and your power to change your state. Starting your day with positive intentions makes it easier to go back to that state during the day. Mantras go hand-in-hand with intentions. [22:05] Noticing Spirit. Communication often comes during very human moments as reminders that we’re not alone and that there’s more to all of this. [24:21] Cord-Cutting vs Boundary-Setting. Energetic cords form between ourselves and people we interact with, and sometimes unpleasant or traumatic experiences. Cord-cutting requires you setting an intention to separate yourself from a person, but it’s something you have to repeat and solidify. You have to set a physical boundary along with cutting a cord. [28:53] Medium Readings & Spirit Guides. The messages in Bill’s readings apply in the future outside of the session, because it’s energy. Some deceased loved ones are guides, but not all guides are loved ones. [32:20] Messages from Bill’s New Book. You are so powerful and you are here to create your heaven on earth. There’s so much more to life than paying bills and dying. It’s about truly living life. [33:30] What Happens When We Transition? We evaluate our earthly experiences and what lessons we did or didn’t learn. We also create the experiences we wanted on earth or loved to do on earth, but maybe weren’t able to have or do. *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. Master Your Intuition with Laura Day
07/02/2023
Master Your Intuition with Laura Day
Do you struggle with understanding what intuition is and how to use it? Today we talk with New York Times bestselling author and intuitive for A-list stars and corporate executives, Laura Day. She has taught thousands of people and companies how to master their intuition in practical and verifiable ways. Listen in to hear what intuition is, how to master your intuition, the relationship between intuition and psychology, and how to use your intuition and mindfulness to create the life you want. Topics We Discuss: [2:29] Intuition is nonlocal perception, an extension of our senses. Everyone has access to it. It is useful, accurate, and actionable. Our thoughts are based on our habitual beliefs. Your intuition speaks at the same “level” as your thoughts and feelings, but we’ve been taught to ignore it. We must have an ego to channel our intuition into action. [14:53] Intuition vs being empathic. Empaths often lack boundaries and act as energy vampires. The most intuitive people have strong boundaries and are balanced. Empathy is an emotional state and highly emotional states and intuition can’t coexist. [17:18] Mediumship is not empathy, it is perceiving something by becoming it. Empaths often are mediums who aren’t able to get back to themselves and their mindfulness. Mindfulness is not a meditation, it is conscious awareness of where you’re at and how you feel. Your power is in the present moment. The most spiritual thing you can do is know yourself. [24:09] Intuition and psychology. Your pathology can be your potential, but you can’t see yourself as a victim. Intuition can you tell you what will happen and what to do, but therapy and psychological healing are needed to access it yourself and act upon intuition. Intuition doesn’t care how you feel. [29:30] Contracts. We need to let others go through certain things in their own time and process. If there is a pattern you’re struggling with, ask yourself where you first picked that up. You have to take the lessons from your experiences to dissolve contracts. [35:48] Changing outcomes. Most people don’t hear what they can’t emotionally process in a reading. It’s not good to know information if it won’t help you function. We all have a right to our mistakes, and changing “bad” outcomes is not always actually beneficial for our personal development. [41:22] Embodiment is the next step after mindfulness. It is allowing yourself to experience a reality that is possible, but not quite yet present. Manifestation is the action that goes into making the possibilities that you embody your reality. Becoming the person you need to be to have what you want is hard work. It’s an active choice. [52:48] Validating intuition. Document your intuitive hits and notice how they happen and where your biases are. Check in with your intellect and emotions when it comes to decision-making. Ask for another way if it’s something you know you should do but just can’t. [59:52] The first step to tapping in. You’re always tapped in, but you need to be clear about what you’re asking for and working towards. Dreams are tricky to identify what is intuitive or psychological processing. Sleepwork can be helpful, which is different. Where is your awareness when you wake up? *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. The Power of Play with Shirin Etessam
06/15/2023
The Power of Play with Shirin Etessam
When was the last time you took time out of your day to play? Today we talk with Shirin Etessam, an entrepreneur, seasoned media executive, and transformational speaker who recognized the power of play in a world full of rigid structures, schedules, and expectations. Listen in to hear how this high-level corporate employee and entrepreneur turned to spirituality, the power of play for your mind, spirit, and body, and the importance of play for children and adults. Topics We Discuss: [1:50] Shirin’s jump into spirituality. The end of a 22 year relationship made her realize that she felt empty inside despite having all of the material measures of success. [5:06] Half-assed spirituality. Going to a retreat once a year, going to a yoga class, or wearing particular jewelry isn’t going to bring about the lasting, integrated changes that a daily spiritual practice does. Practicing only when it’s convenient is a form of spiritual bypassing. [10:50] Redefining spirituality. Separating soul work and connecting with spirit. We have to do internal work to reconnect with our essence so we can follow our internal guidance. Play is an important part of this process. [17:34] Shirin’s process. It took her 6 years from the end of her relationship to drastically change her life and get to a spiritually healthy place. She lacked direction and didn’t really know where to look. Customizing one’s spiritual process and practice is important. [19:34] All about play. The most important thing is allowing ourselves the space to play. Shirin details some of the different play personality types as defined by Stuart Brown. Any activity that we do simply for the joy of doing it is play. It rewires our brains. [25:19] Play for children vs adults. Playing is a skill, and the school system does a poor job at supporting kids in creative, unstructured play. Because of this, kids grow up to become adults that don’t know how to play. The more adults who play, the more acceptable it will become. [29:33] How Shirin plays. She dances a lot and used to do random disco time for one of her teams to shift their energy when stressed. She says you have to figure out your personality type and incorporating that into your day. [31:55] Adult playmates. Having friends to play with always helps. Shirin has a friend that she will sometimes talk through imaginary scenarios with or who isn’t afraid to dance like a maniac at a party with her. [34:13] Play with your kids. Playing with your own children as an adult can help you unlock that side of yourself. Connecting to your children in that way is also great bonding time. [35:32] Play & executive functioning. Young children learn and develop through play, and especially getting to play on their own terms. They learn things like assigning roles, working in a team, navigating conflict, and so much more. Many parents are unintentionally robbing their children of this freedom. *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. Today we talk with Amanda Kloots, a ray of sunshine, former Broadway Dancer and Radio City Rockette, fitness instructor, and author who encourages people to live their lives to the fullest. Amanda’s late husband, Nick, died in 2020 from Covid and co-infections. Listen in to hear all about his death and legacy, as well as how she stayed positive in the face of death, and parenting after loss. Topics We Discuss: [2:30] Amanda’s grief and loss experience losing her husband. He got sick during the pandemic and then caught hospital infections that ultimately took over him 95 days later. [5:39] How Amanda’s positivity kept her going even when doctors told her on multiple occasions that her husband was going to die in an hour. [10:14] The power of love. Amanda would sing, dance, and encourage her husband whenever she was able to see him and she could tell it boosted his spirits. [12:54] Nick’s legacy. His story caught the world’s attention because he fought for so long to make sure Amanda and their son Elvis would be okay. Amanda and Elvis were able to move into a new home. She and Nick’s mom became very close, and Nick died a rock star like he always wanted to be. [15:52] Amanda’s family support. Her siblings, especially her brother, really stepped up to help her and take care of her and Elvis after Nick died. It impacted their familial relationships deeply. [19:10] Signs, synchronicities, Biblical ties, and beliefs. Milestones of his illness coincided with Biblical days like Easter weekend. Nick’s energy swept over Elvis on a few occasions. Amanda talks to him and dreams about him. Mediums have described Nick’s energy field to Amanda and it’s been the same as what she’s seen. [27:02] Parenting a toddler who lost a parent. Amanda tries to keep Nick present in their lives by talking about him with Elvis. Her new children’s book is a great tool to talk to kids about death and loss. She is sure that Elvis dreams about Nick and encourages others to go to sleep intending to see their loved one. [32:29] Amanda’s grief journey. Losing a spouse is a lifelong journey, especially when you are left to parent a child you once shared. Her philosophy has become to just do and go for things because you never know what could happen. [34:39] Nick’s song “Live Your Life”. Amanda helped him write the lyrics because he couldn’t figure it out on his own. It took on a whole new meaning after he died. *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. Finding the Words with Colin Campbell

Finding the Words with Colin Campbell
Has anyone in your life ever experienced a big loss? What did you say to them? Did you struggle to find the right words? Did you give them the space to speak about their loved one? Did you just give up and distance yourself from them? Today we talk with Colin Campbell, a writer and director for theater and film whose short film was nominated for an Academy Award. Colin and his wife Gail have experienced the deepest form of loss – the death of their children, Ruby and Hart. His new book, “Finding the Words”, explores his grief journey after their tragic deaths. Listen in to hear their story, how to even start coping with this kind of loss, the importance of community and rituals in grief, and why it’s so important to find the words to keep speaking about those who have passed. Topics We Discuss: [1:45] Amy’s experience with Colin’s work. Colin’s book brought her to tears in an airport despite her background working with grief. Many of us are afraid of pain and avoid it, although it is sometimes mixed with joy. [5:09] Colin’s late children, Ruby and Hart. They were kind, magnetic children - the lives of the party. Hart was a clown as Colin calls him and often embodied different “characters” when joking with his friends. Ruby was an artist, book lover, and advocate for others. [11:20] What happened to Ruby and Hart? Colin and his family were hit by a drunk and high driver going 40 over the speed limit, and the children passed in the back seat. He and his wife were devastated with grief. [13:12] The process of grief. Colin worked with grief groups, his rabbi, and his community to embrace the grief and push through the loss. Taking action from his grief kept him going, sitting in the sadness was overwhelming. He tries to stay connected with the kids. [16:00] First step to dealing with losing your children. Dealing with denial is an early step, if not the first to healing. It’s incredibly difficult to accept the fact that your children are really gone. [19:00] Colin leaned on his wife’s Jewish traditions for grief and loss support. The community support was critical to his process. [22:27] What happens after the rituals end? Jewish culture says to commemorate the end, so Colin and his wife, Gail, had a ceremony with family and friends. This is a practice they continue to lean on. [25:12] Navigating holidays after loss. Holidays are a reminder of the loss and can be challenging. Colin has found that leaning into the pain and honoring your loved ones helped. [26:43] Grief and marriage. Some couples isolate from each other and struggle after losing children; however, the rate of divorce is lower in couples who have experienced loss than the national average. Colin and Gail actively grieved together and found support in each other. [29:21] Pain, suffering, despair and moving through. Pain is the inescapable feeling of hurt that comes from loss. It needs to be felt. Suffering is the unhealthy expression of pain. Guilt and regret lead to suffering. Despair is overwhelming hopelessness - if you are suicidal you need to seek help. Rituals, community, talking about the dead and the pain, and taking action to connect with life and others are ways through. [36:53] Educating others. Colin and Gail wrote letters to the people around them to help them understand how to support them. It can feel awkward and takes a lot of courage. People appreciated being told what to say and do to help. Acknowledging the loss helps those grieving feel less alone. [43:47] What to say to people who are grieving. “There are no words” isn’t an accurate statement about loss. Ruby and Hart’s friends’ words were impactful because they were simply expressions of love and loss. “Comforting words” often minimize the pain. Giving people space to tell stories about the dead is the greatest gift you can give them. [47:55] Colin’s afterlife beliefs. He’s seen the kids in his dreams. He believes they live on inside of him and Gail. He sometimes thinks they might be sending him signs, but he warns against relying on signs too much. The afterlife can sometimes be used as a way to avoid feeling the hurt now because of a hope of reuniting later. [52:40] Colin’s experience fostering. It was originally Ruby’s idea. Their foster daughter eventually decided she didn’t want to be part of the family because she was afraid of being close with Colin and Gail. They are now fostering to adopt two siblings, a boy and a girl. It’s a tough road because foster children have lived a life of trauma and loss. [59:32] Colin’s book. “Finding the Words” is a great resource for those who are grieving. Amy shares a quote from the book. *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. Cellular Healing with Patti Conklin
05/25/2023
Cellular Healing with Patti Conklin
Did you know that your body stores emotions, down to the cellular level? Would you believe it if I told you there was someone who could see the particles that make up your body and facilitate cellular healing with this sight? Today we talk with Patti Conklin, a vibrational mediator, teacher, lecturer, radio personality, host of the show Healing Within: An Adventure Inside on Binge Networks, and an author. Patti approaches healing with an integrative lens and spiritual awareness to facilitate incredible outcomes with her clients. Her mission is to help people “become insubstantial without transitioning”. Listen to the episode for more about what that means, what her energetic gifts are like, and how she uses them to conduct cellular healing sessions. Topics We Discuss: [3:28] Patti explains her gifts. She was born with a rare way of seeing. It’s similar to the way a TV looks when it goes out. She sees one-dimensionally, has no depth perception, and sees particles. She can see the judgments in someone that create disease and their behavioral problems, and manipulate their body’s particles. [6:44] Does Patti release the emotions for the client, or does the client release them? After another visitation at 28 where she was taught to heal with colors, she healed her two forms of Lupus and eventually developed her cellular cleansing method. Patti manipulates a client’s cells and absorbs their energetic junk. [11:02] What does the soul want to experience? Sometimes a terminally-ill person is really supposed to be at the end of their life. Patti can help them arrive at death without fear. Sometimes she sees that doctors are wrong and meets with the patient and their doctor to help them move forward. [12:13] Patti uses an integrative lens- she looks at medical tests and scans with her work, but everything goes back to the emotions stored in your body. We choose emotions and can release them. The emotions in our bodies can be from our time in utero, past lives, or our current lives. You don’t need to know where they come from. [16:30] What happens when someone goes to Patti. Usually, someone is given a diagnosis (or label). She looks at what emotions are prevalent in someone’s life and body. Even if a person lies about what happened, Patti can see the memory of what happened in your body, sometimes as if from a movie. Everyone gets homework. She puts a responsibility on her clients to heal themselves. [24:47] Patti’s success rates. She has a 96%(!) healing rate. Clients still pass, and if they do it’s part of their soul’s journey. She can see if a soul is ready to leave or not, but nothing would stop her from helping someone. Her gifts can help the client and their families emotionally even at the end of life. [28:20] “Becoming insubstantial without transitioning.” How do we get past our judgments and into unconditional love without dying? Patti helps with physical health problems, emotional issues, and even possessions. [29:05] Patti’s experience helping with an exorcism. She defines demons as dark energies attempting to balance out light energies. [33:38] Patti’s daughter-in-law is a pharmacist. Coming from such a heavy Western clinical background, she has a difficult time understanding what Patti does. [36:34] Colorworks. Tones and colors hold active frequencies. Patti has a person feel into their experience and asks what color their body needs to heal. They tell her and then she helps them push the energy through their body. We use a lot of tools like tarot, supplements, etc. that we don’t really need. [41:05] Patti’s children and grandchildren. One son is very similar to her, another is a seer. Her adopted son even has some of her gifts too. Her grandchildren all have aspects of her gifts too. Her children saw who she was and took over the areas she didn’t do well - cooking and cleaning. They still support her work. *********************************************** SUPPORT DR. What if I told you there was a way to make the process more enjoyable? Today we talk with Hilary Russo, one of only 700 certified Havening practitioners worldwide. She’s also certified in Hypnotherapy and Integrative Nutrition and is an award-winning multimedia host/journalist focusing on health and wellness. You can find Hilary at the mic hosting the successful podcast, HIListically Speaking. Hilary studied directly under the founding doctors of Havening, who have called her a “pioneer” in the field. Trauma informed and educated, Hilary has been nationally recognized as a leader and public figure for her work in holistic health. Listen in to hear all about Hilary’s journey from journalism to wellness, how she stumbled upon Havening, and all about what Havening is. Topics We Discuss: [3:58] Hilary’s jump from journalism to wellness. She left the newsroom after 9/11 and became an Integrative Nutrition Certified Health Coach. She then learned about Havening. Her first experience with a session, which was during a live training seminar, touched on her father’s death and changed her life. [10:58] How does Havening work? The key component is the “Havening Touch”, a gentle touch that can be self-applied or used by a practitioner while talking through a traumatic event. It rewires your brain and leaves you feeling lighter. It can also make you feel like you’re “looking” for that heaviness and trauma. [15:00] Havening helps you process traumatic events. The touch used provides comfort and a pleasant distraction, and puts your brain into a delta wave state so that memories can be rewired. [19:22] The role of touch in the process. Touch provides a sense of calm, and combined with the change in thought processes due to the pleasure of the experience is where the magic for processing and change happens. [22:06] If someone feels uncomfortable being touched by another person due to abuse or another traumatic experience, they can start this process by trying 3 different methods of touching their own bodies - hands, arms, or face. These are the most effective, but someone can even use a “non-havening touch” on themselves if those won’t work. [27:27] Hilary does a short Havening session with Amy. They also discuss the differences between EFT/tapping and Havening. You can use the tools discussed to regulate yourself anytime and anywhere - for anxiety, performance, fear of flying, etc. [39:25] Find the tool that works for you. Stay Connected with Dr. Amy Robbins: *********************************************** EPISODE SUMMARY: When was the last time you stopped to smell the roses? Aside from smelling nice, taking time to regularly slow down and notice the natural world around you could change your life… Today we talk with Mark Coleman, a meditation teacher and founder of Awake in the Wild - an organization dedicated to sharing the transformative power of meditation in nature. His new book, “A Field Guide to Nature Meditation” provides a step-by-step framework for developing a nature meditation practice over the course of a year. Mark is a devoted student of Buddhist and mindfulness teachings and combines that background with his love of nature and the magic it possesses to help people create a truly transformational practice. Listen in to learn more about connecting with Mother Earth and how being in relationship with her can help you find peace, become comfortable with death, and heal. Topics We Discuss: [4:23] Nature calls us into presence and observation more easily than meditating in a dark room. Immersing our 5 senses in nature seems counterintuitive, but slowing down into joy, presence, and ease is the crux of mindfulness. [8:07] Build yourself up to stay outside longer, especially when it’s cold. The sensory experience of nature is pleasurable for us and pleasure brings us into the present. Admiring the beauty of simplicities like the sunset creates a sense of unity among people. [13:39] How Mark helps people connect. He calls on people to fully arrive with their minds wherever they physically are. Movement or “meandering” and just having people get lost in the landscape they’re at. There are a myriad of different ways to connect with and deepen your sensitivity to nature [19:09] Nature is healing in its own right, but just bringing yourself into the present moment brings so much healing and change. Letting our problems and stressors fade to the background of our mind for even brief periods of time induces physiological changes. [22:23] Nature not only exemplifies but is the cycles of life and death. It helps to normalize death. Reconnecting with nature reminds us that dying is part of the natural order, and that often death helps to feed new life. [31:10] The more time we spend in nature, the more we appreciate it and want to protect it. When we have a relationship with the earth, we recognize how harming the planet harms ourselves. Opening our hearts to caring more about the planet also means we have to grieve what’s been done. [38:28] Finding the balance between preservation and industrialization. Mark believes we have to focus on the good things millions of people are doing all over the world to help the environment. Take action if you are feeling anxious or hopeless and get involved with others to make a difference, even in a small way. [44:59] Meditating on nature without being outdoors. Mark teaches a “window meditation” in his book to help you connect to the natural world even if you’re in an office on a high rise. Stay Connected with Dr. Amy Robbins: *********************************************** EPISODE SUMMARY: How do you respond to challenges in your life? Many of us turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms, and then eventually fall flat on our face and have to actually acknowledge what we’ve pushed away. The depth that we are able to meet ourselves and then others with vulnerability and authenticity drastically affects our healing path. Today we talk with Neeta Bhushan, co-founder of the Global Grit Institute, a mental health training platform for leaders and coaches, co-founder of the Dharma Coaching Institute, training thousands to live their best lives, and a thriving coach in her own right. Neeta went through the depths of the most unimaginable grief and eventually met herself and soared to great heights. She’s helped thousands of people move past their heartbreaks, failures, and disappointments, researched human behavior, and fallen more than a few times herself, so she knows what it takes to get back up no matter what took you down. Listen in to hear her incredible story and how you can apply the lessons she’s learned about resilience, falling apart, vulnerability, and healing in your own life. Topics We Discuss: [3:02] Neeta’s story. Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when Neeta was 10. She had to grow up early and take on a lot of responsibility as the oldest daughter. Her parents were also tiger parents and she was expected to perform at a high level in school. [8:16] Neeta’s younger brother passed away within a year of her mom passing. Two years later, her father also passed. She fell into victim and survival mode, overwhelmed by grief. Her extended family stepped in to help her and her remaining brother. [15:45] The family support also fed her coping mechanisms in her 20’s. She didn’t rock bottom until 29. Up until that point, she became an overachiever and just tried to push forward and “be okay”. Education and success were her addictions. [20:20] Neeta had the “perfect” marriage in her 20’s… but it was all a lie and she eventually divorced because the relationship was tumultuous. This was the beginning of her spiritual awakening. [26:09] “Fly forward.” Neeta talks about this concept in her book - when we experience a fall we are faced with a decision to take responsibility and change or not. She dove headfirst into therapy and healing. [29:30] The meaning that you make about your experiences changes everything. Neeta calls this “the bounce factor”. The in-between stage between a sucky thing happening and moving forward requires vulnerability. You have to let go of any judgments you may have about the meaning you made. [33:45] Positive psychology has turned into a way to deny “bad” feelings and make everything positive. Toxic positivity became one of Neeta’s coping mechanisms. She is naturally optimistic and clung onto that during hard times. After her brother died, she experienced survivor’s guilt and the opposite of this positivity. [37:05] Where Neeta is now. After her divorce, she walked away from everything she previously knew and began saying “yes” to everything that she possibly could to push herself. She went on spiritual pilgrimages, started a nonprofit called “Independent Awakening”, began taking classes at Stanford business school, and became an angel investor - all while her dental practice grew. [43:20] Neeta eventually sold her practice because her ego wanted to expand it, but her heart was pulling her elsewhere. She moved to the Bay Area on a mission to interview 500 leaders and founders, and with that published her first book, “Emotional Grit.” She met her now-husband at multiple conferences over a few years until they decided to be together despite him being from Kuala Lumpur. [46:53] Neeta and her husband put their core values at the center of their relationship, something that couldn’t have been done without each of them doing the work on their own. She was afraid but open to trying. It reminded her of the slivers of joy that she had while going in and out of hospitals and grieving. hings can suck and you can still be okay. There is often a duality. [52:15] Neeta has received signs from her mom, dad, and brother. She’s seen them in spiritual journeys, worked with mediums, and had many dreams about them. They are her angels. FOLLOW NEETA BHUSHAN: Find Neeta and the programs she offers on her . Follow her on , , , , and . Neeta’s book, “That Sucked, Now What?” is available on . Stay Connected with Dr. Amy Robbins: *********************************************** EPISODE SUMMARY: Ever heard of “raising your vibration”? You may be wondering: what does that even mean? How do I do it? Is this just more woo-woo junk? Today we talk with Eileen Day McKusick, a sound healer, researcher, creator of the Biofield Tuning method, author, educator, and speaker. Her books, “Tuning the Human Biofield” and “Electric Body, Electric Health” focus on the human body’s electromagnetic field and how we can heal ourselves through manipulating this energy field with sound. Listen in to learn more about these scientifically-backed concepts and how sound healing can help you process emotional trauma. Topics We Discuss: [3:19] How Eileen got into biofield healing. She started using tuning forks with her massage clients and then learned about the energy field around the body. She studied this in university and wrote a thesis about the body’s electrical field. [7:12] Energy vs electricity. The body’s magnetic field. Our bodies have a flow of electrical current running through them – qi. [11:43] The human biofield is the magnetic field around the body and the internal electrical system of the body. It all works together since electricity creates magnetic fields. [13:36] What does a biofield tuning session look like? Weighted and unweighted tuning forks are used diagnostically on the body and in the energy field, respectively. Sound waves help constricted tissue open up. Eileen can tell what a person’s heart rate variability is like, how their breathing patterns are, etc. based on the feedback. [16:48] Our memories are stored in our body’s electromagnetic field. Energetic signatures from early in our lives are near the outer edges of our field, more recent energy is closer to our bodies. Eileen pings back and forth between the body and the energy field to see if they are in coherence. Traumas can be heard in the field by a change in tone or “voids” of sound. [20:52] Certain emotions are stored in specific parts of the field, which correspond to specific parts of the body and some part of ourselves that is stuck in that charge. Our energy feels low when our field is full of tension and blocked from flowing. We still have to see and sit with ourselves during this process. [26:47] Tuning forks vs sound bowls. Biofield tuning with forks is precise and targeted. Sound bowls are more generalized. Every emotion has a different sound. [30:26] Raising your vibration and spiritual bypassing. No emotion is “negative”- they are all part of the human spectrum and provide feedback to us. The goal should be to clarify our vibration, not raise it. Our vibrations are like the “noise” of our field. Voltage is the strength of our energy. We are humans having a human experience - not Christ or the Buddha. You have to feel it to clear it. [36:17] Less tension in our system results in a higher ability to process toxins. Many people look to food to help them optimize their energy fields. Eileen saw her health and energy levels and personal boundaries improve. [44:30] Pain can be relieved in one session, depending on the root it may take more sessions to keep it away. Training your mind to stay centered in the present allows your body to heal itself instead of working against it. FOLLOW EILEEN DAY MCKUSICK: Find Eileen and the programs she offers on her or on . Stay Connected with Dr. Amy Robbins: *********************************************** EPISODE SUMMARY: How easily can you sit with uncomfortable feelings? Would you believe me if I told you that a world of entirely new possibilities is available if you can learn to ride out those waves? Today we talk with Dr. Luke Sniewski, a somatic therapist trained in Gabor Mate’s therapeutic approach, Compassionate Inquiry. Luke trains and mentors other practitioners in this approach and strives to reconnect clients to their bodies so they can listen to and care for themselves, and from this place, leave behind old stories and patterns. Listen in to hear about the relationship between the body and mind in healing, the innate wisdom our bodies hold, how Compassionate Inquiry can help us bridge our past and present experiences, and more! Topics We Discuss: [3:18] Healing the body and mind, which comes first? Depends who you ask, but you can’t argue with your body’s physiological response to something. For example, how do you feel while following a specific diet, regardless of how someone else says you should feel? Paying attention to our body’s cues helps open the door to choosing differently. [9:09] The mind and stress. Our minds react to somatic stressors, such as experiencing anxiety after drinking a lot of coffee. The mind tries to come up with explanations outside of the body to explain the stress and anxiety. If the body is stressed, the mind is too. [13:19] Responding to a thought, whether in a “healthy” way or “unhealthy way”, engrains reactive patterning in our minds. Stillness is the key. Return to your breath. [18:51] Integrating insight in the body. Noticing not only our psychological patterns, but also the way our bodies feel in these patterns gives us another layer of understanding and an opportunity to choose differently for ourselves. Pausing before reacting allows us to make changes. [21:56] Compassionate Inquiry- Gabor Mate’s method- bridging the present-day suffering to what happened in childhood. Avoidance, repression, and numbing are the common coping mechanisms developed in childhood. [25:25] Urge surfing. Riding out uncomfortable experiences until they pass, without responding to the experience. Everything eventually passes. We can’t fight the wave, but we can learn to surf. [30:14] The body has wisdom the mind doesn’t understand. Fever and vomiting are two healing processes of our bodies that feel alarming to our minds. [33:05] Luke’s journey as a somatic healer and experience with Compassionate Inquiry. The CI approach calls for the practitioner to see the patient as the expert and remove their own assumptions. It puts you in relationship with the patient’s mind and body, which helps the patient see their own mind-body connection. [36:35] Most people are disconnected from their bodies because this disconnection helped them survive in childhood. One way to get around this is by imagining someone else going through the same situation and how that person must have felt. The goal is to bypass the mind’s defenses to connect the patient with their felt experience. [40:58] Someone being present with us without reacting to the pain we are experiencing allows us to connect with and move through emotions. Parents often rush to calm their children because they are uncomfortable with their child’s emotions instead of just witnessing them. Healing ourselves improves our capacity to be present with others. FOLLOW DR. LUKE SNIEWSKI: Find Dr. Sniewski and his Somawise programs at his . He is also on , , and . Stay Connected with Dr. Amy Robbins: *********************************************** EPISODE SUMMARY: Think about the most heart-wrenching loss you’ve experienced. Now think about the most magical love you’ve experienced. What do they have in common? A lot actually, it turns out. Today we talk with Marisa Renee Lee, a grief advocate, author, former Obama appointee, and CEO of the DEI consultancy, Beacon Advisors. She is also a Harvard graduate, and the former managing director of My Brother's Keeper Alliance; co-founder of the digital platform Supportal; and founder of The Pink Agenda, a national organization dedicated to raising money for breast cancer care, research, and awareness. Listen in to hear about Marisa’s journey through grief and motherhood – two closely intertwined experiences for her, the push and pull between asking for help when grieving and having it offered, sociopolitical barriers to grieving, the role of friendships in grief, and how exactly grief is love. Topics We Discuss: [3:48] Marisa’s book is a memoir of her own journey grieving her mother. Her mother had undiagnosed MS that left permanent damage because of a lack of care and was later diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Marisa spent much of her adolescence as a caretaker until her mother died. A pregnancy loss in 2019 finally pushed her to write Grief is Love. [8:28] Marisa finally started examining her grief over her mom because the void she found herself in from losing a pregnancy and not having her mom to comfort her was too painful. [10:29] Grief softens over time, but it still comes up even 15+ years later. Marisa allows herself time and space to grieve and does her best to take her own advice. When you’re missing someone, ask yourself what you are craving from that person and find a way to give it to yourself. [13:18] Asking for vs being offered help when grieving. There is a balance needed for both. Actions matter more than words. Do something for people that is either practical support or something that is a personal gift rooted in your relationship with the person. Sometimes the help we need is professional. We all need to get more comfortable asking for help. [19:29] Grieving as a Black woman in America. Minority communities are often most removed from access to necessary care. Black women are held to a higher standard for tolerating pain and are often told to “grin and bare it”. [23:48] People in positions of power and privilege need to make room for less privileged people to grieve and struggle. Capitalism as it stands now doesn’t allow for grief and healing. Grief time and parental leave need to become larger policy issues. [26:00] Grief is not just something that happens with death. Any time we lose hope of a future that we have some degree of certainty about, we grieve. [28:05] Marisa talks about one of her best friends missing her mom’s funeral. This was a huge strain on their relationship but they are still close today. It taught Marisa that grief requires grace for everyone involved because we all make mistakes. [33:51] Discussion of quotes from the book. Show up for the people you love. True friends are people that we let inconvenience us at times and who let us inconvenience them. [37:40] Joy in the face of grief. Don’t feel guilty for laughing during your grief process. Don’t force yourself to feel it but leave room for it to show up. Being honest about our grief helps to create that space. [39:42] How is grief love? Becoming a mother gave Marisa so much perspective and understanding about her grief and her mother’s love for her. The “continuing bonds” theory – the best way to live with intense loss is to find a way to continue a relationship with the deceased. Marisa’s sign from her mom can be found in the cover of Grief is Love. FOLLOW MARISA RENEE LEE: Find Marisa and more about her projects, Supportal and The Pink Agenda, on her , , or . Stay Connected with Dr. Amy Robbins: *********************************************** EPISODE SUMMARY: Can you believe that visualizing yourself dying and laying in a coffin could lead you to a more fulfilling life? Today we talk with Emily Cross, a death doula and artist who also hosts “living funerals” – group meditative exercises where you walk through your own funeral and death while contemplating what really matters to you and culminating in you laying in a coffin. Listen in to hear about this practice and its roots, how Emily created her own version of the ceremony, and how she blends her artistic gifts and skills as a doula to create “legacy projects” for her clients. Topics We Discuss: [3:23] How Emily became interested in death and dying at a comparatively younger age than most in the space. She was always interested in liminal spaces and the metaphysical even as an art student. [5:30] What being a death doula is like.It often varies outside of the basics, like NDAs. Emily often offers her services on a sliding scale. A lot of the work she does with families is educational. She also loves doing “legacy projects”. [9:00] Hospice care does not provide emotional support, unlike a death doula. Bringing a death doula in earlier can be more helpful or beneficial than last minute because they are able to see the big picture. [11:00] Emily’s biggest takeaways from sitting with people at the end of life – everything is temporary. She works with some of her clients to create art pieces as they approach the end of their lives. [13:16] Living funerals – Emily practices these as ceremonies to bring mortality closer to your life and help you refocus and reprioritize your life. It is essentially a death meditation. She considers funerals where the dying individual is in attendance “celebrations of life”. [16:30] Emily was introduced to this practice during her death doula training, which was started in South Korea as an attempt to help curb the suicide rate there. It was meant to help show people that their lives were worth living. She couldn’t find anyone doing this in the United States so she created her own ceremony and practice. [21:13] Many people have used Emily’s living funeral ceremony as the catalyst for radical change in their lives. People have divorced, moved countries, let certain chapters of their lives go, started businesses, and so much more after doing this.** [23:45] People often feel a sense of peace during the funeral while laying in their coffin. Many have out of body experiences or feel like they’re going somewhere they’ve known before. [26:30] Emily based her ceremony off of the South Korean rituals she saw. Most of the videos didn’t have subtitles so she doesn’t know everything that was said, but she just tried to replicate what she saw while also making it her own. Stay Connected with Dr. Amy Robbins: *********************************************** EPISODE SUMMARY: Have you ever seen someone die? Do you know what actually happens? Does it scare you? Today we talk with Julie McFadden (Hospice Nurse Julie), a hospice nurse whose videos showing people what the process of dying looks like have garnered millions of views. Julie’s mission is to educate people about death and help them feel more comfortable about it since it’s the one thing we all do. Listen in to hear how Julie got into hospice nursing (it wasn’t her first or even second pick), what active death is and what it’s like, some of the phenomena people often experience close to death, and what life is really all about. Topics We Discuss: [2:56] Julie’s experience creating a cult-like following by talking about death and dying on social media. [4:03] Julie’s shift from ICU nursing to hospice nursing. Death happens a lot in the ICU but isn’t discussed. Julie knew that needed to change. She went into hospice nursing because she knew there had to be a better way to die. [10:22] Hospice vs palliative care vs death doulas. [15:29] What is actively dying like? It usually lasts a few hours to a few days. Our body’s natural dying processes kick in, similar to the way our bodies instinctively birth. We all pretty much look the same when we’re actively dying, no matter what disease we’re dying from. The process may seem graphic if you haven’t seen it before, but it’s all normal. [22:12] “Rallies” sometimes occur right before someone actively dies. The person can seem almost like they’ve made a full recovery for a day before suddenly dying. “Visioning”, or a dying individual seeing their dead loved ones, typically occurs in the month to weeks before death while the individual is still perfectly lucid. [26:03] Julie knows that visioning is not psychosis or drug-induced delirium or other conditions commonly attributed as the cause because she has seen those things in a clinical setting and says it’s completely different. Many people find it very comforting. [29:54] Julie’s shared death experience. See William Peter’s book "" (affiliate) for more anecdotal stories of people’s shared death experiences. [36:35] Death and dying and spirituality are not mutually exclusive. Julie has always been spiritual, and her work as a hospice nurse has only solidified her belief in something more. Dying and birth feel like we’re going to or coming from a place we all know. [40:33] Hospice has made Julie realize that life is about connecting with people. Deaths of Julie’s loved ones have given her the understanding to not take life for granted, to not hold grudges, and to be easy on herself and others. Connecting with a higher power and serving others brings contentment and connection. [44:42] Medical Aid In Dying (MAID) or “assisted suicide”. Julie is supportive of this practice. Some states in the US allow this. It can be a beautiful, intentional experience. [51:26] Psychedelics and death care. There is some promising research behind psychedelics, and Julie knows of healthcare practitioners who have witnessed it and are in favor of it. FOLLOW HOSPICE NURSE JULIE: Find Julie on , , and . Stay Connected with Dr. Amy Robbins: *********************************************** EPISODE SUMMARY: Are you dissatisfied with the way “Western” medicine operates? Do you believe there’s another way? Today we talk with Dr. Paul Drouin, the founder of Quantum University and a pioneer in the integrative medicine space. Listen in to hear how quantum physics principles apply to healthcare, how you have the power to heal yourself, and how by healing yourself you can help heal the world. Topics We Discuss: [3:41] How Dr. Drouin, a traditionally-trained medical doctor, began looking at the quantum world and its impact on health. For him, it was the next step after integrative medicine. Medicine as taught in schools is outdated and doesn’t take into account subtle energies. This is where the idea for Quantum University was born. [8:20] Quantum physics principles such as non-locality and quantum entanglement challenges the idea of “separateness” that permeates medicine. Most diseases are issues of the body AND mind and spirit. Practitioners at Quantum University learn to restore client’s beliefs in their body’s ability to heal. [14:11] Modalities like acupuncture that have thousands of years of application are often passed on. Spontaneous healing is often discredited by practitioners who don’t understand that through the quantum field the possibility for healing is always there. Giving patients death sentences is devastating. Most cancer originates with psychological trauma. [19:20] Healing occurs because of the individual. Multiple pieces make up the environment that sets the foundation for our reality. Depending on what we put in will dictate what can grow. We have access to tremendous energy inside of us to materialize different possibilities. Power must be given back to individuals for their own health. [23:38] Terrain vs germ theory - blending the two is key. Quantum physics can help bridge these two and expand our awareness of other possibilities. [26:35] Medicine is currently based on the “upward model” - the base is matter and our body, and the mind is just a byproduct of chemical reactions in the body, but they are separate and need to be treated separately. Quantum U teaches a “downward model” - consciousness is the base of everything, mind AND body come from that. [29:17] Subtle energies - Taoist’s figured out how energy circulates in the body a long time ago. Energy is associated with different emotions in different parts of the body, and there are “high” and “low” expressions of that energy. Love, for example, is associated with the heart and can be egotistical and focused on power and control, or it can be altruistic. [35:10] People are becoming more open to applying quantum principles to healthcare. Individuals like Bruce Lipton and Joe Dispenza have helped pave the way for others to study and discuss this. The “quantum culture” is growing and resistance is fading. [41:10] Consciousness is not fully understood with the mind. Pure awareness and stillness is consciousness. According to quantum physics, we are eternal. At one point, it was discovered that some monks were experiencing reality the same way that quantum physics described it. [47:25] If a critical mass of people believe that you can heal yourself to heal others and operate from that viewpoint, the world can change. Dr. Drouin started for this reason. Stay Connected with Dr. Amy Robbins: *********************************************** EPISODE SUMMARY: What is love? What does it take to love? Today we talk with Humble the Poet, a Canadian-born rapper, spoken-word artist, poet, internationally bestselling author, and former elementary school teacher. His efforts to impress girls with spoken-word in coffee shops have transformed into a creative adventure spanning over 10 years and transforming into something completely different. He now uses his platforms to share art and teach others “How to be Love(d)." Listen in to hear what truly blocks us from love, how to be in relationship with yourself, and how every relationship in your life mirrors that one. Topics We Discuss: [3:07] We have to be love to be loved. Love can’t be given or received if we are blocked. A failed relationship opened Humble up to this. [5:28] Love is within us. Affection, sex, attention, power, etc aren’t love and can’t fill that void. We can’t find love, we can only realize the love that is there. You have to let go of your insecurities, old habits, beliefs, etc to realize it. This can only start within. Self-love is treating ourselves the way we treat people we love. [7:41] We often feel undeserving of love because we know our imperfections and insecurities. Even the people we love have these though. There are no qualifications for love. Having the car, the clothes, the money, etc won’t bring you more love. External validation can’t solve an internal problem. [9:51] The way we treat others is always a reflection of how we treat ourselves. Vulnerability is the first step to building a relationship with anyone. This doesn’t mean sharing your deepest, darkest secrets on the first date. Journaling and therapy can help. Self-awareness is the key. [13:17] You are not your thoughts or emotions. All of us to various degrees are floating through life unconsciously. The only way to stop is by becoming self-aware. Journaling has to be done unfiltered. Prayer is another way to be intentional and authentic with yourself and God about what you really want out of life. Happiness is an expression of gratitude. [18:29] You have to figure out what matters to you in relationships. Being loved vs liked. If we’re worried about being liked, we are sabotaging ourselves from experiencing real love. [20:52] Movement is medicine. All relationships have a level of physical intimacy. Dancing, hugging ourselves, staring at yourself naked in the mirror. Connecting with vs criticizing our bodies sets the bar for our relationship with ourselves. Social media perpetuates unhealthy views of ourselves. [24:14] ‘We are flawed people raised by flawed people.’ Flawed doesn’t equal unlovable. Childhood traumas can shape our decisions, but we have an obligation to own our baggage. Healing can be found in reparenting your inner child. [30:47] Our unconscious patterns stay with us until we correct them in adulthood. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves when we consciously act them out. Humble was taught that vulnerability is weakness. [33:28] Social media has many of us seeking external validation. It’s designed to keep us hooked in. The biggest cages we live in are internal. The journey to self-awareness is limiting in itself. Progress is the goal. [36:55] Humble’s experience with DMT. His personal definition of meditation - sit and do nothing. Loneliness is a circumstance, not a feeling. Lack of vulnerability can make us feel lonely in our relationships. [40:59] Love as a verb vs love as a noun. We often look for reciprocity in romantic love unlike other relationships. Focusing on love as service allows us to give love to anyone. Divorce is a byproduct of wanting someone else to love us more than we love ourselves. TV and media almost never depict happy healthy marriages. Marriage is an industry. [48:39] Most true, simple wellness activities are free. Our economy is built on selling us expensive and complicated solutions. FOLLOW HUMBLE THE POET: Find Humble at his or on .
