Taking Off Our Masks

Taking Off Our Masks
This is how we make life work when Halloween is over and it's time to take our masks off. What masks do we hide behind? There are physical masks and emotional masks that we tend to find solace if we can keep hidden behind them. But what happens when we take those off? The relatability and reality behind them is often times more comforting than the facade that it puts out. We present some of our masks and how we can work around them! Christi's Weekly Favorite: Natalie's Weekly Favorite: This week's encouragement from God's Word: "Jerusalem will be rebuilt on its ruins, and the palace reconstructed as before."-Jeremiah 30:18 "But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint"-Isaiah 40:31

The Golden Repair of Life with Tamara Le
This is how we make life work when God repairs all of our brokenness. Natalie sits down with her friend Tamara Le and disects some major life lessons. Tamara walks us through her story starting with a life changing surgery at the age of 3 that would leave her as a selective mute for years to come. Her anxieties woven into her inner child wires that would prove life to be a bit challenging. During the times of 2020, Tamara and her family moved from Southern California to Texas where her real journey of faith came to fruition. They have since relocated to Idaho in what seemed like a quick turn of events, but were they really? Was the Lord working something and maybe plucking feathers all along? Throughout her almost 40 years Tamara came to see her life as a piece of Kintsugi which literally means 'golden repair'. She now sees all of her broken pieces mended by the beautiful gold metals of the Lord and what he has been able to make a brilliant piece of art. Tamara's Favorite: This week's encouragement from God's word: "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps" Proverbs 16:9

Just some tangible advice on how we keep our peace when things around us are wild! Do we take the approach of avoidance to protect our peace? Or do we immerse ourselves in it? Grace in the Gaps
03/30/2022
Grace in the Gaps
This is how we make life work with the ups and downs of everyday life. What do we do in the gaps of the rollercoaster of life? We have really great days where everything is firing and then out of nowhere the bottom seems to fall out. It's called life and it can be a bit of a roller coaster. There are some really great highs and some really crummy lows, so what do we do in the 'gaps'...those drops in the roller coaster? We are human and frustrations can mount to a point of explosion, yet we almost can't enjoy those great days because we sense what might be coming. How do we give ourselves grace and how do we move through the 'Tuesdays'? We have a REAL conversation with REAL examples of how the bottom falls out and how we cope. Bad days, bad mindset, bad self judgement, bad body image...ALL the things!!! Grace can look like: Rally! Sometimes we just need to rally and get ourselves together. Our problems/moments/complaints can snowball. One small issue can snowball and we can get more and more frustrated. Just like a snowball traveling down a hill...you may not be able to push it back up but you can stop it! We may not be able to back track our day, but we can STOP the mindset and keep it from growing more negative day by day. Gratitude! Find thankful moments in the little things. What are the small things that (even though life feels out of control) we can look at and say thank you. It's hard to be gracious to ourselves and grateful for what we have, but it's SO important. Live in it! Not for the long term, but just be in it. Accept it might be a bad day but not a bad life. A new day is coming, it is PROMISED to us! Be aware, be mindful, figure out where it's coming from and move through it. Unpack and Unload Whether it's with your person who you can be totally transparent with or journaling your thoughts, its' so important to let it out. When we are able to unpack all of those things, we can look and see WHERE the problem lies, WHAT it looks like and HOW we can move forward. Staying in the Word and staying equipped for hard moments sure does help. Hide those words in your heart...NOT TODAY SATAN! Life wasn't promised to be easy, but finding grace and gratitude in those gaps is key. Favorite Finds time!!! RICE WATER?!?! Is this something you can buy or something you make? Do you drink it or what? Here's the deal...you make it and put it on your hair to help it get stronger, healthier, thicker and just BETTER!

Drawing Boundaries
03/09/2022
Drawing Boundaries
This is how we make life work when trying to establish boundaries. Whether it's with friends, coworkers or family, how do we heed the same advice that we might lend to others? Is our happiness being sacrificed to keep others happy? Are you a people pleaser or an empath? Getting involved in others people's drama, trying to fix people and not saying NO can be a REAL struggle! but our 'yes' puts our life into more chaos. It's time to draw some boundaries! Empaths feel EVERYTHING The instict to fix it and make everyone feel better can put us over the edge. We can still be helpful but not get pulled into it. Sure we just want to be helpful but we somehow get in the middle of it. If we are fixing other people's 'stuff', we are just putting our 'stuff' to the side! You dont have to say anything right away. When others in turmoil, they will cling to those they feel are their saviors. Be aware so that you can draw that boundary line...here is the advice and back out! Do a real good gut check and see if it's worth it in the long haul to get involved. What is the motive and intention? If your motives are pure and intentions are good, then move forward. But if you can say no to either of those, you have to take a step back. It's easy to become the problem instead of fixing the problem if there is an unhealthy boundary. We HAVE to learn to say NO Perspective and age play a big part in realizing what our life priorities are and where we need to start saying no. We can set the stage upfrong to avoid conflict and guilt in the future. The pile on is real...by not saying no to getting mixed up in other's people junk, we sacrifice what really matters. We hurt those around us instead of doing the opposite. Putting other people's happiness ahead of ours really doesn't work. It's a vicious cycle and SO real! Contribute to other's happiness but don't be responsible for it! We contribute to their happiness by just being ourselves. We aren't responsible for other people's happiness...we can contribute but we are NOT responsible. That is not our cross to bear and we haven't been called to play God. HOW do we set the boundary to NOT fix other people's junk? If praying is your jam, you need to pray about that! Ask yourself if you're helping them with the long game so they learn how to handle issues in the future with grace and wisdom. When it comes to saying no, draw up those life priorities. Be ok with disappointing people, because we WILL. Think about what you would tell your daughter or son...how would you advise them on boundaries? Take that into consideration and use it for yourself! When it's all said and done, we just want to end the day well, so how does that look to each of us??

What is Balance?
03/03/2022
What is Balance?
This is how we make life work when pondering balance. Christi sits down to talk about BALANCE...what is it? how do we attain it? DO we attain it? Finding Balance in life is kinda laughable! When life feels like a tigh rope we just hope that there's a safety net under us. As women, we are overwhelmed by so much and we always feel guilty. Do we put that pressure on ourselves or does society? Who are we listening to? Too busy is NOT a good badge to be wearing! We recognize that our to do lists are ridiculous, but that badge of honor needs to be taken off. The simplicity isn't held to the same standard as it used to be because we want MORE. Let's reframe the phrase of BALANCE...HOW??? Realign! Stop and look at where we are and where we want to be. What has to come off of our lists? What doesn't bring joy and get us closer to where we want to be? Check in on our priorities...take the difference makers and make our days work around those. Measure the mundane against those difference makers. If it doesn't align, it's an easy NO. Align, Realign, Check, Recheck. Adaptability! Realize that each day may have to look different and be ok with making those changes. Things come at us unexpectedly all the time, so we have to really think through and learn how to adjust. Be able to reset and make it work for YOU! Restore! Where's the restoration in BUSY? Restoration can be different for each us, but it's SO important! Maybe it's scrolling, maybe it's reading, maybe it's getting in the word. You have to keep the main thing the main thing!!!

Thriving During the Holidays with Dr. Desire Taylor
This is how we make life work when we want to go from surviving during the holiday season to THRIVING! Natalie sits down with Dr. Desire Taylor to dissect all things during this time of year. Dr. Taylor is a clinical psychologist with her private practice in the Dallas area. She grew up all over the world as her parents were both in the military. She eventually settled in Texas where she obtained her bachelor's degree in African American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. From there, she earned her doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology. Her training continued with an internship at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora, Colorado. Then she completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio, Texas. We discuss some GREAT topics along with strategies to combat the struggles! Why are we so stressed this time of year? Holidays have become taxing. We are preparing, consuming, acquiring, and out of our rhythms. Great deal of expectation/comparison/pressure Many of the things take a lot of physical and mental energy which leads to being overwhelmed and overloaded This time of year seems to highlight relational conflict/challenges whether with family/friends or alone Why do we seem more emotional during the holidays? This is a sacred season, we are meant to feel and be moved during this time, BUT we don't consider that and treat ourselves as such Holidays highlight grief and loss in a real way Unrealistic expectations mean we are not prepared for the realities of our beautiful but dysfunctional families. We might shift into being more rigid and less flexible to try to meet those unrealistic expectations We go into feeling personal failure, criticism, judgement, all of which disconnect us from ourselves and loved ones Why are holidays harder after trauma? The message is that this time of year is supposed to be joyful and cheer but those who are experiencing the impact of trauma feel anything but that. If we edge into faking it, it makes the situation even worse We have memories of past holidays where the trauma was NOT there so it can act as a reference point and highlight a clear before and after Nervous system is hyper vigilant following trauma, so adding more stress to a body that's already pretty taxed is a tough combo How do we deal? Treat this as a holy time, a sacred time Shift away from what the holidays should look like and and ask yourself 'How do I want to FEEL after the holidays are over?' to allow that to be your guide through the season Pause...physically, mentally, schedule wise. Really make sure quiet time is locked in and respected MAKE SPACE...what does that mean?? THIS is good!!!!!! Identify and take stock of your common triggers beforehand. Figure out how you want to navigate that and how you might retreat Challenge the expectations!!! You can follow Dr. Taylor for more of her amazing wisdom via her Instagram at @doctor.desi and reach her via emal at [email protected]

This is how we make life work when we untangle the Christmas season. How do we focus more on Presence over Presents? Is it even possible? We don't have the answers and know the 'how tos' for it all BUT we want to just have a living room chat and see what comes up. There are some things we aren't going to negotiate on such as memory making with gingerbread houses and all the mess that comes with it. But what CAN we cut back on? Maybe it's drawing boundaries with families so that we can stay put on Christmas morning. Maybe it's realizing that in one year from now our kids won't remember the gifts they got. Come hang out with us and let's see what we can do together to validate the craziness of Christmas while keeping the joy of the season!

ReEl vs. ReAl
This is how we make life work when we UNmask! Are we sharing the REELs of our lives or the REAL lives we lead? We know that all of us would rather share that highlight reel as we seek to avoid insecurity, but what does that lead to? Envy, comparison and a spiral of mental health. But what do we do? Before you post it or say it Do a gut check! Is this living your most authentic self? Are you hiding behind a mask or unvailing who you truly are to your core? Legacy building We always talk about ending the day well! Each day adds up to a life well lived and leaving a legacy to those we love and those who know us. What are we doing with the in between moments? Get off Social! Yeah, we get it, we get sucked in too! But get off of social when it doesn't matter so that you can live your REAL life vs. your REEL life Start your day well We want to end the day well but what about how we start? Are you reaching for your phone first thing or having a bit of introspect time? Setting the tone for your day is so crucial! Go check out the BIBLE APP!!! Renewing through Restoration
This is how we make life work through a bit of rest. Let's face it, neither of us are real 'restful' souls, so this is a really hard subject for us. But we also realize that there is renewal amongst the rest that we allow ourselves. We don't enjoy when people tell us to rest! Why? It makes us feel anxious and lazy. But that's NOT how it should be! We love fitness but we also know that our results don't come if we work our muscles 24/7. The growth comes when we rest our muscles and allow them to recover. That doesn't mean sitting around all day while they recover, but it DOES mean allowing rest. How can we help YOU to grasp onto more rest so that you are the best version of yourself? Flip the Script... RESTORATION...rest is at the root! It's a renewing of something that has been lost. Rest is taking a break from the stressful and strenuous activities Be true to you... What does 'rest' mean to you? What would YOUR ideal rest period look like? Communicate with your loved ones... Define your perfect 'rest' period Share that with those in your household We challenge you to REALLY take a step back and look at how you can rest more. Your mind, body and soul ALL need that restoration!!!!

The Honeymoon is Over!
This is how we make life work when the honeymoon of summer comes to an end. Our patience is running thin, the kids are restless and we are craving routine. We give our strategies on keeping our mental health on point so that we can be better for everyone around us and feel like we have finished well. As the summer winds down we can feel more stress creeping in as we get a longer list of things we need to get done before school starts. So how do we begin??? Having a to do list is KEY to making sure that we keep order. It helps us to navigate the most important. When our heads are in order, it helps to keep our lives in order. Whether you like pen and paper or a digital planner, it’s so important to focus on what lies ahead Personal growth is something we just cannot let slide by. Making even 5 minutes to take care of ourselves is crucial to being the best for ourselves and for others. Some of our favorites are plugging in great podcasts, listening to books on audible and just old school sitting down with a good book to help us grow. We touch on social media and how it can be somewhat of a detriment to our headspace. We don’t want it wrecking our worlds with strong comparison games so we strategically follow those who inspire us. Surround yourself with inspiration and motivation to keep on track. Borrowing trouble from the future might seem like it’s a crazy strategy to keep us on track, but is it?!? Not necessarily! Big decisions and little decisions, what affect will it have on our future selves? Is it going to make us feel more behind or help us get ahead of the game? By borrowing trouble from the future we can avoid issues while also making great gains in our mental health worlds. Resources mentioned: This Episode's FAVES: Face: Fashion: and ! Food:

Unraveling Summer Fitness
This is how we make life work when unraveling our fitness during the summer ! It’s hard to fit workouts into our day, we get it... it’s hot, procrastination takes over and there are a million things pulling at us. But we have to make it a part of our day and here are simple solutions to make your fitness journey work so that you can end the day well. It should be a part of your daily to do list! We all have crazy schedules right now, so how can we fit in our workouts during the busy summer months? We suggest picking 3 days to workout at a higher intensity, always being in motion by adding simple movement patterns to your daily routines, and scheduling it out. Having the right space is crucial! It isn’t a one size fits all and it doesn’t mean a full spread of a gym, but having a few simple things in place will give you the right headspace and space for movement. We even give some of our favorite items to help! Our favorite playlist? Hip Hop BBQ on Pandora is the big winner!!!! Prioritizing is KEY!!! We make a 30 minute workout just as important as showering and brushing our teeth on most days. It can’t fall off the list, so having a plan together and not compromising your day until this is conquered will help to make it a ‘1’ in your appointments. Your overall health is more important than what we give it credit for. Start taking care of yourself NOW so that you are set for any other battles that may come your way. At the end of the day, it is about being PROACTIVE in your fitness journey instead of being REACTIVE! Keep it simple, keep it realistic and end the day well! Unraveling Summer Travel Tips
07/12/2021
Unraveling Summer Travel Tips
This is how we make life work when planning summer travel! Natalie sits down to talk with Dori Reuber of Vincent Vacations to learn some common misconceptions and her top travel tips. Life is tangled, so here's how we can make it work a bit easier! Is it more expensive to work with a travel agent? That's a typical misconception! Some do charge a plan to go fee but not all do...like Dori. Her agency is a fee free planner which is SO helpful. It's comparable to buying a house...those realtor fees are built in just like travel agent fees are always built in whether you use them or not. Why would someone use a travel advisor instead of booking on their own? They spend their own time and money to tour destinations for their clients. They have first hand experience! They have access to promotions and deals that the general public doesn't. They all share information and help each other so that they can help their clients in the best possible way. They do all of the leg work for you and take away a big chunk of stress! What are some great booking tips for summer travel? Use a travel advisor!!!! Buy an insurance policy on your trip...there are several ways and Dori gives us guidance on those. Google flights is a great resource to see what airlines are pricing on what days Premium flights are on holidays What are some great packing tips? Lists Carry on only (is quart size toiletries still a thing??) TSA Pre-Check vs. Global Entry options Minimizing packing and wear dry fit material to keep compact in suitcases and possibly use the packing cubes Sunscreen is crazy expensive at resorts to pack as much as you can If you do check your bags, take a backpack with swimsuit, first change of clothes, toothbrush and meds What are some helpful booking strategies when working with a travel advisor? Be pretty specific with dates and what is important to you. Let them know what type of room you want and what your preferences are. This helps them to tailor something for the best experience for you! Also give them a budget...without that it's very hard to make sure that you get the best trip and so that they can do their job. They don't work for free and don't get paid until you have taken your trip...BIG misconception! Specials are based on supply and demand so if you book at a different time than someone in your group, there could be a price difference. Tickets can be put on hold for 24 hours unless it's last minute. Rates are going up so don't be surprised when booking! Peace Out Hot Girl Summer

Peace Out Hot Girl Summer
This is how we make life work while saying peace out to the ‘HOT GIRL SUMMER’! We talk about our insecurities in our mind and body as we worry about judgement from others. How do we give ourselves the freedom to be who we are today as we combat the craving to rewind the clock. How do we stop doing this to ourselves? Simple solutions that we try to implement and hope YOU will put into place!!! Control What You Can Control! Thoughts, food, movement, habits, etc. You can CHOOSE to have a strategy to shift things or to keep going down the same path. Feed the Positivity! Have you ever written a list of the GOOD things about yourself? What about seeing your favorite quotes regularly? What is seen on the outside is not always what’s happening on the inside! Ditch the Extremes! It’s not about all or nothing, it’s about keeping it realistic. Small things lead to BIG things, so keep the focus real. Just end the day well! What Legacy are You Leaving? Our challenge to you this summer is to take a picture with your kids in a swimsuit…it’s about the memories not the body. Some of our favorite scriptures to keep handy: Hebrews 12:1-3 Luke 12:48 Psalm 139:14 We love these quotes: “I Am Worthy” “I am learning to love my body and I can CHOOSE to make choices that respect and honor my body today” “I am perfectly imperfect” “I like me, she gets me” “You are enough” “What others think of you is none of your business” “Outward appearance is nothing without inner growth” Tanologist Tan Drops: Honey Bead Stacks: Sign up for our newsletter !!!!!
