91: Stories of Hope and Three Roads to Motherhood: Jessica Babcock’s Journey of Diagnosis, Adoption & Faith
Three Roads to Motherhood: Jessica Babcock’s Journey of Diagnosis, Adoption & Faith ✨ Episode Summary: In this heartfelt episode of Miss Style, Strength, and Grace, I sit down with my dear friend Jessica Babcock—a woman whose path to motherhood followed three uniquely beautiful roads. Her journey began with Colby, her firstborn, who lives with cystic fibrosis and is on the autism spectrum. Because she and her husband Brent both carry the CF gene, they faced a 1 in 4 chance of passing it on with each pregnancy. Their desire to grow their family led them down two alternative paths: first, through adoption—welcoming their daughter June after a devastating failed match and adoption scam—and then through embryo adoption, which gave them their youngest son, Tanner, whom Jessica carried as a gestational mother despite no biological relation. From navigating diagnosis and special needs parenting to rebuilding trust in the adoption process and embracing the miracle of embryo adoption, Jessica’s story is layered with faith, perseverance, and so much love. We share laughter, tears, and even a little friendly banter about pickleball. This conversation is for anyone who needs hope that families come together in many ways—and all of them are sacred. 👩👧👦 Guest Bio: Jessica Babcock is a devoted mom of three, wife to chiropractor Brent Babcock, and a former hairstylist and beauty trainer. Today, she juggles motherhood with managing her family’s chiropractic clinic—and finding joy in the unpredictable, unforgettable journey of growing a family built by love. 💫 In this episode, we cover: Parenting Colby through cystic fibrosis and autism The heartbreak of a failed adoption scam—and the joy of adopting June What it’s like to experience embryo adoption and carry your non-biological child The emotional and spiritual highs and lows of alternative paths to motherhood Pickleball, beauty biz days, and lifelong friendship 💖 Jessica’s journey is proof that there’s more than one way home—and every path has a purpose. 📲 Listen now on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you stream podcasts. 🎧 Stay connected and inspired @stylebydeidra on Instagram. #MissStyleStrengthAndGrace #ThreeRoadsToMotherhood #MapToMotherhood #AdoptionStory #EmbryoAdoption #CysticFibrosisAwareness #SpecialNeedsParenting #AlternativePathsToParenthood #FaithFilledMotherhood #EmpowerInspireUplift #StyleByDeidra

87: Series: Stories of Hope, My Battle With Infertility
I would venture to bet that you probably know a woman who has battled some form of infertility. Infertility has many facets and looks different for any family, but ultimately the definition is the inability to concieve or carry to term after a year or more of trying. This has been an episode on my heart for over three years now, but I never had the guts to finally sit down and record the full story until now. Today, as we celebrate Valentine's week and all things love, I am sharing the love my family was finally able to share with our little boy who joined our family through the beautiful journey of adoption. Go deep with me, even as I fight back tears, to share my battle of infertility, the methods I considered when trying to conceieve, and how we finally ended up choosing an adoption agency. I provide insights for families that may be considering adoption or fostering, to even the choices I had to make concerning my hormones and trying to get pregnant. Why am I sharing this episode? I go deeper in the podcast, but I feel within the depths of my soul that I need to open up about this struggle in order to help connect other women who may be battling infertility. This is the first episode in a series I have titled Stories of Hope: Connecting Women Battling Infertility. Stories provide healing, hope, and empathy. I am compelled to bring this topic to light for many women, bringing more awareness to an issue that is typically a silent struggle. Join me today as I tell our complete story to bringing our baby boy home, and more about the selfless choice a young woman made in order to see a bright future for her son. If you have battled some form of infertility and would like to be featured on my podcast, please reach out to me via social media today. 81: An Empty Closet - Not Feeling WORTHY
In today's podcast, meet Gretchen: Gretchen is one of my in-person styling clients. When she and I first started working on her style and image, she thought it was just a surface issue. She she *thought* just needed some "new clothes." As we started working together, I discovered the issue was much deeper than just not having enough clothing in her closet or having items that fit/flattered her figure (which side note, there usually is a deeper issue that becomes a limiting belief). The issue was that now being an empty-nester, her kids had grown and moved out, Gretchen truly didn't feel inspired by her closet anymore, hadn't actually shopped for herself in almost 30 years (she still had maternity clothing in there), and was still in the mode of everyone-first-but-me-last mentality. This left her feeling lackluster, uninspired to even get dressed, and worse, like she wasn't WORTHY of dressing for who she was WORTHY of being seen. Does this sound familiar/similar to you? Listen in to find out HOW by working with a stylist, Gretchen was able to transform her self-worth, spark her love life again, and even travel the world with her spouse. Because let's be honest, if she KNEW how to feel worthy again and transform her self-image, she would have done it on her own already. I guided her and gave her a unique framework to develop her confidence again through the power of style. To listen to my past Want more in-depth knowledge for pulling out confidence from your closet? 79: MOMbody in a 6-Pack World
I'm going to be real, this was literally...the...hardest...episode... I have ever recorded. I tried not to cry or get too emotional on you. Why? Today I am sharing my deepest and fear and current struggle, with my weight, self-image, body-image, and even my fear in regards to *trying* to start a family. Or what I call, trying to have a MOMbod in a 6-pack world. TRUTH: I am 10 pounds heavier than my normal self. That means most of my jeans currently don't fit, I don't fully look at myself in the mirror right now, and I am trying to be okay with it. I know, that all sounds super shallow. YES I am already debating in my head whether or not to even share this episode, or this description right now, because it might make me seem like a shallow person. BUT I am going to challenge myself to be real, vulnerable, and to share the hard things. I am sharing this today to vocalize what I am struggling with. If I am struggling with the negative self talk, the destructive behavior, and body image issues, I know other women are struggling too. Find out WHY I am actually NOT trying to lose the weight, why I feel like it is important to share and be vulnerable about my current struggle, and HOW we can be there for one another. By sharing today's episode, I hope to inspire you to not give up on yourself - no matter what your struggle is. 78: When Life Dumps Snow on You, Make Snow Angels.
Are you having a bonkers winter where you are at, my dear? I am going on day 3 this week, day 7 total, of being snowed in - we seriously haven't been able to get our cars (even my husband's truck) out of our road because of snow drifts for miles. It may sound crazy, especially if you live on a road that the city plows, but out in the sticks for us country bumpkins, it is just another day in the frozen tundra. Just the other night in order to get home, we had to take a snowmobile to our place, with luggage! You have to listen to that story at the end of the podcast today, as well as all of our adventures of the snowstorm of February 2019. Here's the thing: I could get upset, feel sorry for myself, and even complain all day long. But that wouldn't get me out of the house, or create any positives in my life. So rather than whine, I decided to think about the biggest life lessons this snowpocalypse has taught me, and how you can create Snow ANGELS out of Snow, no matter what the storm of life is dumping on you. 70: Goal Digging - Make 2019 Your B Word!
Black Friday is over and as a personal stylist, I actually avoided the shopping and sales like the plague! Does that surprise you? Many friends and family are shocked every year when I explain that I don't black Friday shop (actually for a lot of reasons), and then I explain what I always spend my holiday weekend actually doing... The Murphy duo become hermits on the weekend after Thanksgiving, seriously. My husband and I seclude ourselves from the world and take an entire day to become Goal Diggers. Now I know I didn't coin that term, (thank you to Jenna Kutcher for the term Goal Digger), but I think it is a great way to explain what I spend an entire day doing with my husband. We reflect on the previous year's goals, what big accomplishments were reached, where do we each need to reassess and change our personal/couple/business goals, and where do we see the next year taking us. Would you like to know our secrets, steps, and actionable ways to create concrete and attainable (aka measurable) goals? Listen to today's episode to become crystal clear on how to goal set, dream build, and create the best year yet in order to make 2019 a year of goal digging and make it your b****! 69: Don't Give Up, Give BACK!
Don’t give up, give back! With the Thanksgiving season and holidays right around the corner, the consumerism is all around us. It can be an easy time to spiral into a state of overwhelm, hustle and bustle, and even the constant need to put things off until the “holidays are over” and wait until life “settle down.” Are you there already? Stressed about what to give as the perfect gift, or what to buy? Well in today’s podcast, I am actually talking about ways to GIVE that don’t include a price tag, receipt, or 2-day shipping. That’s right, we are talking about what it means to truly give back. How to give back, why it is important to do so – not just during the holiday season. Is there an organization you have benefitted from personally? A group or foundation you have always admired, maybe written a check out to, or attended a fundraiser for? It is time to take things into the next phase of giving and share your personal time, talents, and treasure with the groups and communities that help serve those in need. In today’s episode, I am sharing the 3 reasons why you should find avenues to give back, as well as action steps to find groups that fit your passions, time, and purpose. In the season of giving, let’s find ways to connect us in meaningful avenues, love, and spirit This is your one-stop shop for style, fashion, health and fitness. 68: I Have Been Hiding
I have been in hiding. Hiding from myself, never truly looking in the mirror, and using eyewear and glasses to hide from the world. In today's episode, listen to how I spent almost 30 years of my life feeling so unattractive, less than worthy, and utterly debilitated by my own self-consciousness - constantly telling myself I wasn't beautiful and only seeing my flaws. I let this negative self image become so paralyzing that there were days in school that I would simply skip class because I didn't have the confidence to leave the house. Alone. Locked inside, both physically and within the constraints of my own mind. Have you ever been this self-conscious? Letting it keep you from accomplishing goals or taking risks? Listen to find out how and when I finally started to feel confident, and how YOU can take these same tools to not only determine your own self-worth, but to start accomplishing your dreams. I can't wait to share my heart through this episode with you today. This is your one-stop shop for style, fashion, health and fitness. Deidra’s passion is to help empower women. 66: It Is NOT My Fault... But It is...
Have you ever set a goal, and then failed to reach it? Rather than looking internally for where you fell short, have you then started to place the blame on others, telling yourself it isn't your fault that "x,y, or z" didn't come to fruition? Okay, we would all be lying if we denied the above. We have all had an instance where it was much easier to blame others for our own failures. In today's episode, Deidrafound herself blaming others for her own failures. Although it felt easier at the time to blame, it didn't help Deidra grow, course correct, or LEARN from the opportunity. Find out what she failed at, as well as how she's learning to accept responsibility for her own situations and create opportunities for growth in her life. How can you take the feedback from your situation and use it as a tool to learn, grow, and understand others? 64: Shave Your OWN Toes
Yep, that is the title of today's episode, but you have to listen in to hear why! Deidra had a realization that the insecurities she has in herself, are the SAME attributes she dislikes in others. Is there someone in your life that has traits you don't see eye-to-eye with, or things that bother you about them? By focusing on the negative traits in others, it doesn't make our light shine brighter. In fact, those same qualities are probably the negative, limiting beliefs than run through our own head. In today's episode, Deidra opens up about her biggest insecurity and how she is constantly learning to show grace to others, including herself. 63: From Big Game to Small Parties, Owner of Blankspace Tri-Cities, Olivia Berg
Olivia Berg - Just a girl who quit her corporate job, sold everything, and embarked on a year-long journey, traveling across the United States in a vintage Airstream. Olivia took that time to focus and reflect on the dreams she wanted to build, including an intimate event and party facility, with a natural-light photography studio, all combined with a co-working space and coffee shop, her dream became a reality when she opened the doors to Blankspace Tri-Cities. Not only is Blankspace the brain-child of Olivia, but this creative also owns an aesthetic design company and a digital media company. If that isn't enough, she also does triathlons, hunts big game, and gets down with a dirty chai and karaoke, (well at least the espresso part on the regular). Today Olivia dives deep with Deidra to discuss her upbringing in rural Eastern Washington, how she was taught to grit and grind to obtain her goals, how she finished her degree with a newborn, and even her little secret obsession with watching ASMR videos late at night - listen to find out what exactly that is! This woman's journey is inspiring to say the least, plus has a plethora of nuggets of tips for other women to reach her dreams, and how she aspires to give back to her community.
