S4-EP42 The 3G Cycle of Life: The Secret to Achieving Joy, Meaning, and Wellbeing with Dr. Miriam Zylberglait
Dr. Miriam Zylberglait (Dr Z) talks about the 3G Cycle of Life. And it’s the secret to achieving joy, meaning, and wellbeing. Dr. Z is originally from Peru where she went to medical school and practiced medicine for almost 10 years. Then, she came to the U.S in 2011, leaving her parents, her friends, and her job as an academic physician to follow the love of her life. Next, in the U.S., Dr. Z had to start from zero. Ultimately she learned a new language, and repeated her residency and fellowship. During these years, while being in her 40s, she rounded the hospital with her pregnant belly, twice. And she says it was the best experience ever. Because she was never alone. Her baby's kicks were the best reminder of why she needed to continue pursuing her dreams. Now, she’s fortunate to have a supportive husband, parents, sister, friends, and two wonderful little boys that help her find harmony between her personal and professional life. In this episode, we talk about the 3G cycle of life philosophy. Life is not linear but cyclic. And, different cycles of our lives are interconnected. And each cycle needs to be close for us to be able to go to the next one. Furthermore, all the cycles have the same basic components that represent the 3G: Goal, Grit and Grow. In addition, these cycles are affected by positive and negative catalysts that may accelerate and facilitate or delay our progress throughout the cycles. S4-EP22 Self Care for Extremely Busy People with Suzanne Falter
Suzanne Falter is spreading the word about self care for extremely busy people. She used to think of self-care as a special treat — something she only bought herself occasionally. And, back then it took the form of a massage or a much anticipated spa day. Also, she always told herself she couldn’t afford it. Because, she had children to take care of, mouths to feed and a business to run. Therefore, self-care seemed like a low priority and a big, fat indulgence. Then Suzanne’s life fell apart. She lost her business. Her marriage ended, And she moved to the other side of the country. Then, her 22 year old daughter suddenly died. That is when Suzanne discovered that true self-care doesn’t require untold sums of money. What it requires is willingness. Furthermore, self care is all about learning to listen deeply and then trusting the answer that comes, no matter what. Now, Suzanne hosts the Self-Care for Extremely Busy Women podcast, and is the author of multiple self-help titles including The Extremely Busy Woman’s Guide to Self-Care. Her essays have appeared in SELF, More, Fitness, New Woman, and The New York Times, as well as O. What is being ‘extremely busy’ and costing you? Listen and learn the 5 basics of self-care, how to keep great self-care going in your life, and more. Resources Mentioned: Facebook Group: Onward: | | y Music by Enjoyed the show? S4-EP21 Don't F*cking Kill Yourself: A Memoir of Suicide, Survival, and Stories That Keep Us Alive with Jeff Romig

S4-EP21 Don't F*cking Kill Yourself: A Memoir of Suicide, Survival, and Stories That Keep Us Alive with Jeff Romig
A long time ago, Jeff Romig was asked a simple question: “If you could say one last thing to your dad, what would it be?” And, Jeff only needed four words: Don’t. F*cking. Kill. Yourself. Jeff Romig spent his career learning the ins and outs of community as a journalist, political strategist, nonprofit executive, and fundraiser. And, through each line of his resume, he’s fought a daily battle against his own mind. Furthermore, Jeff wrote Don't F*cking Kill Yourself: A Memoir of Suicide, Survival, and Stories That Keep Us Alive to remind us that the perfect LinkedIn profiles we browse through every day don’t tell the whole story. Consequently, in opening up about his life, Jeff hopes that people who share similar struggles will see their own value, push through their dark moments, embrace resiliency, and stay alive. Jeff experienced an abundance of healing through the writing process, especially in respect to his relationship with the trauma of his dad’s suicide. But, more than anything, he discovered – and now is rooted in – three key tools that help him navigate his mental illness and his darkest moments of suicidal ideation. 1. Reduce the Stigma by Sharing: Creating conversation and sharing about suicidal ideation is critical, not only to keep the ideas in your mind from turning into pure poison, but to help reduce the stigma on having these conversations publicly with others whether in person or through social media. 2. People, Passions & Experiences: To get through the darkest moments, is to root oneself in the people, passions, and experiences that bring joy and keep oneself alive. These are the stories Jeff shares in DFKY. When you can connect with these memories, you find that you’re given the perspective needed to get out of your own head. 3. Don’t. F*cking. Kill. Yourself. - “If I stay alive, I can do anything.”: Keeping this thought at the forefront of your mind leads you into remembering the first two tools, and, is the most powerful thing to remember in your darkest moments.
