This is semifinal #2, to determine the team to face Black River in the county academic championship, which will conclude the 36th season of “Scholastic Games,” the weekly high school quiz program featuring the schools of Lorain County, Ohio. The show is produced from January through May of each year. The teams in this playoff are Avon High School, the defending hampion, and Elyria Catholic High School. which like Avon, has been taking in all comers in this year’s playoffs. If Avon wins today, the two schools in the championship will be the same two schools as last year with most of the same competitors, as both teams had majority junior class members last year. Counting last year and this year the teams have met three times, always with very high scores, but with Avon winning each time.
