Do you ever wonder how the Enneagram Types are as leaders? Join me as we kick off this enlightening series on leadership through the lens of the Enneagram, starting with the nurturing and consensus-building Enneagram Type 9 Leaders, the Peacemakers. In this episode, I will share the quintessential traits that define a Type Nine leader, from their quest for harmony to their inherent aversion to conflict, and how these characteristics shape their approach to leadership. We're diving into the strengths they bring to the table, like their unparalleled ability to see the big picture and foster inclusion, as well as the hurdles they might face due to their peace-seeking nature. I will also share the concept of self-awareness as a cornerstone of effective leadership for Enneagram Type 9, and addressing their blind spots. If you are a Nine or know someone who is (especially if they’re in a leadership position) this episode is for you! Key Points of the Episode: Exploring Enneagram Type 9 Leadership Traits Exploring Leadership Blind Spots and Self-Awareness of Type 9 Leaders Quote: “The core motivation of the Nine is to maintain inner stability, peace, peace of mind, and avoid conflict at all costs. Their core fear is being in conflict or having a feeling of not belonging, but anything having to do with conflict, the Nine does everything to avoid.” “What's great about working with nines is they are awesome at making people feel accepted and included.” “Nines tend to be blind, asleep to their own anger, which often leads them to act out the anger they don't feel or acknowledge in covert ways.” “Another blind spot for the Nine leader is being able to take in, to receive recognition and support from other people.” “If you're a Nine, it'd be important for you to give yourself credit for your capacity to understand the larger context of the work and how all that work fits in to different puzzle pieces into what makes up your world.” “You just have a natural tendency on how to create harmony within everyone around and within the workplace. Season 3 Ep. 3: Wounded Childhood Messages of the Enneagram
Did you ever look back at your childhood and wonder how those early experiences and expectations in life etched themselves into the very fabric of your being? Join me on this reflective journey through the Enneagram, where we explore our childhood experiences' profound impact on shaping our personalities. This episode peels back the layers of formative messages, unmet needs, and how our younger selves perceive the world and carve out our Enneagram types. This episode is also a gentle reminder that these perceptions are not indictments of our caregivers but rather a testament to the uniqueness of our individual experiences. Which type’s wounded childhood message resonated with you the most? I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences by connecting with me through Instagram or leaving this episode a rate and review! Key Points of the Episode: Understanding how our childhoods are all different. Enneagram types and their childhood messages. Quote: “Our personality is largely shaped by what we perceive to be true as little people. Our childhood experiences are what shape a lot of our personalities. Our personality also shapes how we perceive our childhood.” “Ones, as kids, were required to take on too much responsibility too soon. They received this message at some point that it was not okay to make mistakes and it was not okay to do anything bad or wrong, immoral, corrupt.” “Twos, as kids, got the message at some point that their needs didn't really matter or weren't as important as the needs of those around them.” “I think as Threes it just becomes ingrained in your head that you are loved and valued for what you do, not who you are.” “Fours, as children, experience actual or perceived loss of love sometime earlier on in life as kids and they blame themselves for it.” “For whatever reason, the caregivers of Fives were not responsive to their needs, so the five felt neglected.” “Sixes at some point when they were kids they had problems with authority or people, maybe caretakers, maybe it was their parents, but at some point, they felt unprotected by the person who was meant to protect them.” “Little Sevens at the time do what they do best and the experience of safety for them comes in the form of positivity.” “For Eights, growing up home could have been a place that wasn't safe. It could have been a battleground where there was conflict or constant combat was necessary to survive.” “Nines, at some point in their lives, heard or perceived this message of it's not okay to assert yourself.” “We all are walking around as just adult versions of hurt or traumatized or whatever fill-in-the-blank big children that need to be more compassionate for ourselves and through the work.” In this Episode: (00:26) Understanding that each of us has different childhood experiences. (07:27) Enneagram 1: It's not okay to make mistakes. (09:37) Enneagram 2: Your needs did not matter. (10:58) Enneagram 3: You are loved and valued for what you do, not for who you are. (13:22) Enneagram 4: You blame yourself for losing actual or perceived love. (14:41) Enneagram 5: You felt neglected in your childhood by your caregivers. (17:44) Enneagram 6: You felt unprotected by the people who should be protecting them. (19:41) Enneagram 7: It's not okay to depend on others for anything. (22:50) Enneagram 8: You cannot be vulnerable - the strong survives and the weak are eaten alive. (25:03) Enneagram 9: It's not okay to assert yourself. Season 3 Ep. 1: Enneagram 8, The Challengers' Perspective with Heather Alice Shea & Kristen Noel
As an Enneagram Eight, how do you embrace the ups and downs of having the big boss, CEO energy? How do you allow yourself to be vulnerable and be seen and heard authentically? Join me in this episode as I welcome my cherished friends and the healthiest Enneagram Eights I know, Kristen Noel and Heather, for a candid discussion on the robust and dynamic world of Type Eights. I love their being strong people in the room and I'm going to be strong in the room and you are, too. Season 2 Ep.7: Self-Defense Mechanisms of the Enneagram
Our ego is such a tricky thing that wants to keep us safe and comfortable. But this can also result in self-defense mechanisms that make us play a small role in life. There is a specific defense mechanism assigned to each Enneagram type based on their fears and what self-image they want to maintain. In this episode, I want to deep dive into each self-defense mechanism and help you understand why you do things to keep yourself comfortable and feel safe. I also want to emphasize that you have access to each self-defense mechanism, and should not be used as an excuse to not improve yourself and be your healthiest self. Do you resonate with your Enneagram type’s self-defense mechanism? Let me know by leaving this episode a review or sharing this episode with your friends and on your favorite social media platform! Key Points of the Episode: The importance of recognizing the self-defense mechanisms of the Enneagram. The self-defense mechanisms of each Enneagram type. Quote: “When I started diving into the Enneagram, it's like this realization that people are wonderful, people are awesome, but also people are difficult.” “Enneagram Eight wants to negotiate every single part of their existence, their day, to doing everything they can to squash down any kind of thoughts, feelings, emotions, or anything that will make them feel the least bit vulnerable.” “Enneagram Nine narcotize themselves, not literally, but they do this. It's a numbing. It is a checking out. It is being asleep to deep avoidance to avoid conflict.” “Reaction formation is basically trying to reduce or eliminate their anxiety because anger comes up a lot as angst or anxiety or resentment for the Enneagram One.” “Enneagram Two will repress all of their own needs and feelings to avoid making you feel that they are needy or they want to maintain the self-image that they're very helpful.” “Enneagram Three’s identification is basically what helps them maintain a self-image of somebody successful. It's like a facade.” “Enneagram Fours interject negative information, like mofos, and they repel the positive data about themselves as a way of coping with painful information and neutralizing external threats.” “Isolation. That's how Enneagram Fives deal with things. Solitude, isolation, cutting myself off from certain relationships, from certain friendships, from certain things in my life that I know aren't good for me have really, really served me in my growth.” “What Enneagram Sixes do to assure their safety and to justify to you that they're a loyal person, is they project positive feelings into the relationship or to an external authority figure to avoid rejection at all costs.” “The primary defense mechanism of Enneagram Seven is something called rationalization. It's explaining uncomfortable or unacceptable thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to both themselves and others in a way that deflects or obscures the true motivation, intention, or impact of the behavior.” In this Episode: (00:26) Why I want to talk about the Enneagram types' defense mechanisms. (03:05) A reminder about how you can use this for yourself. (06:32) Enneagram 8: Denial. (08:28) Enneagram 9: Narconization. (10:30) Enneagram 1: Reaction Formation. (15:47) Enneagram 2: Repression. They're basically like walk-in calendars.” “I would encourage the Enneagram 7 parents to really focus on being present. Real joy is in the here and now.” “If you are an Enneagram 8, I would just say maybe soften your skills a little bit, soften your language a little bit, be a little bit more flowery.” “Enneagram 9’s can be passive-aggressive and just forget to do other things and just kind of block out other things because they're so merged with that child that's occupying so much of their time. So I would just say to just be, you know, very cognizant of that.” In this Episode: (00:27) Talking about what each Enneagram type is as parents. Season 2 Ep. 4: Embodying the Reformists Within Enneagram 1's with Chelsea Dasinger and Sharona Patrice Moorer
Are you an Enneagram 1 or know someone who’s an Enneagram 1? How do you show up to the world? What are the values you hold as an Enneagram 1? I am so excited to bring two of my favorite Enneagram 1’s, my moral compasses, in the first panel interview for the show, Chelsea Dasinger and Sharona Patrice Moorer! Chelsea is a mom of two and a former elementary teacher turned leader in a network marketing company. Sharona is an empowerment and lifestyle coach. We are going to talk about everything they resonate with being an Enneagram 1 and their Enneagram wings. We will also talk about being the moral compass and the reformers in the Enneagram. We had so much fun in this episode and I’d like to know what resonated with you most! Make sure to connect with me, Chelsea, and Sharona, and leave a review! Key Points of the Episode: Getting to know Chelsea and Sharona. Chelsea and Sharona’s take on being Enneagram 1. How each resonates with their Enneagram 1 wings. Quote: “More than anything, the Enneagram has helped me so much just identify my strengths and weaknesses and really just take a deeper dive into what makes me kind of who I am.” - Chelsea “We all have this inner definition of goodness and wholeness and what it means to be perceived as operating with integrity.” - Chelsea “I can't do the injustice, so if something feels wrong to me, if it's just not right, I just can't deal with it.” - Sharona “I think it's easy for us to put ourselves in a box because we have this idea that there is a right way to do things and there is a process that we have to do things. And for me personally, I know that can hold me back creatively sometimes because I don't think about different ways to do something, or maybe even more efficient ways.” - Chelsea “I think that if we look at it from the perspective of using our strengths to bring to the table what we bring, but also being open to hearing other perspectives and other ways and other ideas.” - Sharona “I have found that it's easier for me that word reformer really does resonate because it's easier for me to come in and edit or audit something than it is to come in and create something new. Being able to embrace the idea that I am a reformer and I do have that gifting is really empowering.” - Chelsea “The whole goal is like we're trying to make things better and we're always coming from a place of good and goodness. It's not to tear anything down.” - Sharona “The people who really wanna show up and who wanna put in the effort, I'm more willing to go out of my way for. But if you're just gonna do the bare minimum, that's probably not gonna work for me either, because I just don't understand it.” - Sharona In this Episode: (01:19) Who are Chelsea and Sharona, and how did they discover their Enneagram type? (04:07) Do Chelsea and Sharona resonate with the general perception on Enneagram 1's? (08:39) The growth edge for Enneagram 1's. (12:41) Why is Chelsea drawn to Enneagram 7's? I want you to know that the wings are there to help you.” “There are two sides to a type six: phobic and counterphobic.
