S4 - E22: The Scarcity Code - Part 3
Probably my best iteration yet of how I I found my way out of the dark. I chose to share this information as an article I wrote for my younger self. Recording it and sharing it through audio with an invitation for you to come listen in. This final episode in this 3 part micro series speaks to how those of us from high stress childhoods, ongoing stress careers, now aged 40sih, can find our way out of the dark. How the nervous system is so much more than a piece of anatomy, and why #nervoussystemintelligence is so fundamental our quality of life - to everything. S4-E21: The Scarcity Code - Part 2
In this episode, this audio explores how nervous system adaptations silently shape the way we price, earn, and show up in business. From freezing at bigger ticket opportunities to collapsing under visibility, this recorded audio for my younger self, unpacks how survival logic—not strategy—often drives our decisions. We trace the five-layer Scarcity Code loop and reveal what shifts when pricing, receiving, and success stop being trauma responses and start showing up from places we've made whole. ______________________________________________________________________ Meet Shannon Eastman Founder, Researcher, Content Creator – Nervous System Economy Part Therapist. In a Who Turned The Lights On first, I invite you to listen to a reading I recorded for my younger self, and perhaps for yours, too. This is Part 1 of a short series called The Scarcity Code, exploring how survival, money, and self-limitation are shaped by the nervous system from a time long, long ago. If you’ve ever felt stuck in patterns of under-earning, overgiving, or financial fear — even after years of strategy, effort, or mindset work — this may offer a different lens with which to explore the code that was added, that we can now choose to keep as is, or replace it with something new. ______________________________________________________________________ Meet Shannon Eastman Founder, Researcher, Content Creator – Nervous System Economy Part Therapist. S4-E18: NeuroCity & BioCity is why micro moments, 3x daily for 12 weeks is so effective.
While we don't really need to understand Neuroplasticity or Bioplasticity to recover, it is very helpful to undestand its role. Maybe understanding a bit about this, will make the path out of the dark a bit easier. Episode 18, is part 7 of our mini series exploring Successful Outside, Struggling Inside - a wee book of 70 pages that is my first attempt at articulating how I found my way out of the dark, and transformed my life more in 2 years than the prior 25. Neuro(pasti)City - rewires the brain ... but why, and what is it rewiring, and where did those original wires come from? Bioplasticity is repair at a cellular level - making repair available when we stop overriding our body, and start partnering with our nervous system. <-- that nervous system has its own intelligence, that would utterly transform your experience of life. This episode does a quick tour of the last 6 episodes, touches briefly on both cities, and brings in some lived experience and an interesting lens on inner conflict, outer environment. People referenced in this episode: Dr. Joshua Rosenthal Dr. Bruce Lipton Resources mentioned in this episode include: ______________________________________________________________________ Meet Shannon Eastman Shannon Eastman is a business growth strategist fluent in both boardroom dynamics and nervous system regulation. S4-E17: Rabbits & Turtles to Help Us Stop Overriding The Body
The area I ignored most, that likely added at least a year or more to my recovery. This is part 6 of our mini series exploring the wee book: Successful Outside, Struggling Inside. Page 45-48 in that free 70 page PDF, examines pace & progress. We start by putting a few key distinctions on the table, and then examine pace for both your thinking self, and separately for your nervous system. We look at how you, hijack you. Specifically the 3 most common markers where flares up happen. The pace of self regulation being long before you become dysregulated. The cost of moving thigns faster than they are meant to move. And what the ideal outcome looks like here: a full functioning collaboration, co-founder status between your thinking self, and your nervous system. We also spend a bit of time on what that model of communication looks like. Those 8 bio items are captured as an acronym: T.H.E. C.L.I.M.B. Each of these 8 will be applied differently pending which run of the nervous system ladder your baseline currently is. We take a brief tour in and around each 1 and I make sure to add lived experience as we go, to ensure these feel as accessible as possible, for you to take away and work with right after the episode. S4-E15: Changing That 5yr old Wiring, Hijacking Your Current Reality
Episode 15 is also part 4 in this mini series, exploring the 70 pg wee book - Successful Outside, Struggling Inside. This episode recaps the prior 3 episodes, before taking a deep dive into The Rulebook installed in childhood, reinforced into adult years, that hijacks your current reality as it creates all sorts of shenanigans while it is left unchecked. Quite literally, it is like having your 5 year old self make decisions for your 40ish year old self today. We take a close look at what the Rulebook is, where it comes from, what it does, and a few ways (out of countless ways) to change it. I used lived experience, and real life examples from my life to bring the rulebook to life, and illustrate how it operates, and more importantly, how it changes. This episode is for my younger self, circa 2013, the woman whose life would demonstrate more than her fair share of dumpster fires across business, personal, financial, and physical. S4-E14: Perception? Nah its projection!
Episode 14 coincides with a lived experience from this very morning that is used to shape, direct and explain this section of that wee book titled: Successful Outside, Struggling Inside, page 27-35 You can get the pdf in your inbox by going to this page, leaving your email, before hitting submit. Should land within a few minutes. This episode examines perception as projection. We look at two nervous system states and explore how different their respective perception is. We cover how the nervous system uses long forgotten past experiences to shape the vibe of today's reality. We look at implicit memory, what it is, where it comes from, and why it matters that we consistently make the implicit sensations in the body, (so non verbal), explicit (detailed out verbally). We touch briefly on blame, how we can make a wee mess of our life, when our nervous system is permitted to project past expectations on today's reality, the role of professionals, how, when, to engage, and why. This episode is for anyone who is stuck inside a groundhog day moment... again. ______________________________________________________________________ Meet Shannon Eastman Shannon Eastman is a business growth strategist fluent in both boardroom dynamics and nervous system regulation. This episode focuses exlusively on the nervous system, tabling distinctions between dysregulated and depleted, nervous sytem states as our baseline vs the places our nervous system moves in and through, before taking a much closer look at each of the 4 states, and why state specifc recovery matters. For example, if you're stuck in survival mode - the red zone, and trying to help yourself with tools and resources from the peak performance or thriving zones, (blue & green) - it's not going to work. Understanding where you are on the nervous system ladder will give you a higher probability of success finding your way out, as you engage the tools, timing and pace that your nervous system state benefits from most. In this episode, Ruth Pearce and Shannon Eastman sit down to explore the lived experience of Nervous System Intelligence through the lens of environment—both visible and invisible. From the fluorescent lights we ignore to the subtle electromagnetic fields that shape our biology, this conversation opens up a rarely-discussed dimension of performance, presence, and recovery. Episode 10 will go down as one of my all time favourites. I appreciated the wisdom, insight and opportunity to learn from a business mind who prioritises consciousness as a tool to grow your business into the ultimate exit. There was no effort required in making the invisibile, visible in ways that land, and shift, and compel a new way of seeing. We covered a lot of ground and each had their own pause for relfection - from what is consciousness, focus, perception, their application in business, along with the idea that "how-to", frameworks and methodologies, are needed far less, when one has a good idea of who they are, and how best to access their entire human. An inspiring, rich exchange with much learning and material to ponder long after. _____________________________________________________________________ Meet Townsend Wardlaw Townsend helped generate over $1.5 billion in revenue and more than $500 million in personal wealth for founders—and he says the key to it all isn’t strategy or hustle… it’s consciousness. He is a coach, advisor, and truth-teller to some of the world’s most ambitious founders and top-performing coaches. After losing everything in his first business—his health, his marriage, and his net worth—he rebuilt from the inside out. And what he discovered is now at the heart of his work: that the exit you're chasing starts with how you see, how you lead, and how you show up. S4:E8 - Fried for a Reason: EMFs, Frequency & the Invisible Field Hijacking Your Energy with Special Guest Dr. Joshua Rosenthal
Dr. Joshua Rosenthal joins me for a game-changing conversation on EMFs, coherence, and the invisible field your nervous system is trying to regulate within—whether you're aware of it or not. Most orf us would be forgiven for feeling tired, foggy, or fried. As a society, life is different than generations before - and - we can do some easy things to shift this a lot. I invited Dr. Rosenthal to help explain the invisible reasons as to why we're more fried, and why no amount of green smoothies or productivity hacks can fix a nervous system that’s living inside constant, low-grade threat. Dr. Rosenthal helps us understand what’s really happening inside our environment—from EMFs and mitochondrial disruption to ATP loss and circadian dysregulation. Together, we map what this means for energy, focus, sleep, emotional steadiness, and long-term vitality. What We Cover: What your nervous system is actually responding to in modern environments The role of frequency, pressure, and pattern in cellular regulation How electromagnetic environments disrupt ATP, communication, and coherence The link between mitochondrial health and nervous system flexibility Why creating a coherent field around you might be a life changer for you Personal Insight & Special Mention Goes To My SomaVedic Device! Over the past 6 weeks, I’ve been using a device from SomaVedic—a passive technology that creates a coherent, supportive field in the spaces we live and work in. Dr. Rosenthal and I discuss why it has helped my partner and I. so much about half way through this episode. The results? 💤 My sleep quality and quantity improved by over 65% by week 4. I'm not sure I ever really slept with quality, before this device. 💤 My partner, who began with a far more challenging relationship to sleep than myself, for over 10 years longer than my struggle, saw a solid 30% increase in quality and quantity of his sleep by week 6. And we’re still inside a 3-month cycle. We were both big fans of SomaVedic BEFORE this episode was recorded - after listening to Dr. Rosenthal for the first 30 minutes - my love and appreciation for this device has 10x'd. Leo and I agree, we would not live life without one now. This is episode 7, Inspired by some great comments on a linkedin post I made earlier, I got inspired to riff off the comments and speak to something in a bit more depth and specificity as we all get our heads around this nervous system stuff. When we do, this gets to become leverage creating major shifts in the quality of our life - around that entire wheel (as in the wheel of life). ______________________________________________________________________ Shannon Eastman Shannon Eastman is a business growth strategist fluent in both boardroom dynamics and nervous system regulation. S4-E6: The End Of Survival Mode

S4-E6: The End Of Survival Mode
I hit record 3x as I got all choked up at seeing the truth of this headline. The End of Survival Mode is attainable, accessible and I'm committed to sharing what I can with you to get your level of understanding on this high enough that you can see it too. In this episode I start to talk inside the distinction of You, and Your Nervous System. A favourite quote I like to pull out now is that this is not about you. This is about your nervous system. It wants (needs) micro, slow, gentle done a few times a day, for a few months - to maximise the magic of things like neuroplasticity, bioplasticity - the very bits that change the program it is committed to executing. A wee milestone episode for me asI feel all sorts evoked by the headline on this one. Because after 40 years running for my life, I am in the space beyond survival mode. And I never knew that this space even existed. I was more focused on "managing as best I can". ______________________________________________________________________ Shannon Eastman Shannon Eastman is a business growth strategist fluent in both boardroom dynamics and nervous system regulation. S4-E5: Nervous System Dysregulation, Co-Regulation and Self Regulation with Dr. Abrar Hussain

S4-E5: Nervous System Dysregulation, Co-Regulation and Self Regulation with Dr. Abrar Hussain
Dr. Abrar Hussain is back to help us stand on some foundational concepts as it relates to all things #NervousSystemIntelligence. We cover the 3 nervous system states, why they matter, what creates them and how to navigate each one .I find myself asserting that our nervous system is 80% of the solution. That being stuck in a spin cycle of anxiety, tension, over analysis, scarcity and unhelpful behaviours is repairable. In my experience, long term, sustainable repair is found by working with, and through, your nervous system. CAT Basics (Quick Recap) Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) explores relational patterns—especially how we relate to ourselves and others through learned roles. These patterns shape how we respond emotionally and physiologically. 1. Nervous System Dysregulation What it is: Your system is overwhelmed—stuck in fight, flight, or freeze. Emotions are intense or shut down. CAT lens: Often rooted in past roles like criticised, neglected, or abandoned. The nervous system learned to stay on alert due to early relationships. Examples: Overreacting to small things Feeling numb or unsafe Trapped in repeating emotional loops 2. Co-regulation What it is: Calming through connection. Another person’s steady presence helps you feel safe. CAT lens: Reflects roles like soothing to soothed. In therapy or healthy relationships, this helps rewrite old patterns of fear, rejection, or abandonment. Examples: Talking to someone who listens Feeling calmer with a trusted person nearby Therapist offering a regulated, grounding presence 3. Self-regulation What it is: You soothe your own system using awareness and tools. It’s learned, not automatic. CAT lens: A sign you’ve internalized healthier roles—like compassionate to comforted. You replace old self-critical voices with steadier, kinder ones. Examples: Deep breathing or grounding Noticing a trigger and responding calmly Self-talk that reassures instead of letting the inner voice judge and criticise 🔄 In Short: Dysregulation = old survival patterns in overdrive Co-regulation = healing through connection Self-regulation = internalised care and steadiness ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Abrar Hussain is a pioneering force in #NervousSystemIntelligence (#NSQ), redefining the way professionals understand #coregulation, #relationalhealing, #highperformance and #wellbeing. As a consultant, psychiatrist, speaker and advisor, he specialises in guiding individuals and organisations toward deeper #nervoussystem awareness, helping them shift from #nervoussystemdysregulation to #resilience. With a lifetime of expertise in #CognitiveAnalyticTherapy (CAT) and innovative nervous system frameworks, Dr. Hussain empowers professionals to navigate complexity, foster nervous system safety, and optimise energy for long-term success. ______________________________________________________________________ Shannon Eastman Shannon Eastman is a business growth strategist fluent in both boardroom dynamics and nervous system regulation. S4-E4: I bombed my podcast interview. The Grip That Sent Me Into Neurobiological Time Travel
This episode examines something that happened to me (Shannon Eastman) earlier today. I bombed my podcast and inside that experience I got to see something that feels helpful to share with you. I mention my daily practice in this episode. When someone taps into an old, unresolved emotional wound — especially one rooted in childhood dysregulation — the nervous system doesn’t recognize it as the past. It often responds as though the threat is happening now. Here’s what typically happens in the body and nervous system: 1. Neurobiological Time Travel The nervous system is non-verbal and non-linear. When triggered, it reactivates the physiological and emotional patterns from the original moment, not the current reality. This is often referred to as "implicit memory" — felt, but not consciously recalled. 2. Survival State Re-Activation Depending on how the nervous system coped back then, a person may automatically enter: Fight – agitation, blame, control Flight – panic, overthinking, urge to escape Freeze – numbness, disconnection, inability to act Fawn – people-pleasing, appeasement, self-erasure This is not a choice — it’s the nervous system’s best attempt to protect the system with what it learned during developmental years 3. Prefrontal Shutdown The part of the brain responsible for logic, executive function, and perspective (prefrontal cortex) goes offline. The limbic system and brainstem take over, prioritizing survival. This is why: Rationalizing doesn't help Coaching feels frustrating “Calm down” is ineffective 4. Physiological Distress Common physical symptoms include: Tight chest Shallow breath Tunnel vision Racing thoughts Muscle tension Digestive disruption Feeling "out of body" or dissociated The body is preparing for a threat that no longer exists — but it doesn’t know that. 5. Emotional Amplification Small events feel massive Feedback feels like rejection Silence feels like abandonment Boundaries feel like danger All of this is the result of a nervous system remembering pain, not processing reality. ____________________________________________________________________ Shannon Eastman Shannon Eastman is a business growth strategist fluent in both boardroom dynamics and nervous system regulation. S4-E3: Creating Life with a Regulated Nervous System, V The Excruciating Effort That Life Was Before.
I would use words like alignment, allowing, and endless access to everything to describe life with a regulated nervous system. It's being able to meet and greet conflict with compassion and self awareness, not the absence of conflict. It's being met with direct confrontation and feeling neutral in your body. The need to defend, retaliate, or set the record straight becomes less important than having compassion for miscommunication, blindspots and stepping on toes that you didn't mean to step on. In this episode I take a candid look at the version of excruciating I have left behind, and what life is like at this part of the river. What I get to do now, who I get to be, along with the choices, the capacity and the curiosity I have now where there was once so much anger. Creating Life with a Regulated Nervous System Suddenly, there's space to breathe, to choose, to feel without being drowned. You begin to design days rich with purpose and meaning, not just merely survive them. Relationships feel safer. Rest becomes real. You move from defense to design. Life becomes co-creative — with your body, with others, with the world. There’s ease, hum, alignment — not because life is easy, but because you’re no longer at war with your own system. The Excruciating Effort That Life Was Before Everything took ten times the energy, if you could even be bothered then. Joy was fleeting, or suspicious. Restless nights. Tight jaw. The constant edge of collapse or explosion. The body was not a home — it was a battlefield that I avoided, or drank to numb. Stability was a performance but inside, it was a flood, a fire, or a freeze. ____________________________________________________________________ Shannon Eastman Shannon Eastman is a business growth strategist fluent in both boardroom dynamics and nervous system regulation. S4-E2: My Top 10 Insights & Distinctions 5 years into my recovery from C-PTSD

S4-E2: My Top 10 Insights & Distinctions 5 years into my recovery from C-PTSD
I'm taking an episode (or two) to get real about what life is life 5 years into my own recovery from C-PTSD using nervous system regulation. Kind of like a before and after as I reflect on 10 of the more obvious (for me) insights and distinctions. 1. Survival Mode Can Look Like Success You can be sharp, fast, productive — and still be running entirely on stress hormones. Just because it’s working doesn’t mean it’s well. 2. You’re Not Broken — Your Nervous System is Braced The exhaustion, disconnection, and inability to “bounce back” aren’t flaws. They’re signs your system is over-capacity and doing its best to protect you. 3. Burnout Isn’t a Mindset Problem You can’t mindset your way out of nervous system depletion. More grit, more goals, and more gratitude lists won’t fix a body that’s stuck in overdrive. And holy gawd did I ever get the t-shirt on the mindset effort. 4. Rest Is Not a Reward It's not something you "earn" once everything’s done. Rest is a biological need — and the gateway back to creativity, clarity, and joy and.. more productivity. Who knew? 5. Emotional Intelligence Isn’t a Skill — It’s a State EQ isn’t something you do. It’s something you Be. It's a by product of a healthy nervous system. Dysregulated = disconnected. 6. You Don’t Heal by Thinking — You Heal by Feeling (Safely) No amount of insight replaces what your nervous system needs to feel. Healing is about experiencing safety in your actual nervous system. That stringy bit of anatomy is what needs to feel safe. 7. Boundaries Aren’t Walls — They’re Regulation Tools Saying no isn’t selfish. It’s how you teach your system that you matter too. And when you do, your Nervous System can trust you and start to relax. 8. You Can’t Cope Your Way Into Aliveness Coping got you here — and that matters. But at some point, surviving becomes its own kind of stuck. Aliveness needs capacity, not just coping strategies. 9. Your (Body) Nervous System Isn’t the Enemy — It’s the Compass It’s not trying to ruin your life — it’s trying to keep you alive. Learning to speak its language is the most powerful thing you’ll ever do. 10. You’re Allowed to Build a Life That Doesn’t Require You to Abandon Yourself to Succeed That’s not weak. That’s wisdom. That’s leadership. That’s freedom. ____________________________________________________________________ Shannon Eastman Shannon Eastman is a business growth strategist fluent in both boardroom dynamics and nervous system regulation. S4:E1 - It's Not All In Your Head, It's In Your System with Dr. Abrar Hussain
We're back with Dr. Abrar Hussain to kick off Series 4, Episode 1 as we bring another lens on all things "40+ professional, highly functioning, not-always-ok" with an emphasis on all things relational. Here's a brief summary of what Dr. Hussain covers in this podcast: We Exist Within Systems — Not in Isolation We are not isolated beings; we exist within a complex web of systems. Internally, we have biological systems like the nervous system. Externally, we are embedded in relational systems — families, communities, societies — all of which interact with and influence each other. Dr. Hussain introduced the Rule of Thirds: You bring a third of the dynamic. The other person brings a third of the dynamic, and the space in between you holds the other third. The Nervous System: Our Internal Command Center Among our internal systems, the nervous system is perhaps the most powerful. It is always learning, constantly scanning for cues that it is either safe and can trust what is happening, or it is not safe, it can't trust, and needs to go into defence mode, and then adapt accordingly. It helps us make judgments, assess risk, and grow. But it is also vulnerable. Its bandwidth is limited, and it can become overwhelmed or dysregulated when too much is happening — especially in environments, or with people it determines to be unsafe, or not trustworthy. What happens around us directly affects our nervous system. Our relational experiences — how people treat us, respond to us, or ignore us — are encoded as safety or threat. Our nervous system learns not just from what is said, but from tone, facial expressions, body language, and presence. The Blueprint of Relationships: Childhood and "The Dance" Our earliest relationships create the template we carry into adulthood. Childhood experiences — whether nurturing or challenging — shape our nervous system’s default settings. They teach us what to expect from others, how to relate, how to protect ourselves, and what it means to be loved or rejected. Dr. Hussain explains how these patterns are reflected in what CAT (Cognitive Analytic Therapy) calls reciprocal roles — learned dynamics that we replay in adult relationships. This becomes “the dance” — a repeating pattern, often unconscious, driven by our nervous system’s learned responses to relational cues. Relational Safety: A Two-Way Street Our nervous system is relational — it is in constant communication with the nervous systems of those around us. For true safety to exist, both people in a relationship need to feel safe with each other in mind AND nervous system. This mutual co-regulation is the foundation of secure connection. Trauma and the Nervous System Trauma lives in the nervous system. Nearly all trauma is relational — caused by someone, something, or the absence of someone or something. When left unhealed, trauma fragments become lodged in the memory networks of the nervous system. These fragments don't stay quiet. They resurface as flashbacks, nightmares, emotional dysregulation, or even physical symptoms. The nervous system holds onto these pieces, waiting for the safety and opportunity to process and heal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. S3:E15 Knowing What It Means To Be Nervous System Informed v. What It Looks Like Living It
joins me () for episode 5 of our 6 part series - A #NervousSystemInformed approach to finding your way out of the dark. We do a brief recap on the #NervousSystemContinuum and its 4 states: Survival Mode, Dysregulation, Self-Regulation and Co-Regulation. We revisit how each state determines your inner world... we used me as an example so words like 'fear-soaked' insides, that impacts your outer world, which looked a lot like the need to 'defend', 'protect', 'ghost', 'chaos' and 'hide'. This episode examines the difference between what it means to be #NervousSystemInformed vs what it looks like to live this work. As it goes, we ended this exchange in just short of 30-minutes. It's not easy to wrap our heads around what life is like AFTER we find our way out when you're still lost in the dark - I do my best to objectively reflect on who I was, what I was like, the evidence my life demonstrated before this work, and now who I get to be, what I get to do, and how I show up, today. Recently, a dear friend of mine shook her head, looking me dead in the eye and suggested she hardly recognises me today. That life for me before this work was on par with a dumpster fire. I reckon 5% of me flinched recognising its truth. 95% of me embraced her, laughing, and shaking my head in disbelief at how much can change, and how much is available on this side of doing the nervous system work. I wouldn't have (couldn't have) dreamed that I could have a quality of life like the one I have now. This episode attempts to communicate that exact distinction. If you're reading this and feeling any sort of grip, pinch or shallow breathing wondering how I did it and if it might work for you too, is Roseanne's website. Her DIY program is 97 USD. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT ROSEANNE REILLY ABOUT SHANNON EASTMAN ABOUT #WTTLO? S3:E14 Jung, Einstein and Roseanne on the Role Your Environment Plays in Recovery.
We are in part 4 of a 6 part series as we unpack Roseanne's Nervous System Informed Approach to finding stable ground in ways that are long lasting. So ways that engage neuroplasticity, bioplasticity and easily accessible to you, when you know what's what. In this episode we do a quick recap on the 6 dynamic stages of the Nervous System Informed Approach, we revisit the Nervous System Continuum and its 4 key states: survival mode, dysregulation, self-regulation, and co-regulation. We recap the Inner World and how it informs you Outer World. And then dive into Environment. "The environment is the sole governing agent of the particle!" - Einstein We can change the programs running our human on autopilot by consistently feeding new information in 60-second increments to our body. We do this through self-awareness that allows us to both recognise the internal grip that shows up in the body, and the things in our environment, that when we pause and connect with for 60-seconds, release the grip. Doing this consistently throughout your day, day-to-day provides your body with new information that changes the programs. Our 5 senses consume information from our environment at the rate of 500 soduko books a minute (let's say). That information being taken in through a body locked in survival mode, will be distorted and misread signalling our nervous system that we are not-safe-can't-trust, which wil instruct 50 trillion cells in our body to animate accordingly. We can bring awareness that this is happening. Then we can cultivate an environment that deliberately feeds our 5 senses infromation that we are safe. The nervous system will then instruct 5 trillion cells in your body to animate accordingly. Improving executive function, opening up imagination, creative problem solving, all the stuff we need to be excellent at life. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT ROSEANNE REILLY ABOUT SHANNON EASTMAN ABOUT #WTTLO? S3:E13 Your Inner World Directs Your Outer World Informed by Your Nervous System State
Part 3 of a 6 Part Series, Roseanne Reilly sharing her Nervous System Informed Framework To Finding Your Way Out Of The Dark. The recap that gets us here starts with episode 1: An Introduction to the Framework and the 6 dynamic states: The Nervous System Continuum Inner World Outer World, Environment Knowing It Living It Episode 2 focuses on the Nervous System Continuum mapping its 4 key states: Survival Mode, Dysregulation, Self-Regulation and Co-Regulation. And this episode... Explores what your inner world looks like based on where you currently are within the nervous system continuum, and how that directly informs your outer world. Roseanne puts a lot into context, including: How the templates we make in childhood are active today. And how those templates operate using an If This, Then That predictive model leaving zero room for context, a different perspective or any room for anything else. Kind of like having a 5 year old directing the decisions of a 40 year old. Roseanne presents a close-up look at the Inner World when you are in the redzone, survival mode - AKA Burnout, High Anxiety, and explains how that fear based state animates to inform and shape your outer world. The Outer world is defined and unpacked to directly correlate between the experience of your day-to-day, and the fear state driving your inner world. The critical first step in survival mode being Nervous System Restoration where survival mode is turned off permitting one to now start moving along the continuum towards self-regulation. We also get to Self-Regulation - where we find ourselves with an Inner World on stable ground, that gives rise to an outer world of poise, clarity and ease. I add a handful of examples from my own lived experience, and find myself connecting a few more dots as we go. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT ROSEANNE REILLY ABOUT SHANNON EASTMAN ABOUT #WTTLO? S3:E12 The Nervous System Continuum A critical First Piece Of The Puzzle
Roseanne Reilly joins me for part 2 of a 6 part series sharing her framework on a Nervous System Informed approach to finding your way out of the dark. The Nervous System Continuum is covered as a critical first piece to this puzzle. We cover why and how we can find our nervous system inside these states, and take a closer look at the two forms of Survival Mode; the one that has you locked in and requires a nervous system restoration practice to unlock, and the Survival Mode we can find ourself visiting from time to time when we are inside the new stage of meeting & greeting our felt sense of self. When locked in survival mode is in effect, we can't move along the nervous system continuum in any sustained or elegant way. When we restore the nervous system, we can. This episode shares a bit more detail on what life is like in the Self-Regulating phase of the continuum, what is avaialble, how life is different and more importantly, how to get there. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT ROSEANNE REILLY ABOUT SHANNON EASTMAN ABOUT #WTTLO? S3:E11 Introduction to a #NervousSystemInformed Approach to Finding Your Way Out Of The Dark

S3:E11 Introduction to a #NervousSystemInformed Approach to Finding Your Way Out Of The Dark
I'm all for a self-guided, DIY it till something changes kind of approach to finding your way out of the dark. I did exactly that for the first 3.5 to 4 years years of my recovery. Actually, a friend recently pointed out that my MSc I'm doing is kind of like my version of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) - she's not wrong. But one day, by chance, I find myself in a conversation with someone who clearly articulted the pathway out of the dark for folks like me, inside 12 weeks. I don't know if I believed her. I definitely wanted to and some part of me recognised it as true but my mind raced wondering how could it have taken me the guts of 4 years to do what she faciliates in 12 weeks. It would be months before I could get my head around the fact that intelligence has little to do with recovery. Roseanne Reilly, Nervous System Restoration Practitioner has signed up for a 6 part series sharing her framework to shifting your life in pretty significant ways inside 12 weeks. We're taking it slow, keeping it small, and doing our best to ensure that Roseanne's Nervous System Informed Approach to finding your way out of the dark lands. It won't surprise you to hear I interject, interrupt and shimmy questions as I get really present to what exactly would I have needed to hear to just get me to pause long enough to hear her out. I've not quite found that magic place yet, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Hah! Here's the overview we're mapping out over these 6 episodes: A Nervous System Informed Approach has 6 dynamic parts: We are going to present all 6 parts of this framework starting what the Nervous System Continuum so that by the end, you will feel like you have a really solid introduction and a good idea of what to do next. The 6 dynamic parts in Roseanne's Framework: Nervous System Continuum: Survival Mode Lock In, Survival Mode when you are just visting, Dysregualtion, Coregulation. Inner State - what is going on inside the brain body for each state along that continuum. OuterState - what, how and why that expresses in your day-to-day the way it does. Environment - it plays a big role. We explain why and how. And then what we do to manage our own respective spaces. Knowing the approach - REcap wtih highlights, cheatsheets and a copy of Roseanne's FRamework as a PDF to download and keep. Living the approach - Why this is so different to just knowing this material. How to change your life significantly in about 12 weeks, rather than the nearly 4 years it took me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT ROSEANNE REILLY ABOUT SHANNON EASTMAN ABOUT #WTTLO? S3:E10 The What, Why and How of Boundaries - The Neurobiological Kind.
Roseanne Reilly, Nervous System Practitioner over at Hands Of Time Healing Dot Com shares the what, why and how of boundaries mapping what they look like when you are in survival mode, how they shift form when you are dysregulated, and what having boundaries in a self-regualted state looks like. A lot of firsts for me on a subject I had not taken to heart until recently. Roseanne delivers quality insights, connects dots and seamlessly ties the idea of healthy boundaries to your neurobiological markers pending where on the Nervous System Continuum you are navigating life from. For example - people in survival mode don't have boundaries as much as they have the need to defend, protect, ghost, and abruptly throw up electric fences. People who are moving from survival mode into the dysregulation stage will have secret boundaries to master, until self-regulation states are achieved. People who spend a good bit of time navigating life nside self-regulation, boundaries look and feel very different. One of my favourite take aways from this episode was learning that boundaries are neurobiological. They exist with the intention of keeping us centered, and not falling into emotional dysregulation. That grown up boundaries emerge fully when we know who we are, and have a good handle on where we start and end, in relation to others. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT ROSEANNE REILLY ABOUT SHANNON EASTMAN shannoneastman.com/resources ABOUT #WTTLO? S3:E9 Dysregulated Nervous System & Toxic Workplaces
It started offline as a challenge about using the word 'toxic' to describe workplaces, cultures, teams that were being made sick by dysregulated leaders. 3 minutes in to this debate and Roseanne and I hit record. This felt like one for the library. , joins this series as a master practitioner of nervous system restoration. She speaks fluently on the topic of trauma, stress, body, and behaviour joining me () for deep dives into the practical application of this science in business. I've brought up the idea of the toxic boss for a year now after looking in my own rearview mirror at my past self and seeing that my dysregulated nervous system, dysregulated others. Was that what we mean by toxic bosses? Roseanne says No! Let's not be hasty as toxic is a big word, void of compassion for a lot of people suffering and leaking all over the shop. We also flipped the table and looked at this from the perspective of the dysregulated employee, working in the dysregulated business and got honest about what they might call it on the receiving end of working with/for a toxic boss. Roseanne brings her insight and expertise to the table to explain what, why and how this is happening, and when we might want to call it toxic, and when we might want to call it something else. While we don't bring any specific direction to labels, and constructs, we do open up a big conversation about what is going in the workplace through, and why, at the bottom of toxic workplaces, we find a lot of dysregulated nervous systems. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT ROSEANNE REILLY ABOUT SHANNON EASTMAN ABOUT #WTTLO? S3:E8 How To Communicate Why Your Nervous System Is So Important Personally & Professionally
A Behind-The-Scenes conversation with Roseanne Reilly as we resolve how best to incorporate feedback we've received on our 2025 content plans. We have been exploring how best to communicate why the nervous system is so important to you personally and professionally. As it goes, this podcast left me (Shannon Eastman) with new take aways, new perspectives and a bit more clarity on how to package, prioritise and present what Roseanne calls, a nervous system informed approach to living a life that feels good. This is the evolution of Trauma Informed. You'll hear the challenges, the debate and some criticism of how, and when and why along with a fair bit of Roseanne and I comparing notes that align her subject matter expertise, with my feelings, ideas and thoughts on the 40+ professional who is Highly Functioning, Not OK, and how we go about marrying the two. This #WTTLO content initiative we're organsing for 2025 is personal and important. Personal becuase Roseanne and I both know life before and after nervous system regulation, and important because this information has the potential to change your life if we get it's delivery just so. If you have an opinion, feedback or ideas to add to this exploration, you are welcome to get in touch with Roseanne or myself directly on email, whatsapp or linkedin.
