INSIDE MATTHEWS

Welcome to Inside Matthews, the podcast that brings you closer to the people, places, and organizations that make Matthews the vibrant town it is today. Hosted by Jim Taylor, former four-term Mayor, longtime Commissioner, and devoted champion of the community, this show pulls back the curtain on life in Matthews, from its small-town roots to its exciting future. Jim knows Matthews inside and out, not just from the Boardroom or the Mayor’s chair, but from years of listening, serving, and celebrating alongside his neighbors. With his trademark blend of passion, humor, and down-to-earth storytelling, Jim guides conversations that highlight what makes Matthews special, whether it’s a beloved local tradition, a thriving business, or the stories of everyday residents shaping the town’s future. Each episode, you’ll discover insights you won’t find anywhere else: how Matthews has grown from a cotton and railroad town into a destination all its own, and what lies ahead for this thriving community. It’s about connection, pride, and keeping everyone in the loop. Whether you’ve lived here all your life, just moved in, or simply love the charm of small-town stories with big heart, Inside Matthews will make you feel right at home. Tune in, join the conversation, and experience Matthews, from the inside, out.

The global watch industry produces an estimated 1.2 billion units a year. With around, 7.5 billion people on the planet, that means that over a 6 and a half year period, enough are made for every one of us to go out and buy a brand new watch of our own. In reality, that’s not what happens. For starters, just because all these watches are being churned out, doesn't mean that anyone is actually buying them. Lots of people can’t understand why you would spend money on a wrist watch. After all, with just a couple of taps, your mobile phone can tell you what the time is anywhere in the world - and you can catch Pokemon on it. You can’t do that with a watch. On the other hand, for some people, one watch isn’t enough. There are those among us that hunt out, capture, collect, catalogue, and show off their watches to others who share the same passion. On internet forums, Instagram, and even at in person meetups. For those who collect, watches are kind of like Pokemon, they’ve got to catch them all. And that’s what this show is all about. Watch collectors. Not Pokemon.
