Cinema Psychos Movie Reviews

Author Brian Raftery joins us to explain how Silence of the Lambs didn't just give us a scary villain—it invented a whole new type. Before Hannibal Lecter, horror villains were mostly slashers in masks. Lecter changed the rules: he was clever, charming, and used his mind as a weapon. That’s why this movie—and this character—still haunts us decades later. We break down what made Lecter different, why he’s scarier than a guy with a knife, and how this film changed scary movies forever. Brian also shares secrets from his new book, Hannibal Lecter: A Life. 📘...

Cinema Psychos Movie Reviews

The legend is true. We watched the infamous 2003 bomb "Gigli" so you don't have to, and the reality is somehow worse than the reputation. Starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez at the peak of "Bennifer" mania, this Martin Brest-directed disaster is a baffling mix of mob thriller, offensive rom-com, and unintentional comedy. In this episode, we break down: The cringeworthy plot of a hitman trying to "convert" a lesbian mob enforcer (J.Lo). The controversial and poorly handled portrayal of an intellectually disabled character by Justin Bartha. How studio...

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here. Even though 2020 has done a number on all of us, we here at The Cinema Psychos Show refuse to let it take away our celebration of odd ball holiday classics. And no movie is more odd ball enough than the 1988 Bill Murray classic, SCROOGED. A film that marked the return of Murray into a leading comedic role (we'll ignore that Little Shop of Horrors cameo), Scrooged retells the classic Charles Dicken's story, "A Christmas Carol" through a modern parody that touches on everything from late 1980's obsession over television, income inequality, and a nihilistic view of Christmas. And oh yea it's all wrapped up in a wacky Bill Murray SNL sketch that you either love or hate. So grab your top of the line IBC towel and sit back as we dive into the xmas classic, SCROOGED.
