I am so excited to be able to share this episode with you. I’m chatting with Max Lugavere, a health and science journalist and the author of the New York Times best-seller Genius Foods: Become Smarter, Happier, and More Productive While Protecting Your Brain for Life, now published in 10 languages around the globe. Max’s sophomore book, also a best-seller, is called The Genius Life: Heal Your Mind, Strengthen Your Body, and Become Extraordinary. Max is also the host of a leading health and wellness podcast, titled The Genius Life.

Max appears regularly on the Dr. Oz Show, the Rachael Ray Show, and The Doctors. He has contributed to Medscape, Vice, Fast Company, CNN, and the Daily Beast, has been featured on NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, and in The New York Times and People Magazine. He is an internationally sought-after speaker and has given talks at South by Southwest, the New York Academy of Sciences, the Biohacker Summit in Stockholm, Sweden, and many others. In addition to all of these accomplishments, Max is also the author of Genius Kitchen which focuses on how to stock your kitchen to set yourself up for success.

I appreciate Max’s work and his down-to-Earth and actionable tips, and I know you will too.  Here here some of my favorite takeaways from our conversation:

  • Whether we’re talking about brain health, gut health or overall body health, whole, fresh foods are the gateway to a healthy living;
  • The healthiest foods in the supermarket are the ones you’ll find in the perimeter of the store (and just so happen to be the ones which don't make any food health claims);
  • Willpower is not an unlimited resource, so stock your kitchen with foods that healthfully nourish your body rather than those which are designed to be irresistible;
  • What you eat can influence how much you eat, so focus on quality rather than just on quantity;
  • Healthy living is showing up and doing the best you can every day.
