'We tend to be in survival mode, just doing the best that we can, with what we have or doing the best we can for our family, our children, or to do our job. And, you know, for years I excelled in school and my initial career and that took up time away from realising that I needed to heal.
In an effort to cope with my job situation, when I started running into the inequities that appeared in the particular field that I worked in, I found that growing my emotional intelligence caused me to have to look to my personal past and start to, (because I'm a woman of faith) seek God, seek the Lord about how that worked for me and what my path was, and it just kind of pushed me to be stronger in my faith, and stronger in the Word of God to kind of have compassion with myself where I was not’
Wanda developed her coaching career based on compassion and emotional intelligence where she develops others in the Empowerment school. Her love for people and developing others is rooted in her Christian faith evident in her mission and vision.
'We don't realise that there are different things that happen in our lives, that can be termed traumatic and when you don't deal with these traumatic experiences, they build up. Then you have these layers of traumatic experiences. When you then come down to get some help, I think I need to heal, you don't know, which layer to start with, or where it came from. I go to God to pick and pinpoint where to start…'
Key take away
‘You have to be compassionate with yourself and find those resources that help lead you in a direction to say, ‘I just need to talk to somebody’ or it can even be a group of people who shared traumatic experiences as you did, and sometimes just talking is a great start to pointing you in the right direction to healing.
