Today, we'll talk about Bergen, Norway. The FAQ is:  Julie asked: How can I pack for several seasons in the same small pack? Answer: It’s going to be a challenge if you are moving to different zones in your trip. When I was in South Africa in June, the winter weather was a challenge, as there was no heat in the homes where I stayed. I used hot water bottles in bed at night. I also wore all of my clothes. A week later, I was in Greece and gave away the warm clothes to a new friend from England. She was a South Korean, grateful. You can experiment with what you need right away and then...

Quito, Ecuador and packing for South America show art Quito, Ecuador and packing for South America

Dr Mary Travelbest Guide

FAQ:” Let’s quickly address how to pack for South America. If you are in the winter, it's summer, so you don’t need many clothes; pack light. I only took a personal item, but I had to wash it often, and I had only one pair of sneakers. No laptop. It helped me travel quickly and efficiently on planes, trains, and buses. In their winter, our summer, you should have many layers and a raincoat. I was able to buy what I needed or forgot while I was there, and the dollar was strong. On my first trip to South America, about 30 years ago, I went skiing in Chile, and I had to bring...

FAQ: What is the difference between solo and independent travel?

Answer: Readers are asking about the distinction.

Solo is by yourself, even if you’re not alone in the room. You could go to the movies or eat alone in a restaurant. That is solo. Fly on a plane with others, but you are not WITH anyone.

Independent means you are probably with another person but not on an organized tour with a guide. So you are learning about the area with someone else. You could have that person as a companion; usually, that would be a friend or family member.

Today’s destination: Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2023

Las Vegas is good in small bites. For me, it’s a Two-night maximum.

What’s there to do? A lot, but get out of town and see the natural wonders if you can.

The Strip is Las Vegas in all its glory. Think of Elvis and now Beyonce.

Downtown is less than the strip but has certain attractions.

There is always a party in Las Vegas—24/7 action.

It is convenient for a girls' meetup or a reunion, and certainly, there are many weddings here. You can often get a cheap flight and a cheap hotel room. The casinos expect you to gamble, so that’s how they make money.

This year, I visited Mandalay Bay Hotel and the convention center. When I landed, it was snowing in February. It was so windy and unusually cold that there were severe weather warnings.

My normal experience here is HOT, so this was unusual weather.

I recommend leaving the city when you can and visiting the Hoover Dam and river for camping and boating.
