Our discussion focused on recovery efforts going on city wide in the aftermath of the May 16th tornado, that killed 5 people, injured dozens, damaged and destroyed some five thousand homes and businesses, mostly in north St. Louis. ----
Alderwoman Velazquez, of the 6th ward that suffered little to no damage from the storm, moved quickly to support her fellow alder persons on the North side, who’s wards suffered the brunt of the tornado. She set up a collection center in the 6th ward to provide basic supplies, for the victims of the storm and delivered the much needed aid to O’Fallon park, to be distributed by the Action group. ------
Social justice activist, Reverend Gray and his Clergy Coalition have been busy distributing food and supplies, wherever needed and are coordinating their efforts, with the Urban League. ------
We all agreed that new StLouis Mayor Cara Spencer, has responded to this massive crisis, as well as she possibly could and has not shied away from accepting responsibility for any mistakes made, in the city’s response to the tornado, are the on going recovery efforts.------
