Download your FREE Podcast Playbook: (It’s over 45 pages of guided notes, visuals, reflection questions, and more to accompany this episode… and it’s FREE!) For years, I’ve struggled to make mindfulness a consistent part of my daily routine and lifestyle because I could not find strategies that fit my lifestyle and didn’t require adding more tasks to my already jam-packed day. I wanted the growth and benefits that come with mindfulness, and I wanted those around me—especially my students—to benefit from me embodying wellness and mindfulness, but the methods that I saw...

As teachers, we talk a lot about creating lifelong learners and shaping future generations—and that’s why we do what we do, right? But here’s the thing: without strong classroom connections, without trust, emotional bonds, consistency, predictability, and the ability to co-regulate and de-escalate, we’re actually working against that goal. Learning simply cannot happen without connection. It’s the foundation of everything. And one of the most powerful tools we have for building those connections is something happening right inside our brains—mirror neurons. They are a key to trust, relationships, and even managing challenging behaviors. But here’s the catch: to use this tool effectively, you need to master yourself—your thoughts, emotions, triggers, and energy. If you’re not grounded and regulated, the signals you’re sending through those mirror neurons might actually make things worse, not better. Today, we’re diving into how understanding the role of mirror neurons can help you build meaningful connections and create an environment where real learning—and lifelong learning—can thrive.
We’ll explore three key ideas:
1. Review Mirror Neurons
2. Build Trust & Emotional Connections
3. Co-Regulate & De-Escalate
