Childhood’s End 1 – The Overlords

I think we should rename ourselves to Podcasting Overlords.

Isn’t it weird how the word “lord” is used in a lot of sci-fi? Like Time Lords… Overlords… Lords of Time…. lords… Look this was a way better point when I started this sentence than when I finished it. So you’re just going to have to pretend to agree with me. It’s The Overlords, written by Matthew Graham and aired on December 14, 2015.

1:48: Xenogears is an rpg… or something. It’s also the subject matter of the best text-based let’s play ever made. By the way, the English translation for the game (impressively completed by translator Richard Honeywood) changes “Karellen” to “Krelian.” Maybe Honeywood didn’t get the reference? Could just be some sort of error as the English script also misrepresents the character name “Myyah” as “Miang.”
3:14: I’ve actually struggled to find an actual text quote of Kurt Vonnegut saying this, but to be fair I’ve struggled to find Vonnegut saying anything about Arthur C. Clarke even though they were well acquainted.
12:16: Arthur C. Clarke refers to “President Bush [senior]” in his introduction. Interestingly he also refers to the TV show V, which will get mentioned later in this podcast, in the same introduction as being a perfectly acceptable (to him) adaptation of Childhood’s End.
