One of the great mysteries of the Bible is not that God would love us so much that He would give up His Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins, but WHY He would do such a thing when we are helpless to do anything for Him to pay Him back for such a sacrifice.

Romans Study 33: Peace of God show art Romans Study 33: Peace of God

Emmanuel Baptist Church of Cedar Point, NC

While the phrase "peace with God" only appears once in the Bible (Rom 5:1), the phrase "peace with God" appears twice and there are conditions attached to them. We get peace WITH God the moment we get saved, but we don't get peace with God unless we LET the peace of God rule in our hearts. God will put us through trials and tribulations in our life so that we develop patience, experience, and hope. This is the process for Christian maturity and there NO shortcuts!

In the last portion of Romans 4, Paul directs our attention to the fact that the examples given in the chapter of Abraham and David's faith are given for our benefit to give us a picture of how we are saved by grace through faith without works, just like they were. The Bible also gives us many stories in the Bible that serve as pictures of our salvation and how we should live the Christian life.

When writing to the church at Philippi, it is clear that this was a group that Paul cherished and one that could join in with his rejoicing!

In order to have a proper understanding of the context of "joy in the church at Philippi," it is important to go back to Acts chapter sixteen to the founding of the church.

In Acts sixteen, the writer - Luke - gives to us the record of the arrival of Paul and his missionary team. They come to the riverside where people are gathered. If we were passing by that day we would likely not notice anything unusual. But with the hindsight of Scripture, we know that what was taking place was the unfolding of God's redemption plan.

What takes place in Acts is a pivotal part in the history of God's plan as those that turned the world upside down with the good news of the Gospel have, for the first time, brought the message to the European continent.

Listen today as Pastor Jeremy Wakefield gives us a review of the founding of the church at Philippi.
