The Real Investment Show Podcast
More families are experiencing the Boomerang Generation phenomenon, with adult children moving back home because of housing costs, student debt, career changes, or other life events. Before saying "yes," parents should understand the financial, legal, and retirement planning implications. Richard Rosso & Jonathan McCarty discuss how you can protect your retirement while helping your adult children, including household expenses, setting boundaries, estate planning considerations, and knowing when financial support helps—or hurts. Whether your adult children are moving back temporarily or...

Flattening yield curves, violent sector rotations, and shifting market leadership often trigger recession headlines—but do they really predict when markets will peak? Lance Roberts & Michael Lebowitz look at why investors frequently confuse condition indicators with timing indicators. While yield curve flattening and rapid rotations between growth and value stocks can reveal that the market environment is changing, they don't tell you exactly when a recession or bear market will begin. 0:00 INTRO 1:02 - Markets' Response to Hormuz Limbo 5:54 - Consolidation Patterns Remain Unchanged...

Markets remain trapped in a tight consolidation pattern, but the technical picture has not materially changed. The S&P 500 once again found support at the closely aligned 20-day and 50-day moving averages, preserving the current buy signal while investors wait for a decisive breakout. Semiconductor stocks continue to lead the Nasdaq as money rotates back into the momentum trade, even as geopolitical tensions with Iran create headline risk. We'll discuss why the market appears comfortable with the current environment, what could trigger a 3% to 5% pullback, and why oil prices remain a...

It's Q&A Wednesday, and Lance Roberts examines whether the momentum-driven rally in semiconductors can continue, how the Iran cease-fire breakdown could affect markets, and what investors should watch ahead of the FOMC decision. We also answer your questions on the differences between the NASDAQ VIX and S&P VIX, whether government policies continue to support elevated real estate prices, investing in Canadian companies through IRAs, the implications of a yield curve un-inversion, portfolio rebalancing strategies, dollar-cost averaging, maintaining the right cash allocation, the...

Markets remain locked in an increasingly tight consolidation pattern, with price compression signaling that a decisive move may be approaching. While technical support continues to hold, traders should be watching downside levels closely as geopolitical tensions with Iran re-emerge and add another layer of uncertainty. The biggest shift beneath the surface is in market leadership. The momentum trade, led by semiconductors, is beginning to weaken as a potential head-and-shoulders pattern develops. At the same time, investors are rotating toward value stocks and broader market participation,...

Could you recognize a Ponzi scheme before it's too late? Most victims believe they're too smart to be scammed—until they're not. Lance Roberts & Jon Penn look at how Ponzi schemes, affinity fraud, and romance scams exploit trust, emotion, and urgency rather than intelligence. From promises of guaranteed returns to online relationships that suddenly turn into investment opportunities, scammers continue to steal billions from unsuspecting investors every year. We'll discuss the warning signs every investor should know, why even experienced professionals fall victim, and the practical steps...

Markets are pulling back after Monday's momentum buy signal as investors digest news that China's DeepSeek has reportedly developed its own AI chip. Is this the beginning of a larger rotation away from the semiconductor leaders that have powered this bull market? Lance Roberts examines why semiconductor stocks have become increasingly vulnerable after a parabolic advance, how new competition can quickly change supply-and-demand expectations, and why profit-taking in one sector can ripple through the entire market. We also discuss why defensive sectors, including Healthcare, Financials,...

Does rising margin debt really signal an imminent stock market crash? Not necessarily. Lance Roberts examines why many commonly cited margin debt charts can be misleading, which measures deserve investors' attention, and how leverage should be interpreted within the context of liquidity, economic growth, and market trends. 0:00 INTRO 0:50 - July 4th Recap, FIFA Soccer, & Earnings Season Launch 5:31 - Market Set up for July 9:46 - Market Futures & Economic Surveys 12:23 - Wage Growth as a Leading Economic Indicator 15:10 - Correlation of Wages to Inflation 20:13 - Real Wages'...

July has historically been one of the stock market's stronger months, and technical conditions are beginning to improve. In today's Before the Bell, we examine whether today's trading could trigger a momentum buy signal, why price compression often precedes major moves, and how earnings season could determine whether stocks reach new all-time highs. We also discuss why a stronger U.S. dollar, stable interest rates, and healthy money flows continue to support equities, while emphasizing why disciplined risk management remains essential despite improving market momentum. Could July deliver...

The loss of a spouse is one of life's most difficult transitions, and for many retirees, it can also result in a significant reduction in Social Security income. Richard Rosso & Jonathan McCarty explain the Social Security "Widow's Penalty," why survivor benefits often leave widows and widowers with less household income, and the planning strategies that can help protect your retirement. We discuss the importance of delaying Social Security when appropriate, planning for life as a surviving spouse, Roth conversions, IRA withdrawal strategies, qualified charitable distributions (QCDs), and...
info_outlineMarkets have just concluded one of the longest stretches of stocks running above their moving averages, and of not having a +/- move in a single day; 72-days with out that occurring, the longest stretch since 1968. That all ended on Friday: We took out the 20-DMa, and had a 1.75-percent drop. We took a very over-bought relative strength index and crammed it to the bottom of its trading range in one day. IT should be no surprise to see a bit of a reflexive rally this morning in attempt to recover some of Friday's decline. Today's question is whether markets can get back above the 20-DMA and reverse that break.
