Join Dr. Jeffrey Gladden and Dr. Peter Kozlowski in this episode of the Gladden Longevity Podcast. Dr. Koz is a Functional Medicine M.D. and award-winning author with a new book: GET THE FUNC OUT: Balance Your Hormones and Detox. Dr. Gladden welcomes Dr. Koz to the show and goes over the issues they will be touching on. (1:35) 

Dr. Gladden mentions that Dr. Koz has written a book called - Get the Func Out. (3:12) 

Dr. Koz lists out five main areas he considers when it comes to functional medicine: food, gut health, hormone imbalance, environmental toxins, and mental and emotional, and spiritual health. (4:00) 

Dr. Koz highlights that functional medicine's mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects seem to be the most critical aspects. (6:05) 

Dr. Koz points out a red flag he comes across when dealing with patient documentation. (7:55) 

Dr. Koz refers to going to treatment at twenty-seven or twenty-eight and not being able to name an emotion. (10:25) 

Dr. Koz reveals that he was very traditionally minded and never thought he would be doing functional medicine today. (12:00) 

Dr. Koz emphasizes that the symptoms of adrenal fatigue can look the same as the symptoms of a low thyroid, so different tests are needed. (13:55) 

Dr. Koz explains that the thyroid gland makes T4 and that T4 is converted to T3 and shares that T3 is the hormone that binds to cells all over your body. (16:00) 

Dr. Gladden mentions that the only way to deal with some issues is to do genetic testing. (18:19) 

Dr. Koz says an area of functional medicine he was not willing to get into originally was environmental medicine. (20:20)
