In this episode of Love, Joy and Heartset, we welcome Hari Priya, also known as Anita. She shares her fascinating journey from growing up in Northern India to becoming a teacher at the World Peace Yoga School and Kundalini Ashram in Rishikesh, India.
Anita reflects on how I call her by her given name instead of her spiritual name, Hari Priya. Perhaps this holds symbolic meaning, as her story revolves around reconnecting with her roots – and her true self.
Anita begins by admitting she has no idea how she found yoga. She describes it as if she walked through a door, and the path came toward her. It felt like yoga chose her, rather than the other way around.
Born in Northern India, Anita grew up in a family with strong ancestral ties. Her father came from a farming lineage, producing food for the nation, while her mother’s family was politically active. In their late teens and early adulthood, her parents moved to the UK, where they were introduced to each other and eventually started a family. Anita was the result of this union between two worlds.
Although she grew up in Britain, Anita always felt a deep connection to India. As a child, she often visited, and every time she did, something inside her awakened. She felt an undeniable sense of belonging – not just to a place, but to something much deeper. Anita often didn’t want to leave India, as if her soul recognized it as home.
She told herself that one day, perhaps when she retired at the age of 70, she would move back to India and live there. But life had other plans. Her dream of returning came true much earlier than expected. Now, Anita resides in India, teaching yoga and sharing her wisdom with people from all over the world.
Tune in to this inspiring episode to hear how Anita found her way back to her roots and how she’s living her dream of teaching yoga in the heart of India.
