Own Your Choices Own Your Life

In this episode, I am sharing the concept of the "cringe ladder," a metaphor I recently encountered that perfectly describes the journey we all go through when we start sharing our authentic selves with the world. I reflect on my own experiences, particularly from around 2013 and 2014, when I felt isolated and struggled to connect with others amidst the curated perfection of social media. My journey began with raw and unfiltered Facebook Lives after hot yoga, where I embraced the messiness of being honest and authentic. This episode emphasizes the importance of starting, even when you feel...

Own Your Choices Own Your Life

In this episode, I dive into a topic that has been weighing heavily on my heart: the importance of keeping our hearts open to receive. I share my journey of learning how a closed heart, often shielded by emotional armour, can prevent us from fully experiencing life and connecting with others. To protect ourselves from past hurts, judgments, and fears, we inadvertently block not only negative but also positive emotions. This self-imposed limitation restricts our ability to express our true selves and to be seen by others. I emphasize that when we wear this armour, we are not just protecting...

In 2017, Kristina's late sister died of a fentanyl overdose, and...

762 | Who Are You Going to Be Today? show art 762 | Who Are You Going to Be Today?

Own Your Choices Own Your Life

In today's episode, we dive deep into the question, "Who will you be today?" This episode was inspired by a journal prompt that made me pause and reflect on how we often focus on who we want to be when everything is going smoothly, but what about when things aren't going great? Who do you want to be when things are not going smoothly, when they are not in flow or alignment, and when it feels like it's challenge after challenge?  I've learned to navigate those moments by asking myself who I want to be in those difficult times. It's about shifting our perspective from blaming others or...

In this podcast episode, I dive into the transformative power of questioning our thoughts and beliefs. I emphasize that the quality of our lives is primarily determined by the questions we ask ourselves. Instead of succumbing to negative statements like "Why is this happening to me?" or "This is not fair," I encourage listeners to shift their mindset by asking empowering questions, such as "What if it's all possible?" I share a personal story about my recent trip to Finland, where my husband competed in the World Olympic Lifting Championships and earned a silver medal. This experience was...

Own Your Choices Own Your Life

In this episode, I delve into the transformative power of the stories we tell ourselves, particularly the narrative that we are "too late" to start something new. Drawing from my journey, I share how I spent 27 years as a registered kinesiologist, feeling a strong pull towards a different path but constantly battling the belief that I was too late to change, especially as I entered my 50s. I reflect on the moment I discovered human design and how it shifted my perspective, allowing me to realize that my experiences and lessons were not a hindrance but a foundation for my new endeavours. I...

756 | How Is Shame Blocking You? show art 756 | How Is Shame Blocking You?

Own Your Choices Own Your Life

Welcome back to the show! In this episode, we delved deep into the topic of shame and its profound impact on our growth in life and business. We explored how shame, often overlooked and suppressed, can manifest as a gremlin within us, affecting our self-perception and identity. Shame, distinguished from guilt, is centred on the belief that "I am bad" rather than "I did something bad." This distinction is crucial as attaching "I am" to negative beliefs can lead to a deep-rooted sense of unworthiness and flaw within ourselves. We discussed how shame thrives on secrecy, silence, and judgment,...

More Episodes

In this episode, I am sharing some takeaways from a book I am reading on resiliency. The book is called “The 5 Practices of Highly Resilient People”, by Dr. Taryn Marie Stejskal, and I am only part way through and the concept is so freaking powerful.  It starts with asking yourself “what story would people think I was crazy,  if they knew about me?” That is the vulnerability story that builds resistance and also builds resiliency.

In today’s episode we discuss:

1)  The practice of vulnerability is a foundational piece of resilience. To allow yourself to be vulnerable is to allow your inside self, your doubts, fears, insecurities and your authentic self to be seen by the outside world.  Can you allow it to be consistent, aka, the same person? When it is the same person that the world sees, this is called congruence, so the practice of vulnerability is a lifelong practice of letting our inner and outer world be congruent with each other.

2) The more congruent we can be, the more we can actually handle hard times of challenge without burning up a ton of energy trying to do or be something that we are not.

3) There are 3 main fears that people experience with vulnerability, and Dr. Taryn calls this Vulnerability Bias, and it is the fear that if we let people see our true authentic selves, they will not like us; they might not love us; or they might leave us. This keeps us in a cage that we are in by choice, holding the key and not allowing ourselves out of.  Vulnerability has the ability to be a strength and a superpower, instead of a weakness. That is how it becomes a pillar of resiliency and a muscle we are continuously building.
