Paris DJs Soundsystem presents Vito - Selecta 02 - Nothing Rare But Essential (MP3 Podcast) 2020-08-02 About two years ago we've introduced you to the sound of Vito with a first of soulful grooves. It was high time we came back to publishing mixes more regularly, starting with a new & tasty bouquet of grooves of his, 'nothing rare but essential' all along, as the man said himself... Vito will be doing an impromptu gig doing today (sunday, august 2nd), along with longtime partner-in-crime Kant on the Quais de Seine (17h/22h, Boho sur Seine, 11, Port de la râpée 75012 Paris, info ), we...

Paris DJs Soundsystem presents Lord Echo (MP3 Podcast on ) 2019-02-16 New Zealander Mike August, aka Mike Fabulous, aka Lord Echo (and a few more different pseudonyms), is one of those unique multi-instrumentalists/producers you can't pigeonhole in a specific style, blending reggae, funk, Caribbean disco, house, soul & afrofunk — but who's first and foremost a dub artist, just like our own Grant Phabao on the other side of the world... Between 2010 and 2017, he's put out three times the same album: with nearly the same title, cover artwork & musicians, and roughly the same blend...

Paris DJs Soundsystem presents Andrew Ashong (MP3 Podcast on ) 2019-12-29 A South Londoner of Ghanian descent, Andrew Ashong is a singer, guitarist, DJ and producer who's only released two EPs so far. On a house, soul and jazz tip, those gained him comparisons with Marvin Gaye, Roy Ayers, Bill Withers or Lewis Taylor — which should intrigue already enough for you to be eager to give this mix a listen. He's been heard collaborating with various musicians such as Tony Allen, Auntie Flo, DJ Yoda, Nightmares On Wax, Theo Parrish, Hector Plimmmer, Sbtrkt, Submotion Orchestra or Swindle… So if...

Paris DJs Soundsystem presents Vito - Selecta 01 - Soulful Grooves (Wearplay T-shirt/MP3 Podcast on ) 2018-06-04 A long-time activist of the French music scene, Vito has never sold his soul to the music industry. Quite the opposite, he was a member of the Heretik crew, and probably one of the amazing guys who made the legendary rave at the Piscine Molitor in Paris happen, during the spring of 2001 (among other unreal events). A friend of the Paris DJs collective before it even existed, Vito has just always been there, with a deep and constructive sharing spirit. He recently decided to start...

Paris DJs Soul System - Wearplay LP#29 - Live Dub Session 2018 (Wearplay T-shirt/MP3 Podcast on ) 2018-05-12 Back from their gig at the Glastonbury Festival in 2013, the Paris DJs collective decided to up the game with a brand new stage concept called the Paris DJs Soul System, an innovative show blending deejaying and old school dub session, all with original tunes and remixes, taken from nearly two decades of music production. From Jamaican soul, ska, rocksteady & reggae to American funk & jazz, Nigerian afrobeat or Cameroonian funk, Grant Phabao managed to cross the boundaries of...

Paris DJs Soundsystem presents 1985, 1986 and 1987 - Standards, Versions and Revamps Vol.26 (MP3 Podcast on ) 2017-06-13 We've reached 1985 and most of music is in a really bad shape. Music marketing is starting to morph thanks to the Grateful Dead who re-invented the direct-to-fan business the previous year, but music production is still hitting an unsurpassed low, almost everywhere. It might come as a surprise to everyone following this series of mixes of cover songs all recorded or released the same year, but there's no much sense in keeping on digging for many more months through...

(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2016-04-17
Damn things are not getting easier as I'm approaching the 1980s. In 1978 there's just SO MUCH of disco in the groovy records. There's also a vast amount of punk and pop/rock released of course, but that's not really what we're about in this series of mixes here. 1978 was not that bad a year, I could list many classic albums out by the likes of Frank Zappa, Elvis Costello, Bob Marley, Little Feat, The Band, Talking Heads, Rick James, Kraftwerk, Herbie Hancock, Chic, Devo, The Clash or even Sun Ra, for example, but the main event is clearly happening on the P-Funk side of things, with great LPs from Funkadelic, Parliament, Brides Of Funkenstein, Parlet , Bernie Worrell or Bootsy Collins, all released in 1978. You'll feel it in this selection of cool covers from the year, which includes P-Funk spin off act Parlet covering Parliament-Funkadelic vocalist Fuzzy Haskins' "Cookie Jar" (later recorded by Prince), R&B/soul group The Dells covering Parliament's "All Your Goodies Are Gone", and funk band Platinum Hook covering Funkadelic's "Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On". Definitively, 1978 was the year of the P!!
