Council Woman Lori Elmore, the first elected African American woman for the city of Whitehall, shares her story of overcoming obstacles and barriers as she stepped into the calling on her life and how she continues to go above and beyond to leave a legacy of hope for the next generation of women in history.

A little bit about Councilwoman Elmore. A graduate of Father Joseph Wehrle Memorial High School, Lori earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio. While completing her college degree, Lori was employed with the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association (OCSEA), where she was able to pursue her passion of being a strong advocate representing and lobbying for the rights of public employees. During her tenure with OCSEA, she assisted in major mobilization campaigns, ie SB5, Souls to the Polls, and the Voter’s Bill of Rights, which activated thousands of public employees, community leaders, and citizens of Ohio.

In 2017, Lori Elmore made history by being elected the first African American to Whitehall City Council. She represents the citizens in the Ward 4 area of Whitehall. She is a long-time public servant and advocate, and has served in many capacities that help champion issues that impact the citizens of Ohio. Councilwoman Elmore began her public service at the Civil Rights Commission and continued with the Department of Insurance before being hired at OCSEA, where she is currently a senior level policy decision maker and the Organizing Director. She is a current board member of the Columbus Area Integrated Health Services (CAIHS), and a member of the Whitehall Superintendent Parent Advisory Committee. She previously served as board member on the Whitehall Board Zoning and Building Appeals Commission. During a safety town hall meeting in 2017, Lori recommended an Internet Purchase Exchange Location Meet Up Spot. Subsequently, the Whitehall Police department implemented the program.

Lori enjoys working with students, faith and outreach community groups, to help educate, train and mobilize individuals around social and economic injustices. She is a lifelong learner and has attended several leadership institutes and programs.

Lori is married to Clinton Elmore and has three (3) children; Marvin, Lauren, Lena and a grandson Charles “CJ.” Lori’s motto is “Love God, Love People.” That motto is extended to the Whitehall community where she believes, Together, as a Community, We R.I.S.E. (Residents, Involvement in, Supporting, Economic Growth)
