As the holiday season kicks into full swing , interestingly, it is now apparently the auction season. As, in the coming weeks, a large collection of offerings from Jim Henson Studios are on the block at Julian’s. And both the Prop Store and Heritage Auctions have large entertainment memorabilia auctions, kicking off within days of each other. So if you’re looking for that last-minute gift, particularly for one of the show hosts, this is your chance to pick up a Blade Runner blaster, Rocketeer helmet or Boba Fett’s Gun. Granted, they won’t arrive in time to be under the tree, but Barry,...

Predator Badlands is the eighth, or ninth film if you count the animated feature, in the long running franchise. Nearly three decades after Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “Get to the chopah!” these ugly dudes just keep coming back for more. This week, Dave, who sees more merit in the Predator films than most, talked Tod, who has skipped the entire franchise since 1997, into seeing Predator Badlands. The results are somewhat surprising. So, is this series, as Tod claims, a cash grab? Trying to squeeze another dollar out of a tired property? Does the overlap with the Alien universe give it some...

As per their annual ritual, this week the Regular Joe’s, Barry, Brian, Dave, Derryl and Tod traveled from near, and not as near, to attend the Rhode Island Comic Con., AKA The biggest con in the littlest State. And, as usual, they claimed their traditional sofa in the lobby of the lovely Omni Providence, and recorded live. They recap the show, who they saw, what they bought, and have a terrific sit down with Brendon Wayne, who, along with fellow actor Pedro Pascal, and stuntman Lateef Crowder, is the Mandalorian … of the Mandalorian. It’s a far ranging conversation with a fascinating...

It's a first! This week all five of the hosts, Barry, Brian, Dave, Derryl and Tod are on camera, if not quite ready for primetime, as the Regular Joes continue their video experiment. The Rhode Island Comic Con is just one week away, so it’s time to gather the team and work out a plan of attack. Begining with, who among the insane list of guests are they most excited to see, and maybe even interview. There also the usual Random Topics, a run down of what road warriors Brian and Derryl have been up to, and a reminder that it’s never good to invite Tod into your home. And, is if these guys...

This week the Regular Joes go all in on Tron. Maybe you, like the most of rest of the movie going public did not see Tron: Aries last weekend, but Barry, Dave and Tod did. And, lest you doubt their commitment, they all re-watched Tron (1982) and Tron Legacy (2010). At this point, they pretty much bleed neon. The results are three different perspectives on the three films, and a sometimes surprising rundown of who liked what. There’s also a tribute to the late, great artist Drew Struzan, whose iconic imagery, including posters for Back to the Future and Blade Runner, span generations....

Let’s face it, this really is a first world problem. I bought too much stuff and now I’m not sure what to do with it. This week the Regular Joe’s address, the third phase of collecting. First comes coveting, then comes acquisition, then, like the peripheral dog that caught the car, you have the thing and now you have to find a place to put it. This all seemed simpler decades ago, when there was seemingly less stuff. In reality, there are far more display options available now than ever before. Some very reasonably priced, If you have the space . . . it all comes down to space. If...

You can live in a fascist utopia where everything seems ideal, as long as you don’t look too closely at the uncomfortable details. Or, you can live in a techno-oligarchy, where a handful of mega corporations make all of the decisions for you with little regard beyond their bottom line. Fortunately, you don’t have to choose, because Peacemaker on HBO Max (I think that’s what it is called this week) and Alien Earth on FX/Hulu let you stick a toe in each universe. This week, the Regular Joes wrap up the first season of Noah Hawley’s Alien Earth, and discuss the episode six reveal that...

Months ago, Tod saw, and recommended Companion (2025), the Jack Quaid, Sophie Thatcher dark comedy that Google lists as as a “Horror, Thriller, Science Fiction, Romance.” On Rotten Tomatoes it comes in at 93%. On IMDB. It’s a 6.9. Recently, Dave stumbled upon it and suggested Barry watch as well. To say “opinions vary” on this one is kind of an understatement. Apparently a lot of it comes down to the expectations you go in with … like if you’ve never read the introductory blurb, or seen the trailer, you might be surprised by something other than what the studio intended. Maybe...
info_outlineFrom early images of redesigned Klingons to a showrunner who departed before the first episode aired, Star Trek Discovery has had its challenges. As the first series of the “Nu-Trek” era Discovery was tasked with bringing in a new generation of viewers and appeasing existing Trek fans. While it did not always succeed with the later goal, in five seasons, over seven years, Discovery proved there was still an audience for Star Trek. Its legacy lives on Strange New Worlds and the upcoming Star Trek: Star Fleet Academy. This week the Joes sum up their thoughts on the series final outing and its long journey from a prequel to the original series to charting the far future of the future. And of course, there’s also the usual Random Topics. Thanks for listening!
