Why is that? In this episode we’re exploring why a 100% commitment to your goal makes achieving the goal easier and dare I say much more enjoyable.   Resources Connect with Jodi Flynn on LinkedIn: . What does it truly mean to have a psychologically safe workplace and why do so many organizations struggle to create psychologically safe environments? According to research released last fall by Wiley, only 53% of individual contributors and 55% of supervisors say they feel safe taking risks at their organizations. Risk taking is a required component of creativity, problem solving, and innovation. A low threshold for risk can be concerning depending on the requirements of the job or the industry one is in. In this episode of Women Taking the Lead, we delve into the concept of psychological...

Women Taking the Lead

Most people, without training and mindset work, are uncomfortable giving others feedback. Without training and mindset work, giving feedback is perceived as a hard conversation. This is largely because of uncertainty of how the receiver is going to respond to the feedback. The fear is that the receiver will at minimum take offense and withdraw. They could also become defensive and lash out. I think we can all admit that there have been times when we avoided giving feedback for this reason. We’ve avoided giving feedback to protect ourselves, even though it would give the other person an...

Have you come face-to-face with any of the prevailing myths about women in the workplace? Last month I interviewed Analiza Wolf, the author of . Analiza’s book, and our conversation, focused on the myths we women, buy into that hinder our growth as leaders. Not too long ago, I was listening to an episode on The McKinsey Podcast, produced by McKinsey & Company. The episode was titled Interesting. Not myths that we women hold about ourselves. Rather, the myths that are held about women in the workplace in general. Then recently I came across an article by Gallup titled , published March...

Women Taking the Lead

I'm going to get a bit vulnerable here and be transparent that on the Women Taking the Lead podcast I have not given a lot of time to the topic of pay equity. Part of it is because I'm typically not working with women around the areas of negotiating salary. That may come up when a client of mine is being offered a promotion but typically, I'm not dealing with the issue of disparities in pay. And what my guest is going to really underscore for us today is pay equity is not something that comes about because women have good negotiating skills. I know, shocker. Because that's what we've been led...

Women Taking the Lead

Hello and welcome to Women Taking the Lead. I’m going to start us off by reading a quote I read not too long ago of my guest today. “As leaders in an increasingly polarized society, it's crucial that we recognize the talent within our organizations. Incredible talents are often overlooked, underutilized, or placed in situations that are bound to fail. The consequence of this is stagnant teams and underperforming businesses because our people feel disconnected. However, it's not the people who are broken; it's our organizational systems that require fixing.” That is a bold statement made...

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like you couldn't fully be yourself?

Maybe you hesitated to share an idea, express an opinion, never mind present an opposing view. Or maybe felt like you didn't belong?

And as a leader, have you ever been made aware of an employee having this experience at work?

I have Pasha Marlowe joining me to discuss the profound importance of psychological safety and belonging.

Meet Pasha Marlowe:

Pasha Marlowe (she/they) has 30 years of experience as a marriage and family therapist and neurodiversity coach. She specializes in the intersection of neurodiversity, disability, and LGBTQIA+. Pasha speaks to organizations and ERGs about neurodiversity-affirming practices, psychological safety, and neurobelonging. She encourages leaders to have a lens of inclusion and intersectionality to allow all, including those with the most marginalized identities, to be seen and heard.

In this episode Pasha and I discussed:

  • How Pasha got into such a specialized field of work.
  • How as leaders we can create environments for psychological safety to exist.
  • Shaping our words and actions to contribute to psychological safety.
  • Continuing your own development to sharpen your lens of inclusion and intersectionality.
  • The work Pasha is doing for organizations.
