The mighty and sacred Himalaya is the birthplace of some of the greatest rivers, the largest glaciers, the highest peaks and the coldest places on earth. The Himalaya is also womb of the world's oldest religions and numerous indigenous cultures. I began cycling solo and unsupported in the Himalayan ranges in 2013 and my initial cycling adventures in the Himalaya heralded my love for wild open spaces, the majesty of the mountains and the glory of Nature. My desire to explore the mountains on a bicycle set ablaze the quest for danger and adventure that just a small tribe of cyclists dare to undertake. I have cycled with all my gear in some of the toughest terrain and to different points along the long Indo-Tibetan border from Ladakh to Sikkim. The distant places I cycled to such as Khardung La, Lachen, Chanshal Pass, Harsil valley, Chitkul Munsiyari and Pelling, opened my eyes to the greater beauty of the mountains, people and culture from the slow pace of a bicycle. It allowed me to meet more people, experience their life first hand and spend more time appreciating the flora and fauna. Pedaling in the Himalaya, I have discovered that to climb mountains on a cycle is a prayer, a meditation and a true test of human inner strength and endurance which offers no medals and podium finish, but instead it is supremely fulfilling. It is a spiritually uplifting experience and also builds grit, resilience and self belief. These podcast episodes will share stories from Himalayan roads, they will reveal to you the grit and excitement of cycling adventure, the beauty and grace of the Himalayan landscape and natural beauty, offbeat places to visit and stay, showcase various people from different walks of life in the mountains who make an impact and highlight the environmental and climate change challenges being faced locally, as witnessed from the saddle of a bicycle. I hope my podcast will reveal to you what is unseen and undiscovered.
