Breaking up is hard to do. And yet SO well worth it!! - EP67 I'm guessing we've all dealt with breaking up. Perhaps you're in the midst of a breakup right now? And if you haven't yet broken up with anything then get prepared for the eventual guaranteed experience ;) I'm not just talking about the kind of breakup most of us are familiar with. You know, the significant other kind of break up. But rather I'm including ALL the breakups that can, and most likely will find their way into your life experience at one time or another. Those breakups can include: Breaking up with an employer, a particular career path, lover, family member, friend, idea or ideal, perspective, belief system, mandates, behavior pattern, relationships of all kinds, thought process, living situation, a place you've called home, etc... I can shorten the list by just saying breakups include all PEOPLE, PLACES and THINGS! And although many might call this more of a process of "letting go", I've recently realized that for me the breakup has to come before I can really begin to let go in any healthy manner ;) A few months ago I was back in my longtime homestate of Colorado, and it really washed over me that I have been in the process of breaking up with Colorado for a few years now., but for whatever reason I hadn't been able to see it from that perspective until this most recent visit. That being said, I have since been feeling a shift is taking place within and I'm now more able to embrace my new home, even though I've been here for 3 years now ;) Better late than never! This summer I headed West, back to my previous Eagle County, CO homebase, to spend 3 months working as much as possible, so as to pay off all my bills from the previous 3 months ;) I did work almost 6 days a week for those 3 months, AND paid off all my prior months bills, but I also ended up playing almost as much as I worked ;) I am definitely a LIVE MUSIC LOVER and this Summer "Tour" 2024 certainly filled my soul with some SUPER SWEET SOUNDS! I actually began my adventure in Vegas taking in 2 nights of Dead and Company at The Sphere!! I then headed back to Colorado where I I took in performances all the way from Empower Field in Denver to the Belly Up in Aspen! WHAT AN ADVENTURE!!!! Are you a live music lover? It was the first Jazz Fest after the pandemic shut the world down, and I could hardly wait! A friend was supposed to join me, but because certain places were still requiring a vaccine card they opted out. I entertained the idea of not going, for about 5 minutes, and then begain to solidify my plans! I have since fallen in love with the Crescent City!! I attended solo and have gone back every year since! The first year I attended the first weekend of Jazz Fest, last year I attended the 2nd weekend, and this year I stayed for the whole shabang :) I've released a few prior episodes: #'s 11, 12 & 46, in which I share about my experiences during each visit, and here I am again about to share all about my first 5 days of Jazz Fest 2024 AND MORE!!! My intention is to provide you, in a 3 part series, with tips on getting around, info on the place I stayed, and a peek into the many venues where I took in live music, along with my Jazz Fest specific experience ;) I saw SOOOOOOOO many concerts in my first 5 days! My mental health matters. TO ME. - EP57 I spent my late teens, 20's & early 30's in a rather unwell mental state. I was roaring through the world like a tornado, generally unaware of how my behavior was regularly harming those around me and equally harming myself in ways that had me in a viscious cycle of self abuse.Although I knew something was "off" with my mental health, I honestly didn't know what to do about it. So I drank and drugged my way through most of it, and when that made things even worse I drank and drugged more! That went on pretty much until my life hit a serious bottom on December 19th of 2000. Shortly thereafter I consciously embarked on a journey of recovery and self discovery which introduced me to the concept of mental wellness!! Since then I've been on an upward trajectory that has taken me places, emotionally and physically, that I never thought possible. One of the most important lessons I've learned thus far is that my mental health MUST matter to me! It's wonderful if it matters to others but MOST IMPORTANTLY is that it matter to me because if I'm not motivated to work on myself then it doesn't matter what others may have to offer. In this episode I share about what a fantastic adventure I've been on since making MY mental health a priority, along with sharing ideas that may be helpful to you. My mental wellness journey has allowed me to grow and heal in ways I never thought possible AND by caring for myself I've been able to be there for others who are hip to hopping on the positive mental health caravan ;) If you happen to be struggling in the mental health department I hope you hear something that inspires you to keep moving forward. Boundaries baby! Boundaries! - EP56 Boundaries? What are those?! Aren't they something you set while playing basketball, or other sports? You set them to block the other person out right?! Or don't they relate to property lines? Yup! That's what I thought for quite some time ;) Boy oh boy, was I rather surprised when I eventually learned that boundaries were also something I could set within my relationships! EMOTIONAL boundaries! What a concept ;) And even more surprising was how often I had disregarded other peoples boundaries due to my being ignorant of the concept ;) I'm happy to say I've come a long way baby!! These day's I relish in setting boundaries! The growth that has taken place within, and the countless relationships that have been saved OR ended by setting them has been well worth every bit of time taken to become more familiar with the process and most importantly has been the willingness gained to continue to practice setting them :) Join me as I share my experience with boundaries, or lack thereof, along with sharing some examples that you can begin to implement yourself! It's not always comfortable to place them... Its not always easy to accept when others place them... but both of those options are a BAZILLION times better than continuing to live a life without them. Whether we feel as though we're "ready" to start a new chapter it's happening regardless ;) Thanks goodness for the concept of "One day at a time", because that's all we really ever have. That being said, here's to a clean slate! A new beginning! In the midst of that mystical time of year when religion, "holiday" music, forced family fun, suggested excessive spending, food gorging, and expectations of being merry and bright are sort of pushed into our lives whether we like it or not. Of course there is always the option to isolate one's self away, turn off all media devices and hunker down until the "season" passes... In the spirit of the Holiday Season I'm ending my 2 month recording hiatus with a serious shot of GRATITUDE!! Reason being? While in Colorado this past October, I finally got the opportunity, AND more importantly the nerve, to interview my dear friend Alex Mintling, creator & host of The Builder's Journey podcast. EP48: Going back to leave differently. A year & a half after moving from Eagle, CO, a place I had spent 27 years of my life & a place I never thought I'd leave, I decided to venture back. My original reason for leaving was spurred on by divorce, house sale, inability to afford living there on my own, as well as a need to decompress, and so I headed to NC to spend time with my parents.Although I initially planned to head back to CO I found myself comfortable in where I was and no longer feeling the almost unbearale pull to return "home". That being said, I still had a desire to return for reasons other than just going back to see friends and possibly pick up work shifts from some previous employers.What were those reasons? I wasn't really sure. I couldn't pinpoint what was feeding my inner desire to return to the place where I felt I had lost so much. Well... now that I'm here I'm finding answers to all my questions! First & formemost I discovered I've come back to leave differently! I originally left feeling angry, sad, mad, overwhelmed, afraid, and as though I was being pushed out! I felt very much like a victim. Well now I'm going to leave on MY terms! :) But it's taken me returning to realize the purpose in my returning ;) Have YOU ever felt as though you had to leave somewhere before you were ready? Ever felt the need to return to, or revisit, a place/job/relationship/etc. that you felt you had "unfinished" business with? If so, perhaps you'll hear in this episode something that inspires you to go back and find closure so as to honestly & authentically get on with YOUR life. As of today I am truly living my BEST life! A life beyond my wildest dreams! Lessons on Loving & Dying After recently helping my little Dude Chip transition from this life to the next, I felt the deep desire to pay homage to all of the doggies I have had the pleasure AND honor to share time with. They ALL taught me lessons on loving, and those that have passed on have surely taught me lessons due to their dying. In prepping for this episode I thoroughly enjoyed reflecting on each furry babe and their impact on my life. And although the grief felt from their departure was unbearable at times, I wouldn't trade a second of it if it meant not getting to feel all of the joy they have added to my earthly experience thus far. I know I'm not the only one who has fallen fastly in love with a member of the animal kindgom ;) There is no question that we are blessed beyond measure for getting to share time with each and every fur, or furless, babe that graces us with their presence :) And for those not yet familiar with gaining the friendship, and eventual love, from the many animals on the planet: STOP WASTING TIME AND INVITE AN ANIMAL INTO YOUR LIFE :) My deepest condolences to those of you who have also felt the loss of a furry or furless companion... I send endless prayers for courage, grace and humility to those of you nearing the experience of helping your loved one cross over the Rainbow Bridge... And most of all I gently suggest that all of ya'll pet parents out there make it a priority to soak up every bit of time with your babes!! They are never here long enough. I hope my sharing inspires you to reflect on your own experiences along with the countless lessons your furry/furless family members have provided or will eventually provide you ;) All of my love... EP43: In the Hallway. I've recently been reflecting on how much life happens "in the hallway". You know, that space between one door closing and the next one opening ;) I used to find that space intensely uncomfortable, and was often "frozen" while waiting for the next thing to happen... THANK GOODNESS I've come to realize that THE HALLWAY is the place to be!! As mentioned, its the place that life is actually really happening! It is THE NOW, rather than the past or the future. And yes it can still be very uncomfortable, but that's because it's often a space of uncertainty, or limbo as its also called. That being said, my experience has shown me, and continues to show me, that uncertainty doesn't have to be scary or always uncomfortable. It can be exciting and exhilirating, when appropriate, and yet the difficult times will always lead to spiritual growth, should I opt to take on that perspective. Here's to finding comfort in the hallway! Here's to no longer waiting for the "next thing" but rather embracing the "now thing".
