203. Heartshare: Following Through on Commitments in Your Relationships
In this solocast I talk about the importance of following through on commitments. It’s basically keeping your word. If you say you'll do something, do it. Whether it's taking out the trash, meeting your partner for dinner, or attending their work event, follow through reliably. The key is consistently matching your actions with your words. Follow-through breeds trust and reliability in relationships. Essentially, partners who do what they say they'll do don't just gain trust; they earn it. Their actions give evidence that they are worthy of trust. This firm foundation is key for relationships to go the distance. “Only make commitments you know you can reasonably keep. Don't say yes to everything.” - Pripo Teplitsky Related Content: Other Podcast Episodes Let’s Talk About It! Many people have a difficult time asking for help because they don’t want to appear weak, put other’s out, seem inadequate, or fear it may be used against them at a later date. n this episode I have a conversation with my wife, Yvonne Rainbow Teplitsky. She is the founder of Artsy Goddess Studio, where she actively carries out her role in helping others and the planet heal. Rainbow is passionate about art, as seen in the upcycled clothing she creates from second-hand materials, as well as the visual arts she creates, such as murals, paintings, and tapestries. She also helps women transform through voice empowering workshops and helps couples through workshops and retreats that she co-facilitates with me. The longing to be seen, heard and considered is normal and vital. But if you don’t feel heard or understood by your partner (or vice-versa), chances are, neither you nor your partner are really present to each other as much as you could be. We don’t want others necessarily to agree with all our feelings, but what we crave is that they at least validate them. 198. Heartshare: How Practicing Humility Helps Your Relationships
In this solocast I talk about humility and being humble. To be humble or practice humility means to value other people and their opinions without indulging in self-pride. It's the opposite of arrogance, boastfulness and vanity. A humble person does not always have to prove their point, be right, or lead the conversation because they are truly comfortable with who they are. Being vulnerable and showing humility to a romantic partner can allow for better communication and trust to develop in the relationship. “Humble partners are more likely to apologize readily and accept an apology with grace.” - ~Pripo Teplitsky Related Content: Other Podcast Episodes Let’s Talk About It! Micromanaging in a relationship is when one partner excessively controls or monitors the other partner's actions, often to the point of interfering with their independence and decision-making ability It is a form of control and manipulation when it is a constant in your relationship. In this episode, I have a conversation with Cathy Courtenay. Cathy is a relational coach and facilitator. She works with both couples and individuals who are striving to find deeper connection and intimacy both with themselves and each other. She helps her clients to see the patterns of relating that are holding them back from what they truly desire. Responding to life’s call to find truth, Cathy is committed to a mission of helping uplift humanity and develop profound compassion and empathy in the world. Most of us are challenged to listen non-defensively when we are triggered or our conversations start to get intense. Listening without getting defensive is a skill that can be learned. First awareness is key, know that ourselves or the other is activated. Self-soothing is another step in the process in order to regulate ourselves so that we can listen with curiosity and the intent to understand, not defend. “If neither partner is resourced in the moments right after activation, that’s when it gets really tricky." ~Cathy Courtenay Connect with Cathy Courtenay: Related Content: Other Podcast Episodes with Cathy Let’s Talk About It! In this episode I have a conversation with Eric Ingersoll. Eric is a relationship transformation guide. He knows transformation from the inside out, because he is walking this path himself. Once a brooding indie-rock musician using sexual fantasy to try and meet his needs for aliveness and acceptance, he has since learned the relational skills that empower him to get his needs met in his real-life relationships. By cultivating a magical blend of intimacy and autonomy, he and his wife are falling more deeply in love with each passing day. They now work as a team supporting individuals and couples that want to cultivate more aliveness and connection in their own lives. You can learn more about their work at . Eric discusses how living in fantasy most of his life took him away from reality and made it difficult for him to create authentic intimate relationships. Through the continuous work around feelings of shame and inadequacy, and finding compassionate communication tools, Eric is now living a life that is more fulfilled, present, authentic and enriching. If you find you are continually living out relationships in the safe zone of your mind, give this a listen. “Fantasy just became too painful, it conflicted with reality” Eric Ingersoll - Contact: Eric Ingersoll . In this episode I have a conversation with my wife, Yvonne Rainbow Teplitsky. We talk about how to compromise in a relationship. What makes up healthy and unhealthy compromise. We talk about the elements of empathy, authenticity, good communication, balance and good intent. We also talk about acquiescing, giving in and resentments and how those play in compromising. “No one’s perspective is more important than the other’s” - Yvonne Rainbow Teplitsky Related Podcasts: Let’s Talk About It! 185. Emotional Flooding: Don’t Let it Ruin Your Relationship
Corey Costanzo is the Co-Owner of Asheville’s Still Point Wellness Spa, a licensed addiction counselor, trauma specialist, licensed massage therapist, master didgeridoo player, colleague, and good friend. In this episode, Corey and I have a conversation about emotional flooding. That is when we get so overwhelmed with emotion, that the emotions take over, so we completely lose access to the logical part of our brains. We also lose access for empathy which is a key component to transform conflict. We also lose the ability to accurately assess tone of voice as well as facial expressions and see them as threatening because we are in the “flight/fight” response. “Creating and maintaining strong boundaries is essential for avoiding overextending yourself to the point of struggling to regulate your emotions”. - Corey Costanzo Related podcasts: Connect with Corey Costanzo: Email: Let’s Talk About It! 184. Single Parenting: The Challenges and Rewards
Few parents are prepared to deal with the aftermath of the loss of a partner, whether from divorce, separation death or regardless of the cause. Single parenting has insurmountable challenges that can cause great stress and at times hardship. However, the flip side, single parenting also has its huge joys and rewards. In this episode, I have a conversation with Cathy Courtenay in which she shares her experience of being a single parent. Cathy is a relational coach and facilitator. She works with both couples and individuals who are striving to find deeper connection and intimacy both with themselves and each other. She helps her clients to see the patterns of relating that are holding them back from what they truly desire. Cathy also facilitates the practice of the Circling Method where she creates a safe space for people where they can stand in their truth and experience what is real for them. Responding to life’s call to find truth, Cathy is committed to a mission of helping uplift humanity and develop profound compassion and empathy in the world. “Creating the environment of emotional safety for your kids is paramount” - Cathy Courtenay Connect with Cathy Courtenay: Related Content: Other Podcast Episodes with Cathy Let’s Talk About It! 183. HeartShare: Change Your Reactions by Mentally Rehearsing
In this solocast I talk about the importance of mental rehearsal as a skill to change your behaviors and emotional responses. When you mentally rehearse something before it happens, you’re more likely to achieve that desired outcome. By mentally rehearsing an anticipated experience before it happens, you’re actually getting better at the skillset. “The practice of mental rehearsal builds muscle memory, the language of the body” - ~Pripo Teplitsky Related Content: Other Podcast Episodes Let’s Talk About It! In this episode I have a conversation with Jackie Dobrinska. Jackie is a teacher, coach, and spiritual director who has married two decades of mystical practices with 15 years of expertise in physical health, including diet, herbalism, and Ayurveda. She works with people to live from their truest essence. In addition to coaching individuals and leading group workshops, she is currently the Director of Education, Community & Inclusion for Ram Dass' Love, Serve, Remember Foundation. We have a conversation about body image. Are you satisfied with what you see when you look in the mirror? Regardless of what you may think, both men and women, of all ages, are affected by negative body image. How an individual evaluates one’s self has a great deal to do with the quality of one’s interpersonal relationships. How we actually embody our body is a better barameter to understand our relationship with our body’s and how we relate to others. “The first step is to be present with your own body” - Jackie Dobrinska Contact: Jackie Dobrinska Website: Related Podcasts: Let’s Talk About It! 180. Trauma Bonding in Relationships
Corey Costanzo is the Co-Owner of Asheville’s Still Point Wellness Spa, a licensed addiction counselor, trauma specialist, licensed massage therapist, master didgeridoo player, colleague, and good friend. In this episode, Corey and I have a conversation about bonding through trauma and another aspect of which is called “trauma bonding”. A trauma bond is an attachment formed between two people who unconsciously bond through an experience or experiences of shared trauma. We also hear of trauma bonds in narcissistic abuse within an adult relationship. However, most of these relationships do not begin just in adult relationships, they begin early on in our childhood and they manifest and continue in our adult lives. “Walking away from the cycle of trauma bonding can feel like you are weening yourself off an addiction”. - Corey Costanzo Related podcasts: Connect with Corey Costanzo: Email: Let’s Talk About It!
