So, do I think beta programs are dying? Yes and no. I think you have to take the context and economic climate into account when deciding the best course of action for your unique program. Do you have a following that would be understanding of any mild hiccups, and help inform your process? Times are tough these days, so there might be fewer of these “need to be first” seekers, and more and more customers demanding value with every dollar they hesitantly spend. In this episode we’ll talk more about: The good and bad of beta testing How to decide if beta testing is right for your course I think the answer here is that even with a beta program, there has to be inherent value that customers can see. Even your beta program must be of a certain quality to translate to today’s inflated market. At this point, it’s up to you to decide if you might as well go whole hog and just roll out a completed program, or if you truly feel customer feedback would be vitally helpful/ you’re not going to scare customers away with an uncompleted course. For those of us who create, and especially for those of us who create through writing, there is probably no word more frightening than the P-word. Plagiarism. No thank you. As someone who helps curate courses for various small businesses, I have to be adaptable to all sorts of industries, some of which aren’t my area of expertise. While I’m never completing a course purely from scratch, I still have to build it with a working knowledge of the various topics. Enter, research, and the delicate dance of researching and citing and outright stealing. In this episode I talk more about: How to uphold intellectual integrity How to incorporate research and others’ knowledge fairly It’s important that you shine through in your course, and that your unique personality and experiences color the program. You’re less an author and more a guide and the journey you’re taking your clients on is the point more so than the destination. Don’t shy away from research but don’t overpower your own story either. This means you can’t be afraid, to be honest with your clients, and you have to operate from a place of bravery and steadfast knowledge. The topic of paid content versus what should be free can be a tough line to straddle for some. I definitely have some thoughts on the topic, which is why I decided to dive into it on this episode. While I understand thinking that you want to put everything behind a paywall, I also think there are some specific reasons to provide your audience with free content, too. As you navigate these waters, it’s REALLY important to examine what you’re offering as part of your paid content to ensure you’re giving them the curated content that they’re yearning. A sense of belonging is the usual cornerstone of anything my team and I create for any business, big or small. Building that for a company that’s nationally recognized and huge is no small task. That’s why doing this very thing for Lowes was one of the hardest, best things I’ve ever done in terms of my career. We were able to bridge the gap between departments in unique and groundbreaking ways. In this episode of the pod I talk about how our process: Was the first to utilize virtual reality in a training context How I was given free rein to create a modern and sleek video that resonated across the board It was such a defining moment in my career; It felt like anything was possible, hence why we included a virtual reality element. Calling all small businesses! This is just to let you know how much I love you. Cause I love you, like, a lot. Sure, I started out working with large corporations, and we had some good times. But toward the end there, I just felt like a cog in a machine. I wasn’t seen or valued. And then you came around, and the rest was course creation history. There are so many differences in working with small and large organizations, but corporate just doesn’t hold a candle to the online business world! In this episode, I’m excited to share more about: The real stories behind working for some of the biggest corporations out there Why I am so grateful to now work with small/independent businesses I could really go on all day. I love that there’s less red tape. I love that I just need one person to sign off, instead of 25 investors and the CEO’s mom. I love that smaller businesses have quicker time tables and turnarounds, and I love that for my part, the jobs are so varied and interesting.
