Tripping on My Roots
TRIPPING ON MY ROOTS

It started as an idea in our kitchen. My wife, Connie, and I thought: what if we were to pay homage to those who came before, those who were such an influence to me and my peers? We decided that this was to be a visual story bringing you along on a journey to unknown places and new experiences. There is jamming with old friends and new, and we share how it is to be musicians, now, in this place and time, while reflecting back on those who inspired us to take a chance with music. We’re just tripping on our roots.

For more than two decades, I've been lucky enough to have A LOT of different outlets through which my depressive and anxious mind could explore to try to make sense of it all. Scratch that, luck had nothing to do with it. Understanding life, or at least feeling more comfortable in it, set me on a long (maybe lifelong) journey that has never stopped being difficult, and has always required tenacity and dedication. Or perhaps I'm just driven by a minute-to-minute attempt to avoid mental breakdown. Either way, that avoidance has led me to a lot of cool opportunities, some fun adventures, and, yes, even SOME answers. The luck part comes from the fact that I've been able to experience all that through content creation, storytelling, and interviewing many of my musical heroes who have literally saved me with their songs. From writing songs as the lead singer of bands, writing music and entertainment journalism, and producing digital media and video content for companies like Comedy Central, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Vice, Spin, and through a military mental health charity I started called Zero Platoon, I've been able to make it day by day with a little more hope than the day before. A Berger Joint is where I'll be sharing my past and continued quest with anyone else who'd like to come along for the ride. You'll hear Zero Platoon interviews about art and mental health. You'll hear chapters from my upcoming book, Rock Bottom at the Renaissance, about music and mental health. And you'll hear whatever else pops up along the way. Thanks for the company. Let's go.

Radical music and spoken samples carefully selected, viciously cut, and madly strewn together like the raving letters of a ransom note. Ransom Notes takes the subversive and anti-authoritarian elements of pop culture and mixes it with sounds of resistance from the underground to the streets. Heavily focused on, but not limited to hip-hop. Expect vulgar language. an agit-hop production

No Dogs In Space is a music history podcast featuring Marcus Parks and Carolina Hidalgo of the Last Podcast Network. On this first season, we're taking a deep dive into the history of punk rock, told through the stories of ten bands who helped define the genre. On our first series, we cover the so-called godfathers of punk, The Stooges. Join us as we explore the early days of Iggy and the boys as the more innocent of their drug-fueled escapades as the band tries figuring out their voice in the midst of the ultimately empty peace and love movement.
