The Union for Contemporary Art - Bri loves their volunteer opportunities! Aimed at revitalizing the North Omaha neighborhood and making art accessible to everyone with a variety of programs. They host exhibitions, kids art classes, residency programs for artists, neighborhood clean up days, and open studio days where artists can sign up to use tools like the dark room or pottery wheel. They also have a community Abundance Garden so people have access to free, healthy, fresh food in their community.
BFF - Benson First Friday Organization (mentioned) - Art shows, collaborations, events organized and promoted by fellow artists centered around the Benson area. Every first Friday of the month they host events in Benson where art is displayed inside and outside of local businesses, bars, galleries, you name it! Currently holding a virtual artist market until September.
Bemis Center for Contemporary Art - Has fresh, contemporary art installations and exhibits. Really cool, different stuff! They have an artist residency program and an internship program for college graduates to work alongside internationally exhibited artists. They also host art talks, discussions and screenings. Big event is the Annual Benefit Art Auction - artists donate pieces to be sold for charity!
The Kaneko - Hosts exhibitions that get really popular around Omaha, guest lectures, workshops, artist conferences, etc. for a range of artist mediums including music, light installations, film, sculpture, etc. They also have a research library accessible to University of Nebraska students.
The Apollon Art Space -workshops, camps for different age groups, and events for art of all different kinds including theater, comedy, dance, painting, drawing and sculpture. With a focus on the South Omaha community. (*virtual events right now, free family art days possibly starting in October?)
Joslyn Art Museum - of course an Omaha staple, a new kids area and workshops for families to check out! They also host a mentoring program through Kent Bellows Studios for high schoolers. This is where I go when I need a quiet day to myself with a cup of coffee in hand. Get lost in their exhibition rooms, you won't regret it. Includes lots of Bri's favorite famous historical art!
