Allah says: “I swear by the Day of Resurrection. And I swear by the self-reproaching soul.” (75:1–2) When Allah swears by something, it is an invitation to pay attention. Earlier, we spoke about how our inner compass has been calibrated with awareness of right and wrong. In Sura Israa, Allah says: “Do not go near zina. It is an indecency and an evil path.” (17:32) Notice the wording. The verse does not say: Do not commit zina. It says: Do not go near it.
