302 - Hijacking or Being Heard? How to Know the Difference show art 302 - Hijacking or Being Heard? How to Know the Difference

Be You Podcast

Join Jill this week as she discusses the difference between someone feeling truly heard versus someone hijacking a group setting. She uses the example of a Zoom call in which two participants dominated the conversation, going on lengthy tangents instead of following the facilitator's instructions. Jill offers the possibility that such behavior is not meant to be malicious and discusses some possible reasons for it, including nervous system dysregulation, ego protection, and general lack of self-awareness. As the leader of a group, Jill stresses the importance of politely yet firmly redirecting...

This week on Be YOU, join Jill as she revisits an exercise from in which listeners were asked to do a "brain dump" of their fears and worries and then rewrite/reframe them in positive ways. She encourages listeners to continue doing this exercise, even affirming that many people around the world are participating! The key part of the exercise now? As Jill explains, be aware of when you are speaking your fears and worries out loud, and immediately "flip the script" by saying the positive version out loud instead. Be You Podcast

Although she is in disbelief that she is finally saying this, welcome to the 300th episode of the Be YOU podcast! This week, Jill shares some highlights from the recent four-hour BeYOULive event where more than 150 women from around the world came together to celebrate 300 episodes and being themselves! More Episodes

Join Jill for the five-year anniversary of Be YOU - a special live podcast event celebrating 300 episodes of the podcast - on Saturday, October 25th from 1–5 p.m. in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Tickets are selling fast at jillherman.com/beyou, and discounted rooms are available at a boutique hotel right next door!

In her last episode, Jill filled listeners in on her upcoming 11-11-11 challenge - to give 11 genuine compliments to 11 different people over the course of 11 consecutive days, beginning on August 11th! This experiment, as Jill stresses, isn’t just about being kind or spreading positivity but is rather a close look at how we relate to self-worth, validation, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and our resistance to both giving and receiving, especially as women.

Jill explains how the true purpose of this experiment is not to “get it right” but rather to pay attention. What happens inside when you fall short of the goal, when a compliment is ignored, when it’s received too enthusiastically and you find yourself craving that response again? This episode gives you permission to not only participate imperfectly but to also allow the imperfection to teach you something.

Whether you're someone who finds it hard to say kind things about yourself, someone who hands out compliments to stay safe, or someone who rebels against rules altogether, Jill invites you to feel into what’s true for you. She encourages slowing down, tuning into your body, and exploring the emotions that come up from beneath the surface of what seems like a simple act, and she would love for you to reach out to share what you notice!

This isn’t homework. It’s not a performance. It’s an invitation to pay attention to your nervous system, your patterns, and the stories which you tell yourself about worth and connection. Above all, it’s a chance to practice being more present and more real!
