➡️ Stephenie Poris, MD, explains how she built 2 locations in 5 years and here's a detailed account on how she did it.
Hello, and welcome to "Beauty and the Biz," where we'll discuss the business and marketing side of plastic surgery.
As always, I'm your host, Catherine Maley, author of "Your Aesthetic Practice – What Your Patients Are Saying." and consultant to plastic surgeons, helping them get more patients and more profits.
Initially, Dr. Stephanie Poris went straight from fellowship into private practice. Subsequently, she learned the business as she grew.
Admittedly, many surgeons consider themselves poor businesspeople. However, this "Beauty and the Biz Podcast" guest rejected that limiting belief. Specifically, Dr. Stephanie Poris is a board-certified plastic surgeon. Currently, she operates a private practice in Orlando and Winter Park, Florida. Previously, she went directly from fellowship into private practice five years ago. Today, she has two locations. Additionally, she manages a thriving med spa and a growing team. Furthermore, she owns an in-house operating facility.
Nevertheless, her journey interested me the most. Initially, Poris lacked a large management team. Instead, she acted as the surgeon, owner and manager for four years. Also, she served as the IT person and handled everything in between. Consequently, this forced her to learn essential skills. First, she learned where the money was going. Next, she figured out practice operations. Then, she discovered how to hire and manage staff. Afterward, she evaluated risk. Ultimately, she recognized when to delegate.
Then, an unusual opportunity arose. Consequently, she doubled her staff and space almost overnight. Additionally, she gained an operating room. Unquestionably, such rapid growth brings risk. Moreover, it increases overhead and creates new headaches. Accordingly, we discuss everything in this week's "Beauty and the Biz Podcast." Undoubtedly, you will relate to this episode. Specifically, this applies if you want to grow without losing control of your practice. Importantly, Poris noted that surgeons are well-prepared for business leadership. Indeed, they are better prepared than they realize. Absolutely, I agree with her observation.
Finally, I built a quick calculator for surgeons. Specifically, you can see the value of three additional monthly surgeries. Therefore, calculate your potential revenue here:
