Tolerance - Recovered 1043 show art Tolerance - Recovered 1043

Recovered Podcast

Tolerance is one of the most valuable skills to be learned early on in recovery. Growth does not lie in an ability to avoid difficulties but in our ability to live with discomfort at times and learn how to pass through difficulties. The key to tolerance is to accept a certain amount of suffering as part of the human experience without judgment and with the critical understanding that it will pass. Our generous Recovered Podcast Community allows us to be self supporting and not rely on outside contributions.  If you would like to join us, there are three ways. Episode Sponsorship  We...

Step 4 Inventory - Recovered 1042 show art Step 4 Inventory - Recovered 1042

Recovered Podcast

The Fourth Step brings us to a specific course of action that the AA Big Book describes as “vigorous.” It is a “personal house-cleaning which many of us had never attempted.” The Fourth Step strengthens the decision we made in the Third Step and helps us carry it out. Unless we make an effort to face the things which had been blocking us, our decision to turn our will and our lives over to God can “have little permanent effect.” Tonight, we talk about Step 4 Inventory Our generous Recovered Podcast Community allows us to be self supporting and not rely on outside contributions....

Recovered Podcast

For many, the physical and mental restoration that is worked towards in recovery is only half the battle; there’s often a lingering effect of guilt and shame that also must be worked through. Addiction in and of itself is a secretive disease – and along with it being portrayed as a “weakness” or a “failing,” it’s not surprising that many in recovery still struggle with shame, guilt and stigma. Tonight, we talk about Guilt Our generous Recovered Podcast Community allows us to be self supporting and not rely on outside contributions.  If you would like to join us, there are...

Sponsorship - Recovered 1034 show art Sponsorship - Recovered 1034

Recovered Podcast

As a newcomer, you will generally want to look for a sponsor who has been sober for a good amount of time and who is available to work with someone in early recovery. A sponsor is someone who you will exchange phone numbers with, talk to regularly, and use as your guide to working the steps. It is common for sponsors to ask sponsees in early recovery to call or text them frequently, meet with them regularly, to read 12-step literature, and do step-work. Tonight, we talk about Sponsorship Our generous Recovered Podcast Community allows us to be self supporting and not rely on outside...

Forgiveness - Recovered 1032 show art Forgiveness - Recovered 1032

Recovered Podcast

Regardless of how much time has passed since you were harmed or wronged by someone, it can be challenging to genuinely forgive. However, forgiveness is an integral part of addiction recovery, and being able to set aside past hurts is an important aspect of long-term treatment. The person holding a grudge is almost always the person most negatively affected by it, and that not being able to let go of old frustrations can lead to relapses. While it may take significant time and effort, and may require the help of a counselor trained in forgiveness, letting go of past hurts is critical for...

Practicing humility in your recovery makes you teachable,

Practicing humility makes you a better listener and it allows you to examine yourself without shame or judgment.

The hardest thing about practicing humility is that most of us want to feel that we have some kind of power or importance in our own lives. Lowering our importance goes against what is natural to us.

Humility is not low self-esteem.

Humility means taking credit for what you are responsible for and giving credit for what you are not responsible for.

Humility means learning from others.

Tonight, we talk about Humility

First to mind?

What comes first to mind?

Where do you want to start?

When you were new, what was your opinion of humility?

What is your understanding now?

What does humility look like for you in a practical way?

Why is humility important to you?

How has your attitude toward humility changed during your time in program?

How did you learn about humility?

What steps helped?

What prayers helped?

How did the fellowship help?

How did your sponsor help?

How does your higher power help?

What is the difference between humility and humiliation?

Why is pride dangerous?

Why is pride bad for your recovery?

When is pride good?

When does pride cross the line from something that is ok to something that threatens sobriety?

How do you know when pride is moving into dangerous territory for you recovery?
