David Greenwalt is here today to discuss how he helps people learn the truth about mental fitness, nutrition and movement. Obesity is at its highest level ever, with about 40 percent of U.S. adults considered obese. The cause of obesity, he believes, can be broken down into four drivers. One: biological drives, we are driven to calorie dense foods to avoid food scarcity that evolution has built in us. Two: habit condition automatic responses, we use food to change our mental state so that we feel relief, checked out and relaxed. Three: addiction to ultra-processed food.  And the fourth driver is our obese genetic environment. These are all external forces that promote obesity: fast food restaurants, proximity, convenience marts, access, opportunity for less activities, parental modeling, marketing, and government subsidies.

By becoming more aware of these factors, we can learn to implement strategies to have a different response.  Sometimes we need someone else to help us become aware of our subconscious behaviors. If we are aware and are able to catch the behavior as soon as it happens, we can begin to lay down a new healthier path. When you have the support and education, real strategies can win against the external factors and be able to put behaviors in place to lose the weight for the last time.

With us today is Certified Wellness Coach, fitness expert, and author David Greenwalt. A husband, father, former police officer, gym owner, competitive state-level bodybuilder, and powerlifter. In 1997, at age 32 and a body weight of 235 pounds, David discovered an evidence-based approach for getting off his own 50 excess pounds and keeping it off for 25 years and counting. Since 1999, through his company Leanness Lifestyle University, David has been helping student members, from every walk of life, get the truth, and strategies, to lose excess fat one more time for the last time.
