15: Why are the dishes in the dryer? (meltdowns, breakthroughs, and lists of big ass dreams)
It’s my birthday episode, and surprise — I’m crying on the mic. (We love consistency.) This week, I sat down to reflect on turning 36 and ended up sharing one of the most raw, unfiltered episodes I’ve ever recorded. I talk about the emotional breakdown that took me out, the four-day cry I didn’t see coming, and the weird metaphor that floated into my brain mid-spiral: why are the dishes in the dryer? If your life has been feeling loud, messy, and absurd in ways you can’t even explain — same. I’m right there with you. But also? I’m still becoming. Still dreaming. Still choosing softness and truth even when everything feels like it’s breaking. In this episode, I share: What the hell I went through and what that dishes line means 12 reminders that life is still beautiful (even when it’s chaotic) 12 things I’m still learning (and fumbling through) My "Hell Yeah, Why Not!" list (aka, the big wild dreams that light me the hell up) A birthday toast to the version of me I’m becoming This is not your typical polished “birthday wisdom” episode. It’s soft, sacred, chaotic, and very me. If you’ve ever looked around and thought, “nothing’s where it’s supposed to be,” I made this for you. How does infertility shape your identity? How about as a Black woman? In this close-to-home interview on motherhood differently, I sit down with my cousin Porsha Glover to have a powerful conversation about IVF, infertility, and what it means to become a mother as a Black woman navigating infertility. In case you're wondering, here's a quick note on what's going on at the moment. I hope it's a nice, little reminder that it's ok and absolutely necessary to give yourself grace, to take a step back when things get a little heavy and overwhelming, even in the best of ways.

05: Navigating Grief + Overwhelming Emotions
Today’s episode was completely unexpected, but so is the nature of grief, right? Grief isn’t linear and it’s not always the most predictable thing. As waves of grief have come over me lately, I decided to sit and share my experience in the midst of things. I open up about the grief of losing my brother, Xavier, the emotions that have been surfacing lately, and some of some of the things currently helping me through. This isn’t just about sadness—it’s about regret, guilt, and the struggle of holding space for emotions that feel too big to bear. This episode is an invitation to explore grief at your own pace, to set down the weight even momentarily, and to recognize that you are not alone in this experience. A Preview of What’s in This Episode: The slow, heavy grief that doesn’t move on a specific timeline The guilt and regret that come with sibling loss The fear of fully feeling grief—and how you can try to navigate it Why putting boundaries on grief can help you process overwhelming emotions The weight of being the eldest after losing a sibling Resources & Links: Read the blog post: by Annie Sclaver Orenstein Follow a life differently on Instagram: Love the Show? 04: Why you can't fix others (and what to do instead)
Ever had a life-changing realization, teaching, or a-ha moment and felt the urge to share it with someone only to be met with resistance? Let’s talk about the deep desire to “fix” others (especially when we’re in the early stages of our growth and healing journey), why it often backfires, and what we can do instead to actually help those we love. If you’ve ever struggled with watching loved ones stay stuck while you grow, this episode is for you. What to expect here: Why we feel the urge to fix others The hidden fears behind this impulse (eldest sibling syndrome, fear of outgrowing people, etc.) How trying to change people can create distance instead of connection What to do instead—practical, heart-centered approaches The power of leading by example (and how it creates real transformation) Resources & Links: Read the blog post: Follow on Instagram Love the Show? 02: Good Vibes Only? Let's talk about it
We’ve all seen it: Good. Vibes. Only. It sounds uplifting, it’s embroidered on pillows, but does it actually help the way we think it does? In this “Let’s talk about it” episode, I share a bit of my ranty side with you as I unpack the real effects of GVO—how it suppresses emotions and hinders true healing, especially in communities of color. And don’t get me wrong, I used to be a toxic positivity queen myself. So, let’s get into it. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Why "Good Vibes Only" can be toxic rather than uplifting How avoiding our emotions impacts true healing A simple 90-second practice to process emotions instead of burying them Resources & Links: Read the Blog Post: Follow me on Instagram: @alifedifferently Website: www.alifedifferently.com Love the Show? 01: Who do you think you aren't?
Have you ever felt like the life you actually want isn’t possible for you? Like there’s some invisible barrier between you and the things you desire? If so, you’re not alone. In our first episode, we’re diving into a question that really got me: Who do you think you aren’t? Inspired by a moment of deep self-awareness, I explore how the beliefs we carry—often without even realizing it—shape our reality and keep us from going after what we truly desire. This episode is for you if you’ve ever felt: Like your dreams were too big or too unrealistic Torn between what you’re “supposed” to want and what actually feels aligned Stuck in a cycle of limiting beliefs that hold you back If you’ve ever wondered what’s keeping you from stepping into your fullest, most authentic life, this episode is for you. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Why the subconscious mind answers the questions we ask—whether we realize it or not How societal conditioning shapes our beliefs about worthiness, love, and success A simple yet powerful question to help you uncover hidden limitations Resources & Mentions from the Episode: Read the Blog Post: Connect with me on Instagram: Email me: by by of and the Love the Show?
