Episode 31: 3 ways to create a positive workplace culture
In all my guest interviews, I ask the experts and leaders what their business wellbeing looks like. How do they check wellbeing is part of the culture and how do they keep it at the heart of their business? The answers are all different- and yet fundamentally the same. So I thought I’d share with you what the common secret sauce is and how you can check what the wellbeing status of your business is. Interestingly, recent research conducted at C-Suite level by Deloitte showed how important the culture is when it comes to wellbeing and how businesses can often get it wrong and think they are doing a great job when they aren't. Only 47% of workers believe their executives understand how difficult the pandemic has been for them, yet 90% of the C-suite say they do recognize how challenging it’s been I won’t give it all away here - in this episode I talk about: The 3 clear ways to check if wellbeing is a part of the culture How to get into the heads of your employees and find out what they are thinking about wellbeing Why anonymous polls are a great way to do a temperature check of the business The real impact of presenteeism on businesses, and it’s not just financial What happens when you get all 3 steps right If you love this episode, I’m hosting a free webinar on Wednesday 19th October on this subject to share 3 ways you can boost your personal wellbeing and 3 ways you can start building the wellbeing wealth of your business. It’s for business owners who want to create happier workplaces and for people within those businesses that want to support their work culture and improve their own wellbeing at work. Episode 28: A healthy mind means good business
In this episode the brilliant Jackie Shears joins me to share her personal experiences of mental stress in the workplace and how it led to her becoming a Mental Health Instructor and creating - supporting teams to be mentally healthy. We chat about: How a data driven role in the NHS led Jackie to the work she does today Who is responsible for wellbeing in the business How organisations can REALLY support their people (it’s not with fresh fruit and yoga) Why Jackie was awarded an OBE and what it means to her and her work Some advice to businesses and individuals who want to encourage wellbeing in their workplace About Jackie… Jackie Shears spent 30 in the public sector, including 20 years in various senior roles in the NHS. In that time she experienced the highs and lows good and poor workplace cultures, all the while believing she was superwoman and could rise above anything. A sustained spell of high stress taught her she was, in fact, only human, and gave her an object lesson in what poor mental health really means, feels like and does to you. After 3 months on sick leave and lots of subsequent learning, she trained as a mental health first aider, then as a mental health first aid instructor. Recognising these are valuable additions to a healthy workplace culture – but not the whole answer, she also provides support to design and develop Mental Health strategies for organisations and also delivers bespoke training aimed at building line manager capability to understand and manage their teams in a Mentally Health way. Episode 27: Do the things you love (even when you really don’t feel like it)
In this second part of my reflections, I go into more depth of pushing through but not through work! Persevering with the things we know we love doing - even and especially when we don’t feel like it. A big realisation for me over the past few months is that one of my core values is connection. Yet when I've not been feeling myself I've done the classic thing of hiding myself away. And while it's been restorative to heal and get better in the quiet of my own head it's also meant I've not allowed the one thing I know to really lift me. I’ll be digging into: Why we shy away from the things we know are good for us The tricks our brain plays on us to keep us safe How positive connections can help us feel happier Why we need to do the things we love especially when we aren’t in the mood! Listen in and let me know - what’s the one thing you LOVE doing but let slip, and what commitment can you make TODAY to bring it back into your life?
