#202 Dr Teimojin Tan on survival skills, medicine and how to survive being alone!
Today’s guest is Dr Teimojin Tan! Listen to the show at Teimojin grew up in Montreal and had a very worldly upbringing. From taking his first steps on a plane as a child to solo traveling through developing countries in his youth, he was never one to feel stuck in one place. Through his travels, he developed a fascination and appreciation for indigenous cultures. As he learned about plant-based medicines, survival, hunting tactics, and local customs, he was also exposed to the health disparities and challenges facing impoverished communities. Seeing people in need and feeling helpless to render aid inspired him to work for non-profit organizations in South America, Ghana, and East Africa and to pursue a higher education. But coming from a single-parent household, he wanted to be financially independent so at the age of 17, Teimojin joined the Canadian Army Reserve as an Infantry soldier. He took a special interest in Cold Weather Warfare & Survival and would spend weeks to months in the Subarctic learning how to make improvised defenses, conduct patrols, assaults, search and rescue missions, and employ strategies to procure food and shelter that he learned from the native Cree Rangers. Eventually, Teimojin found his way to medical school at Michigan State University and became a doctor. Now, he is a full-time ER doctor working in rural Maine and teaches Survival Medicine in his free time. These contrasting experiences in fighting and healing, with a healthy obsession with survival and the outdoors, led him to specialize in Wilderness Medicine. Teimojin’s dream is to teach Survival Medicine internationally while working as a physician in underserved indigenous communities and being involved in community development projects. Teimojin started Survival Doctors™ to teach people how to prepare for medical emergencies in survival situations. He hopes to share his unique perspective on medicine so that others can venture out in the wild confidently and safely. Partnered with other medical professionals, military veterans, survival experts, and search and rescue specialists, Survival Doctors™ offers an educational experience like no other. #drteimojintan #nextlevelguy #podcast #survivalskills #medicine #saveyourself #alonetvshow #medicalemergencies #survivaldoctors #survivalmedicine #creerangers #canadianarmy #military #doctor #er

Episode #186 Roger Gracie on finding yourself through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!
Today’s guest is Roger Gracie! Roger Gracie is a retired mixed martial artist and former professional Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitor. He was one of the first people that taught me that you can build your own game by being yourself and not following what is currently the favourite of people that year! The son of coral belt Mauricio Gomes and grandson of BJJ founder Carlos Gracie, Roger Gracie is one of jiu-jitsu's most decorated and accomplished athletes and considered by many as the greatest competitor in jiu-jitsu history. He taps black-belts with white-belt techniques, making it look effortless. His skill level is terrifying, and his ability to read the action borders on almost being able to see the future. A member of both IBJJF Hall of Fame and ADCC Hall of Fame, Gracie won 10 IBJJF world championship titles across multiple weight classes, every year from 2004 to 2010, becoming the first competitor to win the open weight division 3 times. He is also a two-time European Champion, and a Pan Champion. Gracie is an ADCC Submission Fighting weight, absolute, and superfight champion, the only athlete to win gold in both his weight class and the open weight division with a 100% submission-rate. Roger retired in 2017 after defeating then BJJ world champion Marcus Buchecha, leaving jiu-jitsu without a single submission defeat in his record. He now spends his time coaching and inspiring the future generations of BJJ stars and helping the sport reach new levels. In this interview, we discuss how he transformed from meh to master ability, how he found himself through the sport, how you should approach BJJ to see greater development and why it doesn't matter your age or ability, you can excel and grow through BJJ.

Episode #180 Dr Cordelia Peel on On becoming unstuck and living your healthiest happiest life!
07/22/2023
Episode #180 Dr Cordelia Peel on On becoming unstuck and living your healthiest happiest life!
Today’s guest is Dr Cordelia Peel! Cordelia has been a medical doctor for over a decade working in acute specialties including emergency medicine, trauma and stroke. Her medical training enabled her to work in South America where she trekked up mountains, slept in a hammock and delivered medical care to local indigenous people, and also in Zimbabwe, where she carried our research to facilitate CRADLE (Community Blood Pressure Monitoring in Rural Africa; Detection of Underlying Pre-eclampsia) which has now taken off in over 10 countries with the purpose of reducing maternal mortality and morbidity. Whilst Cordelia loved aspects of being a doctor, deep down she wasn’t feeling deeply fulfilled or having the impact in the world that she desired. She was aware that there was something more to her, that she wasn’t fulfilling her true potential or living the kind of lifestyle she wanted to. As a consequence of being stuck for some years, Cordelia suffered from high-functioning depression and eventually found herself on the burnout continuum. Shortly after she lost her 47 year old brother to suicide. With such a stark reminder of how short life can be, Cordelia decided to take her career and her life in a new direction. Cordelia now works with achievers who are feeling trapped, restricted or compromised in some way to excel, become extraordinary and create ever-increasing levels of both health, wellbeing and external success. As a high-performance coach, her work is dedicated to helping people get their sparkle and their 'A game' back and achieve success whilst maintaining a healthy life and positive relationships. She now lives a nomadic life but plans to settle down in one of her favourite cities, Barcelona in the near future. I would like to dedicate this episode to the memory of Dr Peel's brother.
