Episode 47 - From Profit to Purpose
Episode 47 - From Profit to Purpose This episode was a global endeavour with Terri Soller dialling in from Sydney and Gaby Rajak and I in SA. Both guests are seasoned Organisational Development (OD) Practioners with whom we are currently piloting a new workshop for Coaches and OD Practioners. We discuss the changing role of the OD Practioner in the new world of work and why we can never go back to the pre-pandemic organisational structure. Disruption caused by Covid-19 has provided valuable opportunities for learning and leadership. But how do we make sure it is seen by organisations that way? Being visible in a remote workplace can be tricky, or has it even changed? We’ve shared what we’re hearing from our clients and coachees, and one theme coming out strongly is how businesses seem to have moved from profit to purpose with covid amplifying what already existed in our teams and organisations. Using deep curiosity to make sense of the change uncovers that we are all more resourceful than we know. The conversation was both reflective and forward looking, leaving me enthused and full of hope! During a time when your EI (Emotional Intelligence) is as important- if not more so important than your IQ, we sat down to better understand this with Dr Karina De Bruin who teaches and measures EI for a living. Although this is a competency that can be taught, it is by no means easy. Karina wishes that we would all stop calling these skills “soft” and understand how critical they are in all areas of our lives if we want to have flourishing relationships and ultimately successful careers. Turns out that the old fashion “manners” our parents drilled into us could be the very thing we need to integrate into the world of work. Episode 28 - My Father’s Coat
Episode 28 My Father’s Coat. In this episode we have a double treat in store not only do we have our multitalented guest Michael Charton, but Muitheri Wahome long-time friend of Omnicor, polymath compliments the conversation perfectly as our co-host Attending “My father’s coat” was a profound experience for me, I left both speechless and meaningfully engaged with my history, I am planning to take my children and highly recommend his show- especially South Africans. Michael is a South African hero, living his purpose with humility and commitment. Michael Charton completed his articles and left to work in the US in mergers and acquisitions before returning to South Africa. He then worked as a Financial Director in the media and advertising industry. It was here that his evolution from accountant to storyteller was crystalized. He resigned from his job as a financial director, in order to realise a decade-old idea: To transform the complex history of South Africa through the medium of a story: MY FATHER’S COAT. In the process he founded INHERIT SOUTH AFRICA, to reveal untold stories from the past for edutainment, understanding, and nation-building. Michael literally climbs into the shoes of five protagonists (Mzilikazi, Kruger, Rhodes, Smuts, and Mandela) and tells their respective, interlinked stories over a period of 200 years. The genius of his story is how – over a period of 90 compelling minutes – he introduces each of these characters in a way that lures you under their spell as he seemingly embraces their beliefs and biases. Our co-host Muitheri is a financial services professional with a deep interest in the history and lore of the investment industry in South (Southern) African industry. Her particular interest is in tracking the arc of history in order to be able to help facilitate the maturation of this transforming industry, by being informed by the past. The Solution Focussed Mindset
The Solution Focussed Mindset Episode 26 In this episode we had such fun hosting Dr Jacqui von Cziffra-Bergs, an Educational Psychologist from Johannesburg, South Africa and teaches Solution Focused Therapy to psychologists, social workers, counsellors, teachers and organisations. Jacqui started the Solution Focused Institute of South Africa which is a training organisation that aims to teach and promote world class training in Solution Focused Therapy. Dr Jacqui von Cziffra-Bergs was an associate professor at the University of Johannesburg and still teaches at universities across the country on a consultancy basis. She has lectured extensively on Solution Focused Therapy throughout South Africa and in the United States. Dr Jacqui has written four books, her latest being “Solution Focused Brief Therapy and clients managing trauma” for Oxford University Press. She has also currently released “Creative Solution Building across Southern Africa” that shares how Solution Focused therapy is being implemented in different contexts such as medical settings, school settings, community projects, organisations and universities. Dr Jacqui is married and has two young sons that keep her feet firmly on the ground. The value of this method is that focussing on what you want the solution to be as opposed to an emphasis on the problem, your time and focus is on developing action steps towards the solution and discovering the hero within your client.
