The relationship we have with our society - how we bank, where and how we receive and pay for healthcare, even our workday - is structured by no accident. It’s all a part of the American safety net, a system in desperate need of repair. But how can we rebuild our systems if we don’t know who first dreamed of a safety net, and why they fought tooth-and-nail to make that vision a reality?

We’re Jason and Yvonne Lee. Husband, wife, father, mother, actors, producers, seekers, educators, and explorers of identity. Lagralane Spirits is a delicious podcast where we invite you into our living room for a family spirit symposium, a real-talk meeting of the minds over reverent cocktails. Each week we examine an important topic related to identity that not only is about our own history and how we identify, but is also rooted in social issues, historical events and even a little genealogy. We get into some heavy stuff that often needs the light lift of a cocktail. Therefore, each episode includes a curated cocktail that we then share with a guest as we ask them their “Cocktail Confession” in relation to that episode’s topic. It’s a lot of fun! So, join us as we dive back in time to examine the legacy of our ancestors that have shaped the stories of our shared cultural history. By the way, you can find all of our original cocktail recipes and show notes on lagralanespirits.org. And as always, please enjoy responsibly!

The Black Is America podcast highlights little-known African American figures who helped write the story of America. Join us as we shed new light on lost chapters in our nation's history. Hear the amazing, inspiring accounts of black American inventors, heroes, scientists, entrepreneurs and so much more. In Season 1, we feature the stories of Lt. John Fox, Marian Anderson, Wendell Scott, Bessie Coleman, and more. In each episode, we examine the legacy of these great Americans. Learn how they paved the way for other exceptional African Americans and contributed to a continued tradition of excellence in the black community. While racism is a common theme, it is not the central theme. These stories focus instead on what black people have contributed in spite of it, and the impact of those contributions shows clearly that African American History is American History.

Persecution. Violence. War… Forced To Flee, the new podcast from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, tells the extraordinary stories of people who lived through some of the most tumultuous events of the past 70 years. The story of the mother who fled Vietnam by sea and fell into the hands of pirates, and of the orphaned schoolboy who found his calling thanks to a disposable camera. The story of the Venezuelan musicians who found hope with a new orchestra, and of the daughter of refugees who joined the rescue effort during Rwanda’s genocide. And stories of the many humanitarian workers who for seven decades have endeavoured to protect the forcibly displaced. Over seven episodes, we revisit some of the major emergencies of the post-war that have forced millions of people to leave their homes in search of safety and peace. We discover why they fled, what they endured, and what happened next. And as UNHCR and the 1951 Refugee Convention both mark their 70th year, we also look to the future and ask how the world must respond to record levels of forced human displacement.
