What Is “Widdershins”?
“Widdershins” means moving counterclockwise—a symbolic gesture of going against the norm. Lisa’s novel follows Robin McFarland, a widowed schoolteacher in Edinburgh, whose life turns upside down after the sudden loss of his wife. Struggling to raise three children while battling emotional and physical collapse, Robin finds little relief in conventional medicine. Eventually, he seeks out alternative therapies—opening the door to transformation.
Why Lisa Wrote the Book
Lisa’s inspiration for Widdershins stemmed from her own experiences with grief and frustration with conventional medical treatments for her children’s frequent infections. She began exploring homeopathy after noticing the side effects of antibiotics and eventually trained as a homeopath herself.
The novel is deeply personal, shaped by Lisa’s own grief and the healing she found in alternative approaches. She hopes the story will resonate with readers and help normalize seeking different paths to health.
Grief, Healing, and Homeopathy
Lisa discusses how grief is often misunderstood and under-supported in conventional medicine. She describes it as an overwhelming, all-consuming emotion that impacts everything—from confidence to physical health. She emphasizes that healing doesn’t come from reading a manual—it comes through experiencing art, music, and emotional connection.
In the novel, Robin’s healing process is subtle. He doesn’t realize at first that things are changing, but through alternative care and a quirky but wise nanny (who acts like a homeopathic remedy herself), he and his children begin to find balance.
Changing Perceptions Through Story
Mary and Lisa highlight how fiction can gently shift people’s perceptions about health and healing. Novels can reach people who may never have considered homeopathy or holistic therapies. Just as Mary herself discovered homeopathy through a series of novels, Lisa hopes her book opens minds to the idea that “there is another way.”
Homeopathy, Lifestyle, and Wider Influence
Lisa shares how once she embraced homeopathy, it had a ripple effect on her life. She took up yoga, meditation, and even sound healing. The mindset shift of thinking “Widdershins”—going a different way—brought more joy, creativity, and deeper connection to her world.
Widdershins is available worldwide through Amazon, receiving glowing five-star reviews. Lisa is currently working on new novels, each aiming to inspire readers to rethink their understanding of life, healing, and health.
