The BONUS Manager Intelligence Skill – Emotional Intelligence
- This is the ability to understand and recognize the emotions of yourself and others and to interpret those emotions and present a positive, beneficial response.
- Managers with strong Emotional Intelligence recognize their own emotions and those of others, creating safety, gaining team trust by thinking before speaking and acting rationally.
Key Words: Safe, Rational, Stable
Why is it so important to develop the skill of Emotional Intelligence?
- Managers strong in Emotional Intelligence are highly effective because they are trusted by others and are highly effective in communication.
- This understanding of one’s self is the #1 predictor of professional success and personal excellence.
The Highs and Lows of the Emotional Intelligence Skill
High: I am always learning and challenging myself and my team to grow in knowledge and understanding. I am a continuous improver.
Low: I am set in my ways. The way my team has done things is how we will continue to do things. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. I can struggle with change.
The Differences Between IQ and EQ
IQ is known as “Intelligence Quotient” and it's a measure of a person's relative intelligence. Emotional Quotient, also known as EQ, is the ability to identify and manage your emotions and the emotions of others.
