info_outlineHello and Welcome to today’s episode of Sangyan, where we explore topics that shape our society and impact our future. I’m your host, Sakshi, and in today’s episode, we’ll be discussing the important issue of school dropouts. We’ll break down what causes children to leave school, the consequences they face, and what we can do to help reduce dropout rates.
To kick things off, let’s first understand what we mean by school dropouts. Who are they, and why is this issue so important?
School dropouts are children who leave school before completing their education, either by dropping out permanently or failing to complete their grade. This doesn't just affect the person, but everyone in society. Resources like school buildings, teachers, and educational materials go to waste, and children miss out on opportunities for a brighter future. School dropouts limit their career options and contribute to long-term challenges like unemployment and poverty. It’s a cycle we need to break to ensure a better future for everyone.
In India, out of every 100 people aged 3-35 years, around 14 drop out of school in rural areas and 10 in urban areas. This shows the widespread issue of school dropouts in both places.
Now that we understand what school dropouts are, let’s take a deeper look at the factors that lead children to leave school prematurely. Stay tuned for the next episode where we’ll explore the various reasons behind school dropouts and the challenges children face in staying enrolled.
